Schoenfeld was allowed to coach the next game after a New Jersey judge granted a temporary reprieve just 40 minutes before puck drop. Outraged, the officiating crew for that game walked out, and the NHL had to scramble to get replacement officials to start the game!
Schoenfeld should not have gotten that suspension. From what I can see, he made no physical contact with the referee. I notice his hands are down by his sides, not towards the ref. The ref went right to the wall to try to get him in trouble and he successfully did so.
I would love to see what suspensions these actions would have gotten in today's NHL. Taking a deliberate swing at a ref, connecting and only getting 10 games just seems nuts to me. You'd get half a season today.
I'm all for the refs/linesman and officials in any sport being inviolate, but ... There have been occasions where an official does something, like grab a player out of nowhere, which they wouldn't put up with and the player supposed to just take it. Viewing this scene with Van H, the announcer said that it was the second time that season that Van H had been swung at... again not condoning it in any way, but I'm curious. Two players taking a swing at a single ref? Did he maybe do something, or say something to provoke? In this one, it looks like he was just keeping the player from going after the opposing team, but we don't know what he (Van H) said to the player. It's just possible he was provoking them into the action. In any event, if that happened today, it wouldn't be 10 games. I don't think it would even be half a season. I'd place money on at least the rest of the season, if not an outright ban.
Hextall was a punk that couldn’t fight to save his life. All an act for the starving Philthy fans. All mouth zero action. 2:43 Loser Philthy announcers accusing Sandstrom of playing dead after he took a wicked crosscheck to the neck. 4:00 EMPTY SEATS AT MSG 5:13 Fat Pig Dives 5:55 Typical Messier impersonating Marty McSorley.
Man the NHL had so much more grit and tenacity and physicality back then, still even in the 90's and early 2000's too. I remember the Devils Rangers opening faceoff line brawl and that was like 2011. You'll never see stuff like that again. Fighting and enforcers are almost completely phased and ruled out of the game. I wouldn't be shocked to see the AHL and NHL go the way of European leagues and just ban checking and hitting next. Studies and stats have shown over 80% of head injuries such as concussions and CTE inducing problems are caused by hits and checks. Not fights. I expect the NFL to be flag football within a decade, and the NHL and AHL to be non-contact leagues by then too. All in the name of player safety. I wonder how many people will still watch it at that point.
why the fuck was Gardner? not sure how to spell his name even on the ice for the next faceoff after that stick to the face I know its the 80's but what the fuck
Id say Messier lost his temper after being felt up like a piece of meat at a deli, but with sticks and skates you cannot use those as weapons, they can seriously injure or kill. Drop the stick, drop the gloves and fight, dont use a weapon.
The animalistic response to a fight or an attempted murder just shows how embarassingly little we have advanced as a species for the past ten thousand years
CLASSIC: “Have another doughnut!!”
I like that the Dave Brown one the announcer says great actimg job when Sandstrom is clearly out on his feet
All an act, I'm sure hell be out skating twice as fast.
Shows replay: *cricket*
Announcer: "Acting School"
Replay: *Shows player getting internally decapitated by a crosscheck to the head*
Announcer: "..."
@@FusionAmoeba No bias in that announcer. That was a wicked crosscheck to the neck/face.

Good
Glad to see that you came back! Been in dire need of hockey content recently because of corona lmao. Looking forward to future videos!
I'm glad you're back dude I would love to see a Boston Bruin superseshin
Love that you went full 80's even in the video content
Oh Hextall
Say that thumbnail looks familiar
*14 minutes of pissed off goalies intensifies*
I love the vintage look in the intro and outro
This is awesome! Can you do a part 2?
I need more, this was awesome
5:10 lets be for real... his arm didn’t even touch the ref lol
I have a feeling the suspension was for the verbal stuff, but that line is so iconic. lol
No way, you're back?!
Ron hextall is nuts
Is there a reason hextall was so pissed
that time of the month
Hextal was always in the shit . Perfect way to start the video 😅
5:11 funny thing, they were, and still are good friends
It seems like Detroit Red Wings players play a long time in the NHL
I remember when the Red Wings were great..
See Hextall never hit or hurt anyone for no reason, he always had a reason to kill someone

My teams goalie is just like Ron Hextall when there’s a scrum in front of the net
I was the 100 like
7:37 I tell you what, he might have been incensed after the ref grabbed him and swinged him around like crazy trying to get at Hunter. SLAP 10 Games!
When there's a suspension, can the league decide if he'll get paid or not while suspended or is it for the team manager to decide?
Nice
Thanks for posting the video.
I'm not a fan of rioting, but if it does take place, I'd prefer that it was on the ice.
Can you do boarding penalties?
NHL video idea: Buzzer Beaters part 4
HAVE ANOTHER DONUT!!!
Hextall vs. Roy would have been cool lol
Anyone else see the two fans about to fight on the Hextall hit?
80s referee's seems like the thoughest guys. No protective gear skating around pushing angry bears of players apart.
Like the video
The Pierre turgeon getting cheap shotted by a capitals player?
It was a clean hit
That happened in 1993
The Real Jrü Gordon clean hit are u kidding?it was a blind side crosscheck after he scored
@@luigiant_3833 go check his other comments, he's a troll but yeah, it was in 93
Flyers announcers wow
No helmet is dumb, lol. I've seen too many things that would kill, or seriously injure somebody if they weren't wearing their helmet.
Hextall is the definition of a nut job goalie
Some crazy s***
wait not everyone had helmets in the 80s

I’m gone playing dead and the guy basically was decapitated
I want Cherry back now or I'll continue to spit on the NHL and it's associated networks.
Damn! These suspensions must've sucked

Acting school? Id like to see that announcer take that cross check to the head and not drop like a sack of potatoes.
So Hextall was almost as much of a clown as a player as he is as a GM
5:52 Messier did nothing wrong, Gradin dove
He swung his stick at him, even if it missed it's still attempting to injure him. Trust me, a hardwood stick to the head hurts.
Are you serious?

Non si vede un cazzo
Probabilmente perché il film è dal 80s ed HD non era ancora esistere...
4:01 Lemieux was faking.
Back when hockey was actually tough
