Thanks so much from the UK here for the clear instructions for upgrading the HDDs, especially pointing out the placing of the audio ports making this an easy process 👍

Thank you so much for this! You're so calm, clear and informative. I hadn't even noticed the hard drive bracket that was in the bag with the manuals!
Edit: Had to come back just to praise you more, you are SO good at showing everything and not leaving anything out by accident just cause you're used to doing it. Bravo, honestly.
My laptop doesn't have bracket bro😢
In case you all had an HDD/SSD failing and want to buy another one and don't know which one (NVMe, SATA) or which length (2280, 2260...etc), I've been there, and had to learn it by myself. FOR M2 PORT... I upgraded this same model laptop with an SSD. This laptop has a M2 slot with a M Key port, which is compatible with both M2 SATA and M2 Nvme. As for the length, u can go with 2280, (or smaller as far as i know). Thought I can help you all, I was really confused before doing the upgrade, did some research, photo references, learnt a lil bit about the SSDs, HDDs and M2 ports... and there you go. Hopefully you will find this comment
Can i put ssd in hdd slot? If yes then whats the name ? Like nvme m2 ?
@@yourdad4903 the hdd slot is not a m2 slot. the m2 slot is the rectangular form of SSD (like the rams), the hdd slot is bigger and more squarish u can easily spot it on the mother board. If u a want an SSD in that HDD port, it has to be MSATA, as far as i know 2.5 inch. NOT M2
ah thank you, i was looking to see what length m.2 i could fit in here, thanks for being cool!
Thanks! Really helpful!
Would the Samsung 970 evo plus work then?
full respect for the man here because none of the shop that i sent this laptop for upgrades had declined me and I had to learn how to properly open/upgrade my laptop. So thanks alot man

In some other video is saw the guy, removing the plastic flap under the screen, just to open the back cover for ssd upgrade. Thanks for this tutorial, cause applying the plastic flap back again was a pain.
Really useful and detailed walkthrough. Managed to upgrade memory and SSD without sending it to the shop! Thank you
What ssd u used? Nvme? 2280? Which would fit in?
@@gifeight Samsung 750 evo. Any 2.5 inch drive will fit so you can go mechanical if you just want it to store stuff. I'm using this purely to game so had to be an ssd
@@shawnturner2829 i mean in the m2 slot is it nvme or sata? I still want to keep my 2.5 inch hdd, i want to use the m2 slot
@@gifeight Did you figure it out?
@@jebo54 yes, in case ure looking for an answer, since it has M key port, Sata AND NVME are both compatible. As length, u can go for 2280( as far as i know u can go for the smaller versions too 2260, 2242., not completely sure). This is for the m2 port..
Thank you so much for posting this video! I just added my SSHD in yesterday and I can’t tell you how glad I am that you brought up a lot of details.
In particular, it got a little bit scary propping open the case because the board was getting stuck to the ports! Luckily, you brought this up and said to open from the other side and, voila, it opened up quite easily.
not able to open it from backside, any tips?
Extremely informative. Thank you this helped me a lot 🙂
Thank you so much for the calm and clear instructions, I wouldn't have managed without this video.
Thank you for this video. I went through a lot of videos just to see the type and size of the hard drive that goes in that compartment and every other video they just point at it. Thank you again.
I like the laptop cushion pad and the automatic screw driver. This save so much time and more comfortable to watch with the cushion pad.
Cheers for the advice on the audio jack.
Thanks for the opening of this machine. While I am familiar with bench work for laptops. Not everyone feels comfortable with it and I like the way you help people in such a video. =D
....plus I almost forgot the screws on the 2.5" bracket until you mentioned it, so thanks for the reminder! lol
I know this comment is really late. I am just really thankful I found this video. This is like the only video that explains all of the upgrade abilities on my laptop.
The way you explained showcases your enthusiasm and dedication towards your work. Good job ♥️. God bless you 😇
i sadly lost the bracket so that sucks for me cause it will make it more difficult to add the hardrive
Perfect job! Perfect recording visual and great explanation!
Thank You so much for sharing your video.

Thank you so very much! I used a SG 1TB internal Xbox HD. It fixed itself w/out bios & I Formated it. 😽
FYI, I have exact same model, the Factory Seal is so sensitive u barley touch it, it breaks half way the seal. I just did it tonight. Getting ready to add 16 gig ram, has 8 gig now. Thanks for video!
Samee. So that means you can't get it fixed by the company since the factory seal is torn?

Too bad the customer didn't opt for a RAM upgrade cause it would really help to get dual channel memory config. But thanks for the video!
very informative video with detailed instructions, keep it up!
thanks pal, you helped me a lot
This laptop is fairly easy to mod. The only downside with laptops is. The graphics chip is on the motherboard so you can't upgrade those. However. This laptop has a lot of great reviews and from what I see. With the gtx 1650. This laptops graphics can be compared to xbox 1x and pspro. This would be a great buy for on the go gaming. Yes desktops are a lot better on performance but I can at least game on my downtime at work. Win win 🙌
thank you very much for this video that I follow to install an Samsung new generation 2TB 2,5' SSD in my GF63. This kind of help is very important !

When I took mine apart I pushed the battery disconnect button rather than unplugging the battery.
Yo i cant unplug the battery on mine, where's that button ur talking about?
Hi - Congratulations on a wonderful video! Loved it the way you explained. I have two further questions that popped out after watching your video. Will greatly appreciate if you can answer. Q1. I have an MSI GS63 laptop. Where to find which SSD and HDD models will fit in this computer? You used the Crucial ones, and I am keen on knowing right specs for my computer. Q2. Once you replaced the 128 GB SSD with 1TB SSD, how did you reinstall the software on 1TB? Can you please have a video on this? or send a link if you already have? Will greatly appreciate. Q3. What did you do with the SSD card that you took out? Thank you so very much!! Look forward to hearing from you.
Very helpful video, crystal clear explanation.
This was fantastic. I was considering to upgrade mine and was wondering if I could get the exact details of the SSD you have used for this machine please,
I will be delighted to see your email soon.
9:12 I feel so dumb because I was wondering why my hdd wasn't staying still. Had to use the piece you showed that came with the laptop specifically for the hdd to stay in place. Had my MSI laptop for over a year now and finally decided to look up what to do and came across your very informative video so thank you.
don't u know what is that piece name or how could I get it as i lost mine
Thanks a lot bro, really helpful information!

Hey, I had a question about an issue I gave when I tried to upgrade my msi gf63 ssd. When I put it in and try to start up my laptop, it seems to be stuck in this cycle where it keeps going to the biome then when I save and exit it says checking media then goes back to the biome. I tried to switch it from UEFI to Legacy but a similar issue occurs. Do you know any way to fix this?
You re-installed the OS, yes....?
Thanks for this video - I bought this laptop almost 2 years ago and I have no idea where the ssd mount it came with is...can you recommend some alternative solutions I can use instead of the official ssd mount?
Did you got a mount, i am searching for one
Very well explained. Thanks.
Upgrading the SSD and memory, simple components of the laptop, shouldn't be this hard. They could have easily made a cutout for people to access those components without having to open up the entire back of the laptop.
EDIT: The GF65, the one I have, is harder to open than the GF63 and also both the SSD/Memory are next to each other. This makes a good argument as to why they should have just made a cutout for access to those components
yeah if it's supposed to be upgraded they should make it easier

Hi, i need help, after i install nvme and additional ram, why my laptop keep booting into msi click bios, huhu. Thank you.
Great video. Thank you for the information.
what a usefull video. great video. keep it up
Helped a lot
Great video wish you was in the uk
Useful video :)
This isn't a MSI specific problem, but it annoys me greatly that system integrators are STILL specifying a CPU with dual channel memory controllers and fitting a single DIMM, thereby halving the available memory bandwidth. I can't accept cost as the biggest factor as the retail difference between 2*4GB and 1*8GB isn't much at all, so there is no doubt that it is considerably smaller for manufacturers.
1*8 is better than 2*4 for upgrades > 2*8
@@hazemhussein3424 Only if you can get a module identical to the factory fitted part, and even then there are some times issues.
been looking for this, thank you!!
i have the same models but in 9th generation intel
do you have the updated of the ram upgrade video ?
If you have the same model number, the upgrade process will be the same.

Hi Phil,
Thank you for a very helpful video that made my job easier. I also have an MSI laptop (GP75) which I am adding a SSD to, however I am struggling to find a 2.5" guide like the one you used. I can find tons of products that accommodate 2.5" to 3.5", but since there is very limited space in the laptop, I don't think these will work. Can you please let me know what guide you bought and where? I am in Canada, so would really appreciate if you do have any information about where I can purchase locally. Thank you so much!
did you not find it?
hello, where did you buy the support(brackets) to fix the hdd? I bought the hdd but it comes without support(brackets) to fix it and I can't use it. thank you (sorry for my english)
Thank you very much it was very useful 👍
Great video, thank you.
nice! Can u also do show instructions how to reapply thermal paste and clean the fans for GF63 8RC because I'm planning to do it also on my laptop but I'm scared I might destroy it
Thanks for the informative video, though it's worth mentioning the customer downgraded their hard drive speed by going from PCIE to SATA.
I think you had to install OS on the new M.2 SSD, right?
Thanks, that helped me a lot
Thanks Father 😊
I got mine from Wal mart on Thursday, on Thanksgiving day. I hope to get a new ssd and even upgrade an i5 to i7 if I can. And if it’s not expensive.
And since I don’t know how to open the computer and do what you’re doing and I’m worried I might mess it up, I’ll try to find someone who could do it.
Thanks a lot for the video
But the MX500 is a SATA SSD - why limit your performance when you can buy a 6x faster and more durable drive ? After all, the board supports nvme PCIE
Thanks so much sir i really appreciate it
Thanks for the great video, anyway it works
Where can we get that HDD bracket online?
Thank you! Great thanks 👍🤝
Thanks for the great video (:
This is awesome 😲
Your video is very useful, but I have a question, hopefully you can answer it, the laptop has a HDD, now, what I'm asking here, where is the bracket sold?
This helped a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!

How to set up the boot drive to ssd and install windows on it. Please make a video on this laptop only.
Very good video. Are those vinyl gloves?
For the 2.5 Inch SATA upgrade, was wondering if a SSD could be used instead of an HDD?
I can confirm a regular 2.5 inch SSD works just fine, just put in a 512 GB one myself, works just fine. Although for some reason, the holes for the SSD bracket are not lining up with the ones on the laptop's hull, it's off by half a millimeter or something, tried forcing the screws in, wouldn't budge. Hopefully the SSD won't jiggle too much.
Also, careful to anyone who is prying off the cover with something like a flathead screwdriver, I felt like I nearly stabbed a capacitor or something. Make sure to use a proper wedge tool, or something similar, like the one he is using. Unfortunately I don't have anything like that.
So sad to see GF63 series came with only single fan. And just bought 4 more extra external fan.
where can i find your shop in korea i want also upgrade may laptop msi, how much will it cost for the 1tb ssd and 2tb hhd?
