  • Today the big name players have been into the Wimbledon interview room, and Catherine, David and Matt are here to tell you all about it. There's chat about a Venus Williams scoop courtesy of David, Iga Swiatek's approach to improving on grass, Aryna Sabalenka's decision not to talk politics this tournament, how Ons Jabeur is feeling being back at Wimbledon after reaching the final, some (minor) shade from Coco Gauff towards Sofia Kenin, a very confident and very relaxed looking Novak Djokovic, how Andy Murray plans to use his experience this fortnight, and the players' response to questions about possible Saudi Arabian investment in tennis.

    Here’s Wickepedia on origins of rock paper scissors:
    The first known mention of the game was in the book Wuzazu [zh] by the Ming-dynasty writer Xie Zhaozhe [zh] (fl. c. 1600), who wrote that the game dated back to the time of the Han dynasty (206 BCE - 220 CE).[16]

    I think rock paper scissors is an imported thing from the US. Thats why, although its been around for a long time, it wasnt in common use in the UK for people of Davids (& my) generation

    I have been a tennis fan for 30+ years, and currently pay for a WTA subscription, and I will 100% stop that subscription and stop watching tennis if Saudi Arabia becomes a partner.
    If Billy Jean King thinks The WTA can work to influence Saudi Arabia’s extremely oppressive policies through this partnership, does she not realize the opposite also holds true - Saudi Arabia can just as easily have influence over the WTA’s policies.

    Good evening Tennis Podcast gang. Loving the set up and brilliant spot overlooking court 18 & centre court. Have a great Wimbledon all 👍
    I wonder what will be longer: Isner vs Mahut match on court 18 in 2010 or all the Tennis Podcasts of the first week combined including this one. 🤔

    You All three (Catrine, Matt, David) are the best in the game. No Challenges Remaining Podcast without Courtney Nguyen is not the same anymore (sad but true). The Tennis Podcast is really great. I do love tennis for 26 years (1997----......) so I saw a lot....

    The decision to ban athletes was moronic. Russia, China, Brazil etc never banned any US or UK athletes for attacking Iraq. Was Agassi asked about the invasion? Double standard.

    Money talks - why do people go on about human rights when this has been going on for decades - I went to Dubai in 2011 - people were dying in the heat during the day in construction -taxis were cheap- it was horrible for a single lady to go out .... nothing has changed

    Women have to make less at Wimbledon and any tournament that has 5 sets for men. Because they work less. Right now they are not making the same, they are making more money, cause they earn the same for less work.

  • @simoncooper3

    Would be great to see you guys discuss the female privilege in tennis at Wimbledon; that is, that they get the same prize money as men for less work (fewer sets). Any thoughts on this gross misjustice?

    • @xyzxxx33
      @xyzxxx33 Год назад

      What do you propose? Being paid per sets played? For example,If mens final will last 3 sets, and ladies also 3 sets should pay be equal? Or should we add other criterias?

    • @simoncooper3
      @simoncooper3 Год назад +1

      @@xyzxxx33If men and women both play 3 sets then of course pay should be equal. But if a man and a woman work a job and the man works for twice as long as a woman, the same pay there is unfair. Twice the pay would be fair, wouldn't it?

    Billie Jean King is the moral compass of tennis? Laughable, she thinks that female tennis players should have to compete against men.
