    THAT WALL RIDE AT THE BEGINING WAS LEGENDARY!!! WOOOOOO!

  • @idmhead0160
    @idmhead0160 3 года назад +17

    That first wall ride was huge. Looked like he had to be at least a good 8 feet up. Love the tweaked out method as well. Guerrero had certain tricks that looked rad as hell. And the board varial or whatever that was at the end was sweet as well.

    A true street skater that did not have to throw in vert antics to win a contest. I Hope he did win it. This was so hype and truly some bad ass style. The flow between land and air was amazing - so damn smooth! I am pumped!

    I was to obsessed with Natas to recognize just how good Tommy G was back then. I think it was because Powell was seen as the brand name club...Plus they made those ridiculous BONITE decks at the time LOL didn't help gain street cred when your board turns to mush in a week. The thing about this run is that he wins with his style, not with his tricks. Kind of evil. Like Holmes vs. Hawk. No matter what new tricks Tony made up, Christian still demolished him with his style. Boy, am I showing my age. Nice to see. Last trick looked like a fs shove-it thing-a-ma-bob.

    • @Mr.Burton17
      @Mr.Burton17 9 лет назад +1

      Dude no your not showing your age trust me those were the golden ages of skating still better then today's style with these little tooth picks they ride. Tommy/natas/gonz/ Shawn shaffy from (shut) cab. My favz. Board I rode was definitely tommy/natas.

    • @crossbones80
      @crossbones80 9 лет назад +4

      Tommy, Jim Theibaud, Natas, Mick-E Reyes, Gonz, Sheffey--who incidentally came from not too far from where I am in Maryland right now--Holmes, and then the H-Street crew blew it up and it went underground like a Supernova into a Black Hole. Good times, great skaters, awesome tricks, and sweet lines. I do understand what Mullen did with the tech part, but why doe no one pull a Method off a kicker any more? Or a Judo? I remember Bill Danforth at the demo (circa 1986) throwing a MEAN 360 Judo off a launch ramp, landing it and rolling away, tattoos and all. That was good stuff!

    • @idmhead0160
      @idmhead0160 3 года назад

      LOL! The only thing that shows your age is calling it a "thing-a-ma-bob." All the new tricks are thing-a-ma-bobs as near as I can tell. Can't even tell what they are without watching them in slow motion.

    • @idmhead0160
      @idmhead0160 Месяц назад

      Yeah, all the kids warm up with 8 foot wall rides and airs. Then, they move on to doing a bunch of tired kickflip variations.

    • @montanaplease
      @montanaplease Месяц назад

      Yeah, now they would warm up with a 360 kick flip down 8 foot tall steps something that Tommy Guerrero couldn’t even Ollie down back in the day.

    Just think of how much style the skaters today could have if they instead weren’t so busy doing tricks like 360 kick flips to blunt slide down 12 stair hand rails.
    Tony Hawk should’ve concentrated more on his style like Christian has so he had instead of always inventing new tricks.
    I mean, I think the only trick that Christian has so ever invented was the Christ air, But he sure had that cool dude style specially with his shirt always tucked in like he had a mini cape on And he was Superman

    What was considered style is after he’s done with the trick he bends his legs a bunch.
    Tommy Guerrero at Best was an amature and nowhere no where near pro material for that day and age.

    • @augustvong7057
      @augustvong7057 10 месяцев назад +2

      That is one of the greatest wallrides ever recorded, in 40 years. He and Natas was probably the only ones doing lipslides and kickflips in contest runs at the time. Guerrero could skate vert and had the probably highest ollie japan to date.
      Despite the course being designed mostly for vert-specialists, Guerrero often placed high in them.
      Yes, from 1988 and onwards street skating became more technical. The video-skater emerged.
      But put them in the same room and Guerrero would win with speed and style.

      Tommy Guerrero on vert has me on the ground laughing.
      There is seriously five-year-olds today that are better on vert than he ever was and I am not exaggerating.
      Watch the animal chin movie and you will see how good he is on vert.
