It's not easy being a social worker. You gotta have high patience, empathy and kindness to want your charges to succeed. So these people are really heroes and they need so much help, from the government, businesses and the community.
As a member of the public, some were even told by the social worker to reside with their children and even coming over to their apartment asking who bought the t.v and why is your cupboard big in size. And the best part is asking unrelated issues such as childrens savings account no!!!. Now how does that sounds...
I agree with you to some extend. Social worker can ask about some of their assets at home to see how they explain it. Just tell the social work when you bought that TV. As for children's bank account i think this is too much. They can interview the children first to understand their situation, why they cannot help the parents, instead of checking people's bank account. Even if they know how much is in the account what are they going to do tell the children how to use the money and how much to give their parents?
Now to all senior citizen of Singapore. Do take note when you seek and asked for assistance from the social worker, two issues will pop up. 1, your silver spoon, 2, your cpf retirement payout...this are meant for their own used so what is they related towards the social worker...once they know all of this be prepared that they might or will turn down the amount of assistance...a fact is a fact...
Many people unfortunately fall through the cracks created by society itself. There's way too many rules & regulations to adhere to. No one size fits all. Help those in need as best as you can. Some rules just need to "waive". Rules should put in place to help not to hinder.

It's like this Safiah...when we say social workers we meant to be socialised with the elderly. Now numerous facts were not indicated. Some even took time as long as 8 weeks to assist and process. Secondly, I fully understand not all can be shown within 7 minutes obviously...but there isn't a need to placed an act of being damn helpful or goodness as to what they do.

When social service offices dig into the family hierarchy of an applicant for financial assistant to see if the family members are also poor and not able to help, then they help individuals, i think it is not a productive model of working. By enforcing that immediate family members chip in to help the individual, they are not helping to solve the problem. Social workers should review at the personal level of the applicant to find out why they are not able to help themselves. because some applicants are compulsive addicts, avid problem gamblers not uncovered yet. In such a situation you want the whole family to keep giving such people money, until they themselves also broke and also have to come to you for financial assistance? Contain the problem when it is small, don't smudge the problem all over the place and affect other people.

The aim is not welfare or charity, but whether the couple, individual or family is keen to uplift their own situation. Imagine they depend on charity their children they also don't want to put to school and they in turn also ask for financial assistance when they grow up it will be a vicious cycle.
So pleased, don't nor do not give false hope towards the elderly or those are really in need...such videos are giving false hope in believing assistance will be rendered...not all 100%...i am able to provide proofs and justified to those who were effected!!!.

The counselling sessions were mandated against the victims but in controversy any form of counselling shoulda be voluntary & friendly. Never forced or mandated in any country, any religion, any schools, any law legislation, any military, any hospital, any industry, any education around the world. Singoonpour is a amateur cuntry whereby chewingum & citizensalarysafekeepingbygov laws & other jizzlaws are formulated by "themselves" making them a clown in the eyes of politicians & people of the whole world.
