2023 RAM TRX vs Ford Raptor | What Truck Is Better For $85,000?!

  • 👋 What do you think of the 2023 Dodge RAM TRX and the 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor trucks? These are the coolest off road focused pickup trucks on the market and offer so much fun! The RAM TRX has a massive 6.2L Supercharged V8 with over 700 HP and the Raptor EcoBoost packs a 3.5L Twin Turbo V6 with about 500 HP. These two trucks are pre-owned and are both listed around $85,000. So you can buy either truck at the same money. Now the Raptor R does exist, which would be a better competitior to the supercharged TRX, but those are way more expensive and hard to get. But the EcoBoost 2023 raptor looks amazing and I just love the styling! The TRX looks bigger with much wider fenders and looks awesome too! Both the TRX and Raptor have nice looking interiors with fantastic tech, but i can see a bit nicer materials in the TRX and it feels a bit more premium. The biggest difference is how they drive and sound. The V8 sounds amazing and packs so much power! It's awesome driving the TRX. You can tell the EcoBoost Raptor just doesn't feel the same with a V6. Suspension is a bit harder in the Raptor so it feels a bit more sporty and better in the turns. TRX is a bit softer feeling so it rides more luxurious than sporty. Overall I can't deny the V8 is better and more fun. I love the drivetrain in the TRX. 8 speed is also much better then the 10 speed. However I love the looks of the Raptor better and it's the OG off road truck! So I'm very torn!

I recently traded my Gen 2 Raptor for a TRX and though they share a lot of similarities. The TRX is in a league of its own. In my opinion, the best parts of the TRX are its instantaneous torque, buttery smooth transmission, the exhaust note and supercharger whine. Kudos to Ram for knocking it out of the park.

Here's when I drove my friends TRX and ripped on it. The thing is tho, I can't please everyone. If I do push the car just a tad, I'll get comments of people saying I'm abusing the car. And then they'll yell at the dealer and say I was joyriding and beating on their car. I can't win regardless of how I drive, so I'll just lightly push a car. Most cars I film, I've already driven before and had opportunities to rip on them. So I know what it feels like redlining both these trucks. So I don't need to do it in the video on dealer cars.
I literally did a review of my own Supra and a guy commented and said I'm destroying it because of how I drove it.. on my own car lol

I have a TRX but am a big Ford guy, had 4 other F series trucks and almost bought a raptor. One thing I’m surprised you didn’t talk about is the parking and this is one area that has made me think about getting a raptor. The TRX is a couple inches taller and several inches wider, not a huge deal but something I would consider living in the city. There are several parking garages where my ram cannot get into but a Raptor barely can. I get about 11mpg in the Trx and think the raptor would get 12-14 depending on how you drive it. Ram feels plusher and does ride better, TRX will likely hold its value better due to the death of the power train. Tough call, both sweet machines!

    • @Mr-Bogs

You mentioned you live in the city, was that 11 mpg mostly city driving? I've heard some people average 12-13 in their TRX if they commute on the highway. I know mpg's are gonna go be trash either way, just curious because the closer the MPG is to the Raptor, the easier it is to justify the V8 haha

@@BrosFOURRSpeed sure, but it's just not practical as a daily driver to a consumer especially in today's reality; you can argue that it's not for the average consumer but why do you think dodge is killing the v8 trx after 2024; it was like the viper; that car was an iconic muscle car yet it's discontinued because no one was really buying it due to it's impracticality. I currently have a TRX, and ive owned many F series trucks. Honestly, im really considering the V6 raptor. I really dont like the TRX. Its steering is heavy and fatiguing on long distance drives, and the 13-14 MPG is awful. Its not about the cost, simply the range on highway cruising. I hate having to fill up all the time. Im hoping the Raptor will be a bit more comfortable too. Not to mention, atleast longevity wise, Fords interiors are higher quality. Everything in my TRX feels cheap. Even when i jump in an XLT or Lariat Ford, i feel like the interiors are more solid than the build quality of the Ram.

Gotcha. Still not as nice as the fords step. Hardly useful for loading motorcycles like what I do with trucks.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed how are you going to use a step in the center of the tailgate to load a motorcycle when ramps would be there? You must be a ford fanboy. The bedstep for the dodge is more convenient because you can still use it with the tailgate up if you don’t want to step in the center of the tailgate.

@@landonsrt9587 I’ve never owned a ford lol, you simply put the ramp on either side of the step and while you push the bike up, you can use the step. It’s that easy lol

People complain about 10 speed is too much; you realize that you can limit how many gears you want to utilize? If you want only 6 or 8 gears you can set it to that.

@@BrosFOURRSpeed Once you shift to drive, (not manual drive) your shift knob has the + and - buttons; if you only want 4 gears to use, press the - button until you reach the desired amount of gear. You're welcome.

@@alexmar1382 Yeah true. But still, being used to manual cars and sports cars, 10 gears just feels like a lot when you go back and forth between auto and manual mode. Just personal preference.

I don't really know. I havent kept up with long term reliability of either of these trucks. I'm sure some owners would know more details. 10 Speed seems reliably from what I've heard at least
