Eric is natural on the piano and I watch him everyday. He replied me with sweet message back few weeks ago as I have been going through painful illness. What a gentle, compassionate soul he is! Love him!
Eric is the sweetest, most peacefully enchanting pianist I have ever seen - mystical! Such a technically and lyrically beautiful performance! I, too, had tears in my eye at the end of his cadenza. ❤
@@Highinsight7 definitely. I am too.. I discovered him only few days ago after watching his Chopin competition final in 2015. He had me in tears with his marvelous work. My mom has been a piano teacher all her life n she loves him.
Beethoven's brilliant music comes ALIVE with every note from his long, slender fingers. My late husband and i watched him often together, and i will hopefully attend his concert if he ever visits Atlanta. My favorite version of #4 concerto is by Eric, hands down.
Insane! The genuine sensibility of the pianist, the bond between conductor and soloist. I could wish the tempo in the third movement slowed down a bit, but in all an outstanding and moving performance. Luckily tearing up doesn't inhibit the hearing sense. Thank you!
He may haven't won the Chopin international competition in Varsovia howewer he Love's competitions AND hes always searching for another to win he's a grat pianist
How is it that the first violin of the Hallé Orchestra doesn't rise before the finalist Eric Lu when he shakes his hand ? A huge blame to him !!! Impudent lad !
Perhaps he didn't want to show favoritism. It's called "being objective". He's neither one of the judges, nor one of the audience members; his job is simply to follow the conductor and accompany the soloists. He probably didn't stand for any of the other finalists either.
Wonderful and admirable considering how extremely difficult it had been composed. Of course there is the glorious version of Andras Schiff on his superior Bösendorfer piano who is at the same time the conductor as it was the good custom at Beethovenˋs time.
Какой восхитительный звук Эрик извлекает из рояля. Это чудо мастерства: его потрясающая интерпретация шедевра Бетховена! Звучание рояля завораживает своим блеском, силой, энергией, мощью вдохновения! Браво, Эрик! ❤🎉👌🙏🙏
I know Yunchan's Rach 3 from the Cliburn is all the rage right now, but this deserves just as much if not more hype. Lu is hands down one of the greatest of the young generation of pianists today, along with Liu, Malofeev, Shishkin, and Sunwoo.
I suggest you get a good pair of headphones, or earbuds (not using laptop or monitor speakers) and then listen again very carefully. I 100% guarantee that you will hear a subtle cough, one from a person who is clearly trying their best to hide it. It sounds like 'Ekhh Ekhhh' - two slight but certainly audible noises that sound exactly like a human coughing. The 15 other people who assumedly agree with me on this have also liked my post too. If you still can't hear it book in an audiologist appointment as you're certainly missing some hearing abilities. Ps . Thanks for dredging up a 3 year old post, i'd forgotten all about it! @@peterfreeman6677

I'm guessing the Leeds Competition is held somewhere in the UK. This piano has a distinctive Steinway sound with its staccato tone and distinctive treble . I think for Beethoven it would have been better w/ a Yamaha CFX with its longer sustain and stronger bass. I didn't pay much attention to Lu when he was at the Chopin competition but his playing here shows an impressive ability of the first order. This conductor and orchestra didn't properly accompany nor even is in sync w/ the pianist. The conductor who knows how to accompany soloists is Seiji Ozawa but he's retired.
The Leeds Competition is, in fact, held in Leeds. Most of the earlier stages were at the University, but the final stages were held at Leeds Town Hall.
It's too bad his name isn't spelled 'Liu" because then you could "read" it in the little keyboard symbol in the lower right corner. Anyone else see that?

his touch express very rich range of notes. and flow of melody so natural.
Maravilha de Concêrto n°4 de Beethoven, nas mãos e dedos mágicos do Pianista.
Il joue comme il respire sans aucun effort apparent. Très naturellement.... Éblouissant !!

Eric Lu's fingers gave life to Beethoven's music. A rare gift.

Artist is divine but do not forget the conductor n the Halle Orchestra. One of the best performances I've seen n heard.
The very first G major chord got my immediate attention. It was warm, dark, and complex. Just like the rest. Absolutely marvelous! Bravo!
Wow amazing. 😮😮😮
Phenomenal I really enjoyed the depth of emotion in your performance.

I've played and replayed that section and I hear no coughing. Either it's been digitally removed or you're imagining it.
