Labour didn’t overborrow it was the private sector that was borrowing way too much and had to be bailed out

People who don't understand basic Economy 101 talking absolute nonsense and everyone claps.... Did you know conservative governments have borrowed MORE than Labour both in absolute and on a Per Year basis? Nobody criticizes them for "overspending" or "borrowing too much money". That's because borrowing isn't necessarily bad. Debt can be leveraged, the whole system works on debt. If you don't like debt, you don't like Capitalism, and if that's the case, you should think about trying something else like, you know, Socialism, that manages to grow even when the rest of the world is in a Global Recession.

Brown should never have bailed out the too big fail banks, he should have let them die of their own cupidity and dishonesty, markets need to be properly regulated, with out regulation = financial disaster. Miliband was too timid to mention that the Bankers caused the economic meltdown.

Guy with glasses at 0:59 is an absolute melt, apparently according to him Gordon Brown selling all our gold put us in the financial crisis 😂😂 looking back at this is cringeworthy seeing as austerity has actually done nothing to reduce the deficit at all 😂

The bigger point is 'He sold gold to prop up social services'... Yeah? And? I'm sorry if you had a lot of money in gold mate, but I kinda value social services more as an asset. Not something I'd cut tbh (We've seen enough people die)

This is a historical moment: the point it became clear Labour was doomed at GE15, and from which followed the untrammeled Tory govt, the Brexit ref and its myriad negative consequences, then the May/Johnson calamity show that's polarised, debased and tried to shut down UK politics.
Labour's record was pretty solid: Brown internationally acknowledged as having avoided full global market meltdown with enormous consequences, *mild* overspending but nothing catastrophic and it did fund services (you can argue about "fix the roof", or whether it was investment to generate growth, but UK govt is not a household budget). Labour deregulated fin services too much, leaving us exposed... but guess which other party claimed it wasn't enough deregulation?
Meanwhile, 7 years down the line austerity is finally recognised both officially and in public as a political choice to cut the state, and in fact one that slowed recovery.
But Labour didn't have the prevailing narrative on their side, and news media did nothing to explain the reality. You can see Ed at 1.34 realising that he may have all the facts on his side, but the electorate have temporarily lost their senses and prefer the tale told by angry Mr But-Brown-Sold-the-Gold. Tragic

Ironic now that debt, borrowing and inflation are all higher during a Conservative administration than the Labour one.

He should have been prepared for what he is going to face. they had to face this question since it was the biggest factor that determined their country's economy during that tough time. It would have been better if he had accepted that they overspend and come up with their plans for how they are going to take their country forward. Peoples' confidence goes into shatters when a prospect (in this case Ed Miliband who lied) does not take up responsibility and accountability for their own doings.

Indeed. If so, he should have accepted it and let the public know the cause and action. Problem arises when you denies it.
