DJI Neo Range Test

- In this video I am performing a range test of the DJI Neo. The DJI Neo uses the 04 transmission system when used with one of the compatible controllers it has a range of 10 km in ideal conditions. When flying with it connected to your phone only it is using Wi-Fi and the range will be limited. The main limiting factor for range with the DJI Neo will be the battery but as demonstrated in this video you can still achieve a reasonable distance. How far can the DJI Neo fly is a common question I have been asked on my channel.

Finally someone made a range test!
I’m really impressed with how far this tiny drone can go. I am surprised how many people are complaining about the lack of capability.
Not to bad for such a small drone. Thanks for doing the test.
Thanks!
Thank you very much. I really appreciate the support. 😊
The people complaining about video footage thought that they bought a professional drone for $200. That’s just silly, people need to manage their expectations.
Indeed.
I have had mine for a week and love it. I ordered the RC-3N controller. I can't wait to get it and really start flying this drone. Thanks for this video.
I’m glad you enjoyed it
Just got my controller game changer
Nice to see someone do a range test. Definitely need to do again with clear line of site. As you mentioned,, trees are really bad for signal strength. Climbing to altitude uses a lot of battery so having a clear line of site may not require you to climb so high for a good signal.
If the DJI goggles weren't so expensive I would consider getting a Neo. Flying it with a normal controller like this I think the Mini 3/4 is still a better choice
Yes but three times more expensive
Dji googles + neo combo = near avata 2.. better buy avata , n next mont or 2 month later add neo..
Neo flight time really short 10min then back..(battery around 10 % auto rth)
Thanks for sharing your tech!
This is why I want this drone but with the fly more combo (which is way harder to get). To be able to fly it far away is one of the main reasons I want it
You can get mini 2 than?
I mean you can get the drone now and it works with out even a smart phone or PC... something that is extremely rare for a device in the modern day... and just connect the remote letter when you can afford it or it goes on sale...
Thanks finally a range test
Got mine today and first flew it indoors and was surprised that the noise level was fine, looking forward to testing it outdoors here tomorrow, I’m based in the UK. I’ve ordered the remote as I think it gives you far more flexibility…
Can you please tell me if you need a licence to fly this outdoors? I'm in London
A little disappointed, i was hoping to see a demo of the maximum range in wifi connection with the smartphone. Not a single youtuber has made a demo, and i have really spent hours searching. I know it is about 30 to 50 meters in theory but in practice i would like to see how the camera angle looks like up there.
I have the mini 1 with a camera fov angle extremely different (70-ish degrees?) so there’s no way for me to really understand the angle of this 120-ish degree camera angle at 30-50m
I can definitely do a video like that
@airphotography yes please do a WiFi range test. Thanks
At most 50m
DJI Neo is software locked to H:30m D:50m in WiFi mode.
I've never owned a drone before, but this would definitely be a fun to use drone for quick content creation. DJI are knocking it out the park over and over. Amazing.
I watched another YT vid with it in follow mode and its AI Hazard Avoidance was amazing. It followed him through a wooded path dodging every branch and twig.
I'm not sure it has any AI obstacle avoidance (I've seen plenty of crashes). But it does seem to follow the exact path of whoever it is following...so for follow me videos from behind, it will likely always be good as long as the person isn't pushing through branches or whatever else
Remarkable thanks for testing this.
Great test and video quality is ALOT better when you turn down the sharpness to -1 or even -2
can i do that on the fly app with the phone only or autonomous?
@@bsdgffishtuna5186 i dont think you have the option to turn down sharpness in auto im pretty sure you need to use the app on phone but i think it makes a huge difference
Which is funny as any video can easly be ruined by turning bthe sharpness up regardless of cost or it even being a phycal device... Video game photo modes also let you ruin your shcreenn shits and records with sharpness if you want... Kinda odd the sharpness setting is buried and is set so high to begin with...
Thanks for sharing. Liked this incredible little drone.
Thankyou for sharing this bro, im watching from Malaysia 🇲🇾
Thanks for watching!
I would be visiting Malaysia in December. May I know where we can buy hover x1 pro in Kuala Lumpur?
Their site says I can buy from Malaysia but didn't mention location or dealer.
Thanks Shawn. I. See negative feedback here but thanks for sharing this. I watch your channel often.
I’m enjoying mine. I fly it FPV and it’s a blast, today I got 13mins flying 75% sport mode and 25%manual. BTW, who’s the skinny guy on camera? Good on you bud.
Just wondering if the range still applies when using the RC-N3 or does it change ?
I bought the DJI Neo, but yesterday night after checking the individual price of the battery and controller, this morning returned the Neo to Amazon and bought a combo from Ontario from Vancouver to save PST(36 dollars). I did not use a drone before, but I know about it and saw it in the local shops a long time ago. after getting the combo(in 3-4 days) , I have to practice it on the sea beach of Vancouver or in the central park.
Will I be able to use a 2nd hand DJI RC 2? I mean, will I have any issues connecting it with my account/drone?
Shawn, Given the location you flew from, I agree that was great result! Thanks
Great video... and you sound like a fellow Maritimer... getting my Neo soon just waiting for a possible Black Friday deal.
It's phenomenal for what you pay... you did not misspeak.
Indeed
Not bad for a beginner drone like the Neo. Nice testing Shawn, and thanks for sharing.
forget the range test you look amazing! such a transition :)
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that. 😊
Nice video I was waiting for a range test I like that the test was not in the middle of no where!! I give this video 5 thumbs 👍
Thank you very much. I appreciate that.
I'm enjoying the neo as my first drone. I ended up ordering a controller because the range of the WiFi wasn't far enough. I've still spent less than I would have if I bought the fly more combo though.
Finally a range test. I did search for a range test video yesterday with the filter set to today's upload but this video did not appear...
Thanks, I really appreciate the videos you are able to share with us. I really am interested in the ability to set the drone to follow. But, before I order I flew my pro 3. Wow it does follow pretty good.
I’m looking forward to flying it! I do have the RC - N3 which I know I will be able to adjust the camera settings the way I want when it comes to sharpness, white balance, color, etc. thanks for the video. I was curious about the range.
Great vid. So about how high will it fly with wifi and using the iphone as controller?
Hello, the best amazing range test video I have ever seen. I would like the ask what is the max flight time you get untill now with Neo?
Good video, do you know how fast the dji neo can fallow you in mobile app control?
Love your vids just got the Neo
Awesome, how are you liking it so far?
@@AirPhotography not flown it yet
Nice day for a little range test - emphasis on little! Curious if ypu could cover more or less distance using Sport mode. Typically you just kill the battery faster as it's less efficient. Maybe try one at a more open location less trees to absorb signal!
Indeed, but the battery will still be the limiting factor. I could’ve maybe pushed it a couple hundred meters more.
Was that the osmo pocket 3 you were using to film yourself?
Great video
It is so incredible.😮❤
How does the rc2 controller go with the neo ?
Any advantages ?
Thank you Glen Australia 🇦🇺
how do you set the video on dji neo, because your video looks better than other reviewers
I haven’t done anything different. It’s just right off the camera all default. When I’m flying with a controller and the DJI Fly app, I do set my sharpness to -2.
Thank you, Sean.
You are very welcome
@@AirPhotography
AFAIK, this is the first max range test with RC on YT.
I have mini 3 pro and RC1, and am thinking about buying RC2 for my new Neo.
I am not a pro. I bought mini3 Pro because it is tiny and easy to fly.
Neo will replace my mini 3 pro for sure. I tested Neo with an app and it didn't fly that far, 40-50 m max, maybe. So I might get RC2 to use exclusively with my new Neo. I j😁need to fly around 200 - 300 m. max Just in case when I am on vacation, somewhere new.
Again, this video makes my day.
Thanks for the test, battery or not I doubt you'd get much more with any other drone when flying through trees !
I guess it’s also good signal strength test
It is very beautiful and amazing, is it available in Indian market
Awesome video brother
Glad you enjoyed
Hi Shawn: Thanks for this. Whats your best guess for noise comparison of Neo versus 2 other drones: original Avata, and the Mini 3 Pro? Thanks for any advice.
tks! very helpful info i was looking for : )
That’s great. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
do we need wifi when using it even have controller? and have you try night mode fly? thank you.
Thanks for the range test
i hope they make a NEO with more flying time
This test made me decide to buy this drone later. Is there a return to home function in the Fly App?
Yes, it has full return to home functionality with GPS just like other DJI drones. I have a video demonstrating that coming up soon as well.
C'est pas mal 👍 ce drone va bien se vendre et peut être le dji mini 4k va voir son prix à la baisse ?
Nice test but you were quick lucky. Return at 60% back at 32% - which means 40% battery for flying away, 28% for coming home. Seems to be some wind above. With wind going in the other direction and still returning at 60%, you'd have hardly been able to get back.
Please do a WiFi range test. Wonder what the drone does when loosing signal.
Well done video! Subscribed!
Thank you very much and welcome aboard
Great video, Is it possible to buy extra batteries for the drone?
Yes, I do believe so
Hi Shawn, I am in Ontario too and I did a range test recently and people are telling me that Canadians cannot fly beyond visual line of sight. I noticed in your video you said that we can when done safely. Do you have a source for that? Everything I find is telling me the opposite.
There’s no wording exactly that says you can. But the Canadian government looks at the sub 250 g drones differently. We don’t have to follow the same rules as drones above 250 g. The regulations just state that you must fly in in a safe manner and not put people or aircraft at risk kind of thing. So that means we don’t have to follow the traditional rules which means indeed beyond visual line of sight and higher than 120 m as long as you do it safe safely and not put anybody at risk. Definitely the larger drones must remain in visual line of sight.
On a sidenote, there’s a guy here on RUclips called Don drones on. He also has a Facebook group. He is a great resource for Canadian drone laws. He’s the one that makes the Canadian Drone Pilot app for where and where you can’t fly. If you have any questions definitely hit him up He’s very knowledgeable about all the regulations here in Canada.
@@AirPhotography Thank you for taking the time to answer that.
from 100 percent battery till its nearly empty, takes how long?
i got the neo as a first ever drone and im really impressed! i have the RC3 with the fly more combo, is that the same achievable distance?
Up
Shawn, not related , I don’t think…. But how do you use the DJI Mic2 transmitter with the Neo and RC 2 controller??
I just do an independent voice recording directly onto the mic 2. And then just sync it while editing.
Have nothing to say...wow❤
Nice video. Does Canada allow you to fly beyond visual range?
For sub 250. Drones over that weight must remain within visual line of site
great range test
but for me i want the quality with all that functionality
The wait goes on
thanks btw
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing. How is the range with phone and without a controller?
I’m gonna be doing a range test with a phone coming up hopefully this week or early next week
Nice! Thanks for testing it out. Wonder if you could have gone farther had you put it in Sport mode which has a max speed of 8m/s?
Usually for range test your best to do it in normal mode although you could fly faster and sport mode, it drains the battery a lot quicker, which is already the limiting factor. When I can find a location with a more open area that I can fly lower with no obstacles I might try again to see what the differences and if I can get further with the battery.
in what we are more interested is that how stable is the signal and live video when flying between trees and buildings or inside? Many of us dont want to fly 1 km away, just 1-2-300 meters, but the signal should be perfect in this range. Is it so?
what tripod are you using for that osmo pocket 3?
It’s actually the extension pole from DJI. I have a tripod attached to the bottom and a magnetic mount. Makes for a minimal and portable tripod solution.
As mentioned, RTH with mobile control is a must. No idea why this can’t be added?
Watching here from Brazil, imagining two batteries in parallel. It would be extra weight but I believe it would still have a positive result! How heavy is a battery like this?
They are extremely late. The whole drone only weighs 135 g with battery.
Good video! Please show more!
a decent range for that quality of video. must be good for cinematography.. im so afraid to fly a drone over 1km far
Everyday search neo flight time and range test...today your video make me happy haha..
Thank you for watching
Two of my buddies at work order the NEO. I’m anxious to see it. Great video.
That’s awesome. Thank you for watching. 😊
How is the noise of the NEO compared to the Mini 3 Pro?
Perhaps slightly louder? I haven’t done a side-by-side comparison yet.
Sir can we move the lens of the drone while it is in the air ???
Yes, indeed on both the RCN3 or RC2 you can use the scroll wheel on the left-hand side to adjust the pitch of the camera while flying
U don't have to calibration ea time?
Can we fly the drone this far without RC? Just using dji mobile app?
Hey thanks for the video. in the Neo FAQ i found the following. It would great if you could cover these ascpects in a video:
"What image stabilization technologies does DJI Neo support?
It supports RockSteady and HorizonBalancing.
When controlling Neo with your palm, with the DJI Fly app or with select accessories, only HorizonBalancing is supported and cannot be turned off.
For immersive flight, you can choose to enable RockSteady, HorizonBalancing, or turn off stabilization.
When flying via the DJI Fly app, the HorizonBalancing angle is ±30°. When controlling Neo with additional accessories, the HorizonBalancing angle is ±45°."
thank u man !
So I have the air3 and rc2
Can I buy the neo, and have BOTH drones paired to my controller?
Or do I need 2 rc2 controllers?
You can pair them to one controller. You just have to switch back-and-forth in the settings.
I got one its fun and easy to use😊
GREAT video. It’s nice to see how far the Neo can fly. Of course due to battery restraints, it can only go so far. I’m so glad I ordered one, I’m in the States, so hopefully get mine by Oct 10 ish.
I’m ok with the video quality of the Neo, I think it looks pretty good. Not Air 3 or Mini 3 Pro (my other 2 drones) quality, but pretty damned good for what it is and the price. Also I like the convenience of throwing it and the extra batteries in a backpack with my RC2, and my backpack will still have plenty of room.
P.S.- I hate you. I was wondering what camera you were using to film yourself, and it’s the Osmo Pocket 3. I thought the image quality looked great ! And now you’re gonna cost me more money !
All joking aside, great job .
Lol I was filming this video on the DJI pocket 3 I’ve been using it for the past year to fill out my outdoor stuff. When I’m at my desk filming, I use my iPhone. I like to keep it simple.
What kind of controller do you used
👍🏽 great info in video thanks.
Obrigado pelo vídeo
Why do they publish 10Km range yet is started struggling well under 1000km? How does it fare inside with multi level property with wall etc. would it lose connection?
It was the environment I was flying in. If I was in an open field, then it would’ve gotten much farther but I like to demonstrate in real world scenarios where people perhaps we’ll be flying to see what kind of strength they can get
What kind of tripod thing were you using to hold your Osmo pocket?
It’s actually the extension pole from DJI for their action cameras I attach a small tripod to the bottom. And I use magnetic adapter to attach the pocket 3. It makes for a wonderful, super portable tripod. Only downfall is it doesn’t work super well on really windy days
Could you record the distance test using the phone as a controller? I’m interested to see how high it can go with the phone as a controller
H:30m, D:50m software lock..
It's 135g would I need any kind of licence to fly outdoors in the UK?
Unfortunately, I’m Canadian so I’m not too familiar with the UK regulations for drones
what is the wifi range if i dont have remote?
The way the drone was traveling, thought it was going to Hawaii.
better safe than what now?
tbh for free drone from Dji - I was expecting you to risk further distance
What controller with the screen are you using ?
Rc 2 controller
what's the Maximum Altitude of neo with RC-N3 Remote Controller
Is there much of a noise difference with and without the prop guards?
Not really, no
One kilometer, so cool❤️
Question, can you use the rc2 to gly fpv mode without the goggles?
Unfortunately, not yet. I’m hoping they add that with a firmware update that would be really handy.
Yes finally
What remote control are you using?
I was using the DJIRC2 in this test
