The feeling of Dallas was so alive in this, the music, the cinematography - all of it. I wish new Dallas had followed this lead. It just veered too far off the beaten path with the way they ruined the interior of Southfork, the drug cartels, the dark music.
I beg to differ. I watched Dallas, almost from beginning to end, and JR was as low down and "dark" as they came. Just because JR used colorful, comical language in his misdeeds, didn't make him any less dark. Where JR was incredibly entertaining and Larry Hagman gave an award winning performance every scene, JR Ewing was a nasty, lowdown SOB. He was nasty to colleagues and downright deplorable to his own family. I watched the new Dallas and I loved it. It was well written and Josh Henderson played the hell out of John Ross and he literally carried that show. I loved Josh Henderson's John Ross. Josh Henderson's John Ross was ruthless like Larry Hagman 's JR, but Josh/John Ross, was/is incredibly handsome and sexy, with a touch of compassion. And that's the way Josh played the part. Something that we couldn't really say about Larry's JR
@@oland637Agree but JRs character was ruined from 1987 onwards when they slowly took away the conniving and menace and made him toothless and almost comical. In the later original series people disrespected and spoke down to JR in a way they would never have dared in the early 80s. I was pleased that TNT made JR aggressive and villainous once more.
'Jock' would have become Super pissed! That piece of land Should have been originally sold to J.R.! Never mind the stupid pride for a change! The original Series first season had J.R. & Bobby' living on the ranch but in there own Condos within walking distance of there parents on 'Southfork'! 'Bobby' on the left & 'J.R. on the right & 'Gary' right behind them! And the pool was not next to the patio but towards the far back!
I must have missed something at some point. Ray sold his ranch to Carter mccay then Carter mccay sold ranch to Michele stevens, then i dont remember who Michele sold to after her and james didnt workout. So did Ray buy it back at some point? If so when.
Once again, Dallas has a character selling an asset they had previously sold. Ray sold his ranch to Carter McKay ten years earlier. Cliff had sold his share of Wentworth Tool & Dye to Katherine, only to reacquire it and use it for collateral with Jeremy Wendell.
woutch - Really? This was never explained or even mentioned. Ray sold his ranch (the land Jock and Ellie gave him) and moved to Europe. Unless he bought a "new" ranch - coincidentally adjacent to Southfork (otherwise, why would JR want to buy it?) - then he's referring to his original ranch - the one he SOLD!
@@redletter2008 People are forgetting in 1980 Ray built a little ranch house on the land that Jock gave him which he in Donna lived. He is a fine one to talk he had an affair with kirsten who miscarried his child and another woman who was pregant with his child .he told her to get rid of her baby his child she was carrying imagine how she felt the anger and bitterness and hatred
Can only guess McKay at some point sold the ranch back to Ray since McKay owned it only five years before when the series ended in 1991. That's the only thing that makes sense. Also seemed would been easy enough to have Clayton and Miss Ellie in this even for cameos. Both were still alive at the time. Principal said she was offered a part and almost considered it until she saw the script. Sue Ellen's hair was hideous looked so much better brown and longer. This entire thing was a huge dud. So many missed possibilities!
No What happened was April's sister bought that ranch from Mckay before Mckay set JR UP out of oil business back at the end. Ray probably bought the ranch from April's sister because James Beaumont James older son he didn't want live with her. That's when she also sold Ewing Oil in half to both Barnes and JR each for the price Delevaga paid for the whole thing.
Always wondered at that continuity error. At the end of the original series, Michelle Stevens owns Ray Krebbs' ranch. But then the Dallas TV movies, not to mention the reboot series, ignored so much of what had gone before. Why was there no mention of James Beaumont when J.R. died? No mention at all of April Stevens in the reboot series?
@@richardsimms4019 Served no purpose because James Beaumont left to be with his estranged wife and kid. Michelle Beaumont was told by him I DONT WANT YOU so what was her point to be there. Well April Stevens was dead anyway so the money she had became Beaumont so made sense that it would be Michelle Beaumont. If James Beaumont didn't want her what was her point to have that ranch next to Southfork. Perhaps they should have been more explicit just to reiterate but honestly if you followed this show well that's one thing that can be drawn without explanation. But given all the other errors made where they didn't put proper explanations especially in the new reboot in 2012 its a fair question to ask.
Very good points made, Rajesh. I recall James Beaumont going off with his estranged wife...well, fresher in the memory for me, as the whole series was given a rerun a few years back on UK tv :) Well, I think as Michelle Stevens was such a major character in her time on the show, some mention should have been made of her selling the ranch, but then such things are for diehards like ourselves I suppose. Just felt like airbrushing her and April (and James Beaumont), not to mention Vanessa(!) out of the show's history. And I do think the two tv movies should have been taken into account and acknowledged all this. A scene where Bobby visits April's grave in Paris would have been a nice touch...missed opportunity. Also an explanation as to Christopher and John Ross' complete face transplants :)
@@TheEwing69 At the end of Dallas, McKay sold his ranch to Michelle Stevens. Maybe Ray bought it back from Michelle in the intervening years? (More likely is the writers thought viewers would forget)

Devlin Adams - He actually inherited $10 million from Jock. Even bigger though was him inheriting 10% ownership of Ewing Oil. That’s where the real money was. When the company was sold in 1987, Ray made a fortune. Cliff was handed a check for $58 million for his five percent ownership, so Ray got well over $100 million for his share (it would have been more, but the Ewing’s had to pay a fine equal to 1/3 the value of the company).

Larry & Linda played younger characters then what they were. Larry played ten years younger J.R. (1941) and SE was about 6 or 7 years younger than Linda. Making Bobby, Ray and SE closer in age.
J.R. is awesome!!
Ray's hair was never than dark during the original series. 😁
Ray was fucking stud. He slept with Lucy, Pamela, Sue Ellen, Jenna, Donna.
It always got me how JR was very critical of Ray's family lineage, yet, when JR discovered James being his bastard child, he was welcoming of that son.
that's because james was his son. the rest didn't matter
@@danielcorreard3746 Very true!
He was hypocrite for sure.
Crazy Ray looks younger in this than the original run with his hair darker
Ray is not fooling anyone with that hair dye. He and SE look great. About time they get a security guy at the ranch to pace around.
it's sad they tried this reboot but JR died then barnes died and it all went to hell sad because it was a good show.
I would have accepted JR's offer if I had been Ray......
Way too proud
In this scene, Ray should have clobbered JR again.
By this time, Ray had already sold his ranch to Carter McKay during the original series run.
Clayton sold it mckay
@@grecosgreecedaz6026 Clayton sold RAY’s ranch to McKay. Last we saw Michele Stevens bought it, in the 1990-91 season. They ignored all that I guess for this movie.
@@TheEwing69 Yes that was a mistake in the movie. Michelle Stevens bought the ranch. If she'd subsequently sold it to Ray (I know Carter McKay had it before her) they should have mentioned that. And also mentioned Vanessa and James Beaumont :)
People seem to forget the one-night fling Ray and Sue Ellen had early in the series...
Everything that doesn't make sense can be written off as a Dream! 'Dallas' cornered that market!
I remember 👍🏽
Sue Ellen does not talk like she cares about other peoples problems, so that's a dissapointment for me on this little tape. Also Donna was my favorite character because of her caring, her accent and her instant likability and how real she was. Like every middle school kids mom you wanted to have. I wish she was there.
In the Dallas movies, Sue Ellen had no interest in being in the oil industry.
These two movies were more in tune to the original series than the reboot which changed too much IMO
new dallas was about john ross and christopher mostly with larry hagmon was not so well to be in many episodes
In the reboot series, the oil business is gone. Ewing oil should have been given to Christopher and John Ross to run.
That was so low of JR saying Ray wasn't a Ewing even though his father was Jock too
Well JR did always like sticking it to Ray that he's a bastard.
@Cecil Pierre Ray was one of Jock's few mistakes.
@Cecil Pierre Jr actually admits he was jealous of rays relationship to jock in a late season of the original Dallas series.
@Cecil Pierre he says it to john Ross when James first comes into the show and john Ross is feeling a bit left out. The 12 season of Dallas in 1990....
@Cecil Pierre I very much doubt it. There are no plans for a fourth season unfortunately. Plus James was a terrible character and never once mentioned in the 3 Dallas reboot seasons. Not even at Jr's,funeral or will Reading. I heard that bobby son lucas however was going to come into the series if it continued. Prob would had made his first appearance at Christopher funeral...plus Jr long lost daughter... But there was no plans for james
JR looks like old Bill Clinton
Rest in peace LARRY
I freakin love JR
F ing Jr 😀😃😄😁😆😅🤣😂
I hated the way Jr did Sue Ellen she was such a good woman
The feeling of Dallas was so alive in this, the music, the cinematography - all of it. I wish new Dallas had followed this lead. It just veered too far off the beaten path with the way they ruined the interior of Southfork, the drug cartels, the dark music.
Yeah everyone seems to want to make everything “dark”. So unimaginative. It’s been done to death.
That's why I never watched the new Dallas. Today's reboots need to keep the feeling of the old shows alive, but they don't know how to do that.
With the Dallas reboot, Ewing oil no longer exists. The oil game is over.
Ray stopped being a Ewing when he sold off a piece of South Fork. That was sacrilegious. Jock would be pissed.
Anyone remember when Gary gave up his Ewing shares and gave it to Lucy?
@@geoffreydy9739Yep 👍🏽
Who is the guy in the sunglasses that comes out with J.R?
bodyguard
Patrick Duffy turns 72 tomorrow
If Dallas were to stay true carter McKay sold Ray's property to James and Michelle.
That would have made more sense yet!
I must have missed something at some point. Ray sold his ranch to Carter mccay then Carter mccay sold ranch to Michele stevens, then i dont remember who Michele sold to after her and james didnt workout. So did Ray buy it back at some point? If so when.
I see Ray still getting himself in and out of trouble 😂
It's what I didn't like about Jr Ray was more of a man than he'll ever be or ever was or ever will be
Funny after years in Dallas ray has lost all his grey hair 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If Bobby wants to run the ranch instead of the oil business it’s fine with me
Bobby lost his desire to be in the Oil Business after the death of his 2nd wife April.
On the season premier 1986 to 87 season Ray says I bought this big house for us in which he later sold to McKay 2 years later. I always assumed they mean the little ranch house from 1980 to 1986.

Perhaps, in between the time of the finale in 1991 and 1998, Carter McKay left and Ray bought it back.
I liked the original series before the new characters but I always thought the wrote JR a little over-the-top evil
What JR said about Ray being illgitametchild is very nasty and hurtful thing to say . He is a fine one to talk he had an affair with kirsten who miscarried his child and another woman who was pregant with his child .he told her to get rid of her baby his child she was carrying imagine how she felt the anger and bitterness and hatred
That woman was 'Jeannie' lol!
Why would Ray be broke? He was given millions in Jock's will.
Tom Tagliente blew on bad investments. Barbara Bel Geddes did the same in real life.
@@TheEwing69 Thanks.
@@TheEwing69 Poor Barbara. Is that why she came back to the show?
Gary and Ray both lost over 100 million dollars!!!
So many missed possibilities!
in the episode before the last episode Michelle stevens owned it
No What happened was April's sister bought that ranch from Mckay before Mckay set JR UP out of oil business back at the end.
DALLAS WAS ON IN 98?????
It was a tv movie that was ignored in the revival…
How can Ray sell his ranch when he sold it to Carter McKay?
Sal Paradise I was wondering that too. Sold to McKay in September 1988
@@TheEwing69 At the end of Dallas, McKay sold his ranch to Michelle Stevens. Maybe Ray bought it back from Michelle in the intervening years? (More likely is the writers thought viewers would forget)

That was a different ranch.
