I being from Hawaii, IZ is our Michael Jackson or Elvis. Every time I hear him I get teary eyed, if not cry, and I get chicken skin. Chicken skin is what we call goose bumps. At my step sister funeral we played White Sandy Beach, which was her favorite song, sung by Bruddah IZ. He’s been gone for 25 years and he still my all time Hawaiian favorite. Like you stated, his voice has something that draws you in. Actually he touches your soul.
Being an Older listener of course I've heard Judy Garland's masterpiece but my husband and I both love this rendition even the fact he pieced "A Wonderful Life " in to it and entwined it, magical!!
'Really sweet medley. This cat was a much loved performer in Hawaii. Lots and lots of soul. I won't let these two versions fight for position - they're both just too nice. Once again, Angela, thanks for bringing something special our way.
Hi Angela, did you know that IZ (Israel) passed away in 1997 and in the video you saw there is a tribute to his legacy? At the end there are images of his funeral and the beautiful act of delivery of his ashes to the sea surrounded by his family, friends and admirers. God blessed us with her beautiful voice and her love. Now he sings to our Lord.
Aloha Angela Braddah is was magical to us Hawaiians that were born and raised listening to his music, what a blessing childhood in hawaii nei🤙🏾 mahalo and aloha braddah IZ for the wonderful music you made for Hawaii and the world! Sister you should do more of his music you will not be disappointed only more in love with such a big gentle giant of a man! His heart, soul, spirit and enery eas way bigger than what he look like! God knows Hawaiian's miss him sooooo much Rest In Love IZ you are dearly missed always ❤
This version always brings a tear to my eye. IZ's version seems more bittersweet, even with the video showing his funeral. My heart sinks whenever I hear this song, knowing he is no longer with us. There is not much in this world that can get this battle-hardened soldier to cry, this is one of them.
You hit the nail on the head about you wanting to just sit there and listen to him. For us locals in Hawaii he was and is a legend that will forever be in our hearts because of who and how he represented himself. Such a great talent and I also agree that it’s hard to pick from the 3 different version because they are such different styles and each artist made it their own but being from here I’m bias(IZ is my favorite).
Done in ONE TAKE! Just Isreal and his Ukulele. He asked to Come into a Studio in the Middle of the Night and Recorded it with No planned rehearsals and no Auto-tune. You should do Isreal's "Johnny Mahone". RIP, Isreal!
Israel sang with his heart, and shared it with everyone. I can't listen to this without crying and getting choked up. It is one of my favorites, and the residents of Earth should know it
new subscriber....you listen to a song and can separate lyrics, instrumentals, voice and empathy, all at once. I watched a few of your videos that really touched your heart. You are the audience a musician hopes to play for. sometimes empathy is a burden, yours is a gift. I have a feeling you did not watch the video but just listened. I am 76 and not from Hawaii but cant help but tear up when I watch....Izzy was amazing.
Angela, between the Jets and IZ, you’re exploring some Polynesian musical acts, and indirectly their contribution to America. Hawai’ians, Tongans, Samoans, Tahitians, Fijians. Beautiful cultures to match their beautiful islands and women. IZ was a great talent, gone too soon. The Jets are part of the Wolfgramm family from Tonga. Amazingly generous and loving people.
Different song from the Judy garland song covered by numerous traditional singers both female and male. This version is unique so I’m thumbs up for traditional version and this unique arrangement. Depends on my mood.
Wow. the look on my face when the other song came in. This is such a great mix. And I thought the original was good. thanks for reacting to this version.
You gave it your best shot. In Hawaiian we pronounce our W’s as V’s. Just Substitute those letters and you got it. Here though we just call him Brudda IZ. Haven’t listened to your reaction yet to the song but it’s the best version by far. 9 out of 10 people can’t be wrong. Aloha!
Israel and Eva Cassidy, both, do such equally, amazing renditions of this song! Highly recommend covering hers as well, they are both unique and sound nothing alike, and I love them both.
Thanks for mentioning Eva. Here is link to Somewhere Over the Rainbow ruclips.net/video/2rd8VktT8xY/видео.html and What a Wonderful World. ruclips.net/video/j1lISmNrH3c/видео.html
A gracious talent, a gracious man. If ever there was someone who deserved a long and happy life, it was IZ. I get emotional listening to him, and it saddens me to no end that he is no longer with us.
This is a medley of OVER THE RAINBOW and WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD. Which I love to listen to when I'm down. He also does covers of each these songs individually.
I've heard his version of "Over the Rainbow" many times with this video, but this is the first time I've heard this with blending "A Wonderful World" into it.
It’s really great and I like how he incorporated What a Wonderful world into this cover, however no one will ever top Judy Garlands original, however there are a few that have come close like Josh Groban and Eva Cassidy
Hi Angela! I know how much you like Peter Cetera. Give this one a listen. Think you might enjoy it...Peter Cetera & Crystal Bernard - I Wanna Take Forever Tonight
When IZ passed, he was laid in state to allow as many people to come & pay their respects... A right Only given to the Royal Family of Hawaii.. that was how much he was loved
Notable covers I suggest: All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix's rendition) Wild Thing (The Troggs rendition) Me and Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin rendition)
I would have bet money that this song was on the sound track of Rain Man, but I see it was Beyond the Blue Horizon by Lou Christie, which has somewhat of the same feel. Nevertheless, I've heard this song countless times before. And I see it was also in Finding Forrester and that was probably where I remember it from (an excellent movie IMO).
If you are a fan of the Garland version/arrangement I highly recommend listening to the song performed by Linda Eder. Live versions are terrific. Judy reincarnate.
I think if the three were to fight, the big guy would win. Song-wise I could not choose. 3 total essentials. Judy's was my very first favorite song, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
I find it hard to watch that video without shedding a tear. It's quite lovely how they worked his funeral into it. RIP.
I knew I was gonna shed tears… thru the whole song
I guarantee ya, Angela would’ve dropped a tear er 3 if she realized it was his funeral
Also, hints to pick up on...his guitar alone in the forest, the waves erasing his footprints...
@Penderyn.. Completely healthy people also die all the time, in many diff ways. Different strokes for different folks
I cry everytime
His ashes being poured into the ocean makes me cry every time.
RIP sir, hope you flew over the rainbow on your way home. ❤
An incredible cover. RIP Isreal.
So weird. Why replace the actual audio of the music video with the album version?

This was featured in "Fifty First Dates", a wonderful movie. No guns or violence but quite wonderful.
It was also featured in the credits for Meet Joe Black.
I think it was used in the death-scene of Dr. Mark Greene in the TV-show ER.
@Roger9252 you are correct season 8 episode 21 On The Beach
Ironically my wife and I discovered this right after our daughter passed away. So it is incredibly sweet and sour for us. It is beautiful

I may have this at my funeral if I decide to have one.
The voice and face of an angel...he brings both a tear and a smile-God bless him in eternity
Done in ONE TAKE! Just Isreal and his Ukulele. He asked to Come into a Studio in the Middle of the Night and Recorded it with No planned rehearsals and no Auto-tune.
You should do Isreal's "Johnny Mahone".
RIP, Isreal!
That’s Amazing!
Always love that story.
Why can't I LOVE them all??!
My nine-year-old granddaughter loves this song. She has known all the words since she was six. Thank you for playing it. Love your channel
Israel sang with his heart, and shared it with everyone. I can't listen to this without crying and getting choked up. It is one of my favorites, and the residents of Earth should know it
This one always gives me goosebumps. Always. Such a beautiful song and beautiful soul.
All three versions are awesome and unique. Love all three.

R.I.. GENTLE GIANT. UR VOICE WILL LIVE IN MY HEART. MY BROTHER. MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT
Story was he went into the studio and did it in one take. pure talent! we are still listening you beautiful man !
Beautiful
Love your comments and your hairstyle as well
Yes. this is wonderful. My favourite cover of Over The Rainbow is beautiful, and is by Eva Cassidy.
Yep, those were IZ's ashes they were dumping into the ocean. RIP IZ.
This version was also contained in the 2007 movie “Finding Forrester” with Rob Brown, Sean Connery, and Anna Paquin. Great flick.
I've never heard this "version"!!
Love this rendition. Nice commentary as well!
Beautiful blend of two songs what a talent! RIP
Beautiful. Two songs
beautiful
Excellent cover...different loved it......
Combo...With , What a wonderful world' ....❤
It's gonna be a bright bright bright bright sunshine A-day
He passed away at the early age of 38 in 1997.

My favorite song, and dad's is Rainbow Connectiion.
Nice upload, be well 👍✌️
Different song from the Judy garland song covered by numerous traditional singers both female and male. This version is unique so I’m thumbs up for traditional version and this unique arrangement. Depends on my mood.
This was played at my mothers funeral, being born and lived my young life my parents (Military) loved Hawaii. Thank you for this❤️🌹RIP IZZY
He went to a studio very late, 2:00ish, and recorded it in one take!
Aloha...
I believe first movie to feature it was the ending credits song for the movie Meet Joe Black.
Its a great song.
This may be the best of all your covers that you've done - and the ones you haven't yet !
Gotta agree, this is so great. 😊😊
Unbelievably beautiful voice, I love this cover so much.
Hi Ms. D., I love IZ's version.. ♠W.G.
I think its amazing he did it in one cut
Beautiful! Loved this! RIP
Great song RIP IZ
The video includes scenes from the celebration of his life and the spreading if his ashes in the ocean he loved. So very touching.
This is one of my favorite version and pieces of music period. RIP Iz.
It's amazing that he recorded his original version in one take at 3:00AM. Hawaiian Supaman!
I wonder how she got a copy of the DVD. I don't think the recording studio gets Hawaii, distribution beyond Hawaii.
It was wonderful Angela, love how they intertwined the two songs!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Wow. the look on my face when the other song came in. This is such a great mix. And I thought the original was good. thanks for reacting to this version.

I'm with you on this one, almost word for word! If only wishes could actually come true! Who knows, maybe the best is yet to come!
Oh yeah that's a pretty song pretty girl love it love it
RIP “IZ” you left us far too soon. Loved his funeral with everybody showing up to scatter his ashes into the Bay. “Mahalo Bruddah!”🤙🤙….. SanJoséBob

He was a sparkling jewel in this colorless ole world. Rest easy Israel
I can she clearly know the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in stops to goes in my way
A gracious talent, a gracious man. If ever there was someone who deserved a long and happy life, it was IZ. I get emotional listening to him, and it saddens me to no end that he is no longer with us.

Eva Cassidy's version is very good too.
Where do you weigh a pie? Somewhere over the rainbow
That's my 1st time hearing that version.🌷🙏 Check out the original video Somewhere over the Rainbow...
I've heard his version of "Over the Rainbow" many times with this video, but this is the first time I've heard this with blending "A Wonderful World" into it.
We miss & love you Braddah Iz. He was a big man with a big heart.
Angela , anything that puts a smile on your face is ok by me
I got one for the 2000's . NightWish - Phantom of the Opera live oct. 21, 2005. From End of an Era
Arguably one of the greatest "take overs" of a song, by a cover. His version is better than the original, by a lot.
love both
Somewhere Over The Rainbow and It's A Woderful World
You should check out Maoli also from Hawaii. Cover of Brian Adams Ever loved a women.
It’s really great and I like how he incorporated What a Wonderful world into this cover, however no one will ever top Judy Garlands original, however there are a few that have come close like Josh Groban and Eva Cassidy
IZ actually was singer and idol that took over the islands of Hawaii after Don Ho
Why choose just one. All three were gifts. All three gave us dreams to ponder - especially through their gifted voices.
RIP Bruddah IZ.
They actually thought about cutting that song from the movie because they felt it slowed it down!
My mother in Italy listen to this song all the day long...
I have this song on pandora great song
If y'all get a chance watch the movie "Finding Forrester" this plays and it uplifting and heartbreaking in the same ....
a great cover. another great cover of "Over The Rainbow" is a guitar version by Eric Clapton.
Very good version, but you really really need to listen to Eva Cassidy's version. Just awesome.
Notable covers I suggest:
All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix's rendition)
Wild Thing (The Troggs rendition)
Me and Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin rendition)
There are a thousand good versions, but this is just about the best
IZ was so sweet. 😊
a beautiful voice lost too early. you should listen to the one from the movie soundtrack from 50 First Dates.
Try Over the Rainbow by the Dimensions, please. Thank you.
Bruddah IZ, one of Hawaii's brightest stars. Such a talent!
It was sad his locals laid his ashes..RIP Mr. Israel.
R.I.P Iz ...🙏
Another amazing cover version: "Vera Lynn - Over the Rainbow"🌈🙂
If you are a fan of the Garland version/arrangement I highly recommend listening to the song performed by Linda Eder. Live versions are terrific. Judy reincarnate.
Rest in peace big guy
There is a YT version of Over the Rainbow by IZ that does not combine with A Wonderful World.
I think if the three were to fight, the big guy would win. Song-wise I could not choose. 3 total essentials.
Judy's was my very first favorite song, so it will always hold a special place in my heart.
