Found this gem whilst looking for info on how to change a battery on the slim 7. Actually I think i bought this notebook after watching your review of it many years ago! 1 TB ordered from the link. thanks for the superb content.
Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 15ITL05 (15inch, Intel, 8GB RAM). I confirm - both SSDs work. As for the 2280, I have a 2TB Kingston KC3000 (Pcie v4.0) - transfer speed of less than 7000 MB/S, the second SSD 2242 is 1 TB. (There is an older production date with PCIe v3.0, therefore the speed is only about 2000 MB/s). They both work at the same time, without problems. The Lenovo laptop thus gained a new level for working in the field.
Thanks for the great info! FYI - For anyone who might be interested: The Sabrent 1TB 2242 SSD right now is US$149. I found a Crucial 2TB 2280 SSD on Amazon for about the same price. The Lenovo pdf for the Slim 7 says up to 1TB SSD supported* but the asterisk says higher capacity storage may be possible. So I figured I'd try the Crucial. I cloned the OEM 512GB SSD to the Crucial 2TB and installed it in place of the OEM SSD and it works - full capacity. I got an ORICO NVMe external enclosure and used Macrium Reflect (free) to clone and MiniTool Partition to repartition (I may have been able to set the new partition in Macrium if I knew what i was doing :-) ) Point is I got 2TB instead of 1.5TB for the same price and I didn't have to mess with the Thunderbolt controllers. I also have the 512GB SSD which I may either sell or use it in the enclosure for large file transfers. The SSD speeds are about the same though I am more interested in capacity than speed. I'm guessing I could also install the Sabrent 1TB for 3TB total for around $300. For those in the US, MicroCenter has the Slim 7 on sale for $499 (i5, 8GB 512GB, touchscreen). Let me know if you have any questions :-)
Thank you so much for your review on the Huawei matebook 14. I bought one and I have no regrets. I got the Ryzen 5 8gb ram, and 256gb. I'm glad you enjoy it so much! I'm working on mine right now and comparing it actively to the Yoga Slim 7 Pro. Right now I have a hard time seeing anything beating the matebook. It's just a really complete machine!
More entertaining stuff! Glad to see it's not just me who loses screws, so thanks for not editing that out! You have very likely thought of this, but are you sure that both Thunderbolts still work? Can you use your eGPU on both?
Hello... Excellent content... I have a question. My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 714iil05, with an Intel Corei7 1065 and 16 DDR4 3200mh of RAM. For a few months now, when I start working in Windows, it just freezes. I had to restart it manually (by pressing the on/off button) for a few seconds. According to Lenovo and Microsoft, it could be a problem with Windows, but I don't think that's the case, because: 1- It happened to me two or three times when I was checking something on the BIOS and, 2- Even when I was using a light version of Linux installed on a USB. Following some advices, I checked the M.2 disk, and based on Hard Disk Sentinel and Crystal Disk Info, that M.2 disk has a 96% of positive health yet. I also cleaned up and heat fans and replaced the thermal paste on the CPU and de GPU, on which I must say I saw a little betterment on the performance, actually I was able to finish the installation of the original OS partitions from Lenovo (everytime that I tried it, the laptop just freezed). Another nice episode. It's nice that at least my Slim 7 will have an upgrade/expansion potential in the future. Too bad currently for me the PCIe 2242 SSD is still a bit too expensive and not that easy to find. The SATA versions are more readily available, but the speed would be much less, and I'm not sure if they are compatible in the first place.
There will be huge step up for Apple, but unfortunately everything is soldered into the motherboard so they push you to buy more and at the end you finished with 16 GB of ram and 1tb of ssd - then check the price...
Actually it can be easier than you think :) Just find electronics technician with good reflow station - he can replace RAM chips to higher capacity ones.
The double-sided SSD does _not_ fit in AMD model 82A200FFGE and I doubt it "fits" in other AMD models. Physically it is possible to put it into the slot. But when pushing it downwards to the screw hole, it touches some circuits on the main board. By applying certain force, it may be possible to push it completely down but this bends the card and adds some physical pressure to the components on the mainboard - risking both, the mainboard and the card. I sent the ssd back and try to find one single-sided fitting on that machine. Glad if anyone can recommend one that is actually available.
@@w2best With a little force, It can be put into the slot, so it can be installed into the laptop. But I'd not say it "fits" when it pushes other circuits downwards. I now installed a slightly thinner one and added an extra spacer beneath the screw. There's an older comment from OsZ hwo seems to have the same issue.
AMD Ryzen 7 4800u that I wanted to upgrade also based upon your video... I bought the 1TB Sabrent but during push down/assembly of the screw it gets blocked by the little Chip that is also visible at video position 5:50 roughly 10-15 mm right of the attaching boss where the tiny screw get in. So the SSD cannot be fully attached to the threaded cylinder as there is still ca 1.5mm slot between the boss and the SSD circuit board. I gonna build something in between to bridge it. Tested in that very slight angle already the notebook cover still attaches nicely and SSD work. Anyhow. One should be aware that it is not necessarily working without handcrafting it together. Thanks for the video anyway. Cheers!
@@w2best yep - i didn't think it would be an issue either after watching yours and another video that confirmed the double sided Sabrant could be handled inside the free slot. I didnt see it blocking in your video purely as the details are not clearly visible.
@@w2best yep, I saw in the video that the Intel based board doesn't have that small electronic element to block the ssd housing. That was only visible in the AMD built. Anyhow, mine works now. Cheers!

Great video! I was excited to upgrade my Lenovo Yoga 7i...but sadly, I was an idiot and assumed that the Yoga 7i and the Yoga Slim 7 (or Yoga Slim 7i) would be similar and have a 2nd NVME SSD slot. I tried this, but it did not work for me unfortunately. Followed the instructions to the letter. Maybe I did something wrong. I have the Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 with the AMD Ryzen 5, 4000 series. However, it was easy to return the drive to Amazon and get reimbursed.

Hi, great channel. Lenovo now commercializes the 7i series laptop in two versions at least here in Italy. Slim and non-slim. Only Intel. The difference basically is that the Intel evo platform support has introduced Thunderbolt 4 in the newest non slim series but has removed the HDMI port. What do you think about this trade-off? Are there other substantial differences to take into consideration?

@@w2best Hey there, thanks for your video. Like OP, I was wondering if you knew if there was a 2nd slot for a SSD on the Yoga 7i 15 (2 in 1) ? I can't find it anywhere... Thanks

No in most cases. There are a few 4700u SKUs that come with a 2242 ssd installed. Then you can fit a 980 in the second slot. But these are not common! Check the pref site for details!
Not in this form factor, but there is one sku that has the system ssd on a 2242 then you can add any 2280 ssd to it. It's usually the amd 4700u but you have to double check every serial number to get the right version.

Which is the non slim model? The Yoga 7i? That is a 2 in 1 so a very different device but I was looking at it in a store yesterday and think it looks great! Very similar form factor to Yoga Slim 7.
@@w2best I'm Sorry. Here in Italy we have 7i no yoga with HDMI and Thunderbolt 3 PD and Yoga 7i with no HDMI and with Thunderbolt 4 (Intel evo platform) which I think is one of the two featured in this video.
So you didnt even need to format the new ssd in the AMD model?
No it worked right away! So strange!!
@@w2best that's sick! I'll try get one myself. Do you recommend any for 256gb?
Hi W2Best, just wondering where the CMOS battery on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 & 7i is located? Assuming it has one, right?
I don't know I'm afraid
Is it possible to run a 2nd OS on the m.2 2242 slot? Sir if you could help me in this question. Thanks in advance
I guess it should be but I haven't tested.
Did you try doing a Raid 0? I have a Yoga Slim 7 AMD and I don't know whether to buy a 1 TB ssd or two 512 to do a Raid and make it work faster
No i don't want to mess with the Uber fast included ssd! Let me know if you get it to work!
So what do you think, what is better this lenovo or huawei matebook 14? Still same problem with huawei :/
It is a topic for a video soon! But imo the Huawei is amazing! :)
@@w2best after w weeks of using huawei I realy liked The screen , its jest great for daily work. But becouse od The problem that I explenied you in last video i will probably change it to Lenovo yoga. Hope i will not regret it.
It seems that the second SSD only supported the size 2242 and does not support the size 2280. Am I right?
That is true!
Could you make a video on how to add more storage to the acer nitro 5
I don't own that laptop and have no real intention to buy it. So I think you will have to look elsewhere for that :)
Hey loved your video.can i upgrade/add ssd in my yoga S7i pro Intel i5 11 gen ?
I don't think so but I'm not sure.
Hello Sir,
Do you happen to know how much memory I can upgrade to if possible on the 7i
Memory you have upgrade but storage, should work up to 2tb!
Is it possible to install Linux on the second SSD?
Hi, I have the AMD version with 256go. Does my computer have 2 slots available (the 2280 and the 2242) or is one the two slots already taken when you buy the computer ? I want to add another SSD, and I don't know if I should buy a 2280 or a 2242. Thanks
It's got an extra slot! Which one actually depends on the sku! You can check this either by opening the lid or by checking lenovo psref website with all the sku:s specs. It's a great upgrade indeed.
Always forgat to ask you regarding slim 7 hinch.. Is it plastic or metal (from the front and back as well) Would you be so kind and check it please..
All metal!
Is it possible to replace the m2 that comes from the factory with another of greater capacity, one of 1Tb for example?
For sure. There is a comment from yesterday where someone put a 2tb in there. :)
@@w2best Thanks for the information.
Thank you ao much!
imagine my surprise when i opeaned my laptop and found a smaller SSD installed and the larger one blank
That happens in some SKUs!
Hi, I'm from Chile and I have a yoga slim 7 14 ITL05 intel Evo i7.
I need to expand the storage but the additional m.2 2242 slot only supports up to 512gb. Which one do you recommend that is compatible with my laptop?
Does it actually or does it just say so? I believe that info is usually not correct.
@@w2best forget it
I liked it very much I have bought it after viewing your review but what about its RAM upgradability ??
Not upgradable at all in terms of RAM
@@w2best Man it's been a while since a Windows laptop has not had upgradable ram! I didn't figure this out with mine till it was way too late to return or exchange it. Oh well, it will do fine with 8gb of ram and dual boot Linux.
@@w2best could you show or tell me where the soldered ram is ? Want to replace it :)
Model: 14ITL5 Lenovo yoga 7i intel i5 11th gen version
I wanted to know if there is two m2 ssd slots or just one in this version.
Which is the model used in this video ?
7i has no extra ssd.
@@w2best if there is just one slot then how’s that I can do the upgrade of ssd ?
Hi, would it support only gen 3 or gen 4 pcie 2242 ssd?
I don't know this unfortunately
The 1TB version of the Sabrent is the 2242. The 2TB version is 2280. Will I have any problems if I go with the 2280?
Yes - one problem is that you can't fit it! :P
Jokes aside you should be able to find the 2 tb in 2242 as well. I can see it now when I click to amazon.
This will work on my 7i yoga?
the screw to hold the ssd comes in the laptop or with the ssd purchase?
It was in my laptop :)
@@w2best thanks my bro
Have you tried the 1 or 2T sizes?
I only tried the one in the video - 1tb
Where is the one left
Did you check this SSD works correctly when you actually use TB4 connection - I mean using real TB4 device not DP or USB 3.1.
In the video I didn't check it! Then afterwards I checked it and no - My eGPU doesn't work when the drive is on. If you disable the drive you can use thunderbolt. But then when I got the thunderbolt to work I could enable the drive again and have them both working! So not completely sure how it is - gotta make a folow up video when I tested it more. :)
Interesting good video like the accent but no more losing screws in worst carpet ever plus that plastic hinge breaking show just how easy it is to break something with any type of upgrading as they are so tightly engineered, Thanks
Man, I was researching these drives just this week because I heard it was DRAM less and wanted to see how it affected performance.
Really wanted to see a review of this drive in particular!
Btw, which region are you in? I wanted to ask you about a particular laptop.
I will make a review of the drive when i used it a bit more! I'm looking forward to it!
i ordered the same ssd and after installing it my main ssd wouldn't read and i was taken to a unable to find boot device screen. after removing it windows boots just as normal. i don't know what i should do :/
Hi, I am facing the same issue. Have you found solution?
@@hmyzak333 it turns out that i had a dead ssd. i returned my dead one and got a working one. everything then worked as expected! good luck.
@@SunnyAyyy thanks for reply, I have alread figured out, that I have SATA III drive, not nvme, so I hope it will be fixed when new drive arrives :-)
You think this might work for the Yoga 7 14ACN6
It will not! No extra slot there.
Battery life is same?
I assume that won't differ but time will tell. :)
Hello, unfortunately my attempt failed, my device has no second slot. I checked a dozen more yoga slim 7 models, none of them have two slots. Can you please tell me the model numbers of your two devices (AMD+Intel)? Again, thanks for the help.
Do you have a Yoga Slim 7? The 2nd slot is not in the Slim 7 Pro or Slim 7 Carbon. But both in the Yoga Slim 7 and Slim 7i.
I have a Yoga Slim 7 Pro 14. I decided to keep it even though it only has one M.2 slot. It works well and has a great OLED screen.@@w2best
@@jurgenholtschneider2152 Ah ok! Hope you can return the SSD. The pro has no slot and the regular slot is 2280. But the Oled version seems amazing! I think you got a great device!!
hi! I was wondering if you have the yoga slim 7i 2 in 1, if yes do you recommend it?
You mean yoga 7i? I haven't tried it yet! But i had the yoga 720 2 in 1. It was good but also a bit annoying. Too few ports for me at the time. Really missed both sd card slot and hdmi!
@@w2best Hey there, thanks for your video. Like OP, I was wondering if you knew if there was a 2nd slot for a SSD on the Yoga 7i 15 (2 in 1) ? I can't find it anywhere... Thanks
i was wondering the same thing, did you find out?
Will this work on my Yoga 7i 15ILT5 with the intel core i5?
No unfortunate yoga 7i doesn't have 2 slots for SSD.
Can I connect egpu to yoga slim 7 amd version?
No. You need thunderbolt and that's not in the Amd.
Where did you find the screw for the second SSD?
It was installed in it's slot!
On the carpet
It is missing a performance test.
I read somewhere else that this wouldn't apply to the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Version 14ITL05 82A30044 which I have got because it had only one SSD slot. Can you tell me if that is true? I would be glad to hear from you.
You can check that on Lenovo psref. From what i know all regular slim 7 has an extra slot.
will it fit the Samsung 980 SSD?
No in most cases. There are a few 4700u SKUs that come with a 2242 ssd installed. Then you can fit a 980 in the second slot. But these are not common! Check the pref site for details!
i have bitlocker on my lenovo laptop will this process still work for me can someone help me out many thanks :)
I don't know but i can't see why it wouldn't.
Hi, Thanks for the helpful video! But except Sabrent , is there any other good brand SSD brand (like samsung) for Lenovo yoga slim 7?
Not in this form factor, but there is one sku that has the system ssd on a 2242 then you can add any 2280 ssd to it. It's usually the amd 4700u but you have to double check every serial number to get the right version.
Can you add an extra 8GB RAM to the soldered 8GB? Thanks for the video. Remember to disconnect the battery cable before poking around.
No you can't. Ram is only soldered. I know I should but I'm always lazy :p
thanks
You're welcome!
Did you unplug battery? I killed my elitebook few years ago when i upgraded my ram.
No I'm always lazy with that. Maybe i should be more careful. :p
Is ram upgradable??
No :(
Вот такой вопрос , если это возможно
ноутбук тоже Lenovo yoga slim 7 14are05
ssd m2 2242 480 gb
Samsung.
я немного в этом не разбираюсь, пошарил немного в интернетах - прям конкретно такого случая не нашел
Если есть возможность - подскажите что да как .
I don't understand a word of this.

Good for you there's chapters. Watch the parts you want.
