If there was no rule violated on the hit ( charging , boarding , elbowing, targeting to the head, etc ) then the hit should not be penalized. The way things are going in the NHL and AHL right now fighting is on pace to be gone within a decade ( Down nearly 65% from 7 years ago ). The 18-19 season also saw the FEWEST FIGHTS IN NHL HISTORY. And guess what folks?. Studies have shown hits and body checking cause over 70% of head injuries in the NHL. Meaning by the Department Of Player Safety's Logic they will be removing body checking and hitting after fighting and enforcement is phased out of the sport. They are trying to remove any play that could result in a head injury because they cause concussions and concussions lead to CTE. The NHL, AHL, and NFL are so obsessed with head injuries they are all ruining the physical aspects of their sports. It's sad and pathetic to watch happen. Especially as a NHL fan that has been watching for tens of years. The grit, tenacity and raw emotion and physicality from the 80's and 90's is long gone. I understand that. But even what was left over in the 2000's is being slowly stripped away. More and more penalties and rules to prevent fights. And nearly any fight that even manages to get started is ruined by the officials due to their new pussy helmet mandate. Forcing them to break up fights where a helmet comes off ( IE any good one ). The days of the Enforcer, The Goon, and The Code and Fights is nearly over folks. Only 16 players on the ice in 2018-2019 season without a visor.
