Iz's version gets me every time. My wife and I were stationed at Pearl Harbor for over 5 years and she loved this song. My Jennifer passed away almost 6 years ago to the day. My sister in law picked a nice rotation of appropriate songs at Jennifer's funeral to play before the service. She picked songs she thought embodied Jen. I didn't know what she picked but as I was walking around the various flower arrangements, I heard that ukulele play and absolutely lost it. This is a beautiful song by a beautiful soul and will always make me think of my beautiful wife. Thank you Beth.
@@fireeatersexpress8475 he was a special needs child, nonverbal, but his greatest joy was when I played songs for him on RUclips, this was his favorite song.
Bradda IZ was a great person and singer. I live on Oahu but never got to meet him but at least 4 friends of mine Met him . Every single one said he was so down to earth and positive. One friend said it was like talking to a friend . In Hawaii IZ is still missed.
My parents took our family to Hawaii when I was in 11th grade and we got to hear him in concert. After he performed he came out an mingled with the crowd. He was the nicest guy. The next year he died. When my parents told me, I cried. This song makes you feel at peace.
Several years ago I was sitting with 3 of my young grandchildren listening to music they liked. They requested a cartoon song that reminded me of this song from Iz. The next song I played was this very video. I did not know that Israel had died...when the funeral came up on the video I started crying. They never asked why. To this day (literally this day watching your video) tears come when the funeral is shown. What a beautiful song, voice, and person. Aloha, mahalo Iz!
I found this song shortly before the birth of my first child, and it has been her lullaby ever since. IZ’s warmth and love will always live on with those willing to share it.
This version always makes me emotional. I think its a combination of the message of the song, and knowing how loved he was by the people in his community.
This song is what I listen to when I need to smile with a good cry. I am a recording engineer, and the lore of this recording is that it was recorded on a 2-channel DAT machine. One track for Uke and one track for Izzy. I don't think any fancy mics were used. The lesson being performance ALWAYS trumps gear. This recording is P E R F E C T even though no $20K mics and preamps were used on it.
I've been waiting for you to react to this. I knew that it would make you simultaneously happy and sad (all the feels). I'm so glad you are helping to celebrate Iz!
I’ve watched many reactions to this beautoful song but I especially love yours. Thank you for giving us some insight into both the singer and the Hawaiian culture
Some voices just make your heart love...and your soul? aw...we found it again. Honestly, Beth, I love your vocal explanations...but, on this one...I don't care...I just savor his vocal beauty. Aloha, IZ...❤💔
Always brings tears. Dad was stationed there. I grew up surfing. IZ is so close to ocean folks hearts. His voice is water for the soul, just washing over you and healing the hurt.
This version always makes me cry!! It's not only beautiful but it was one of my uncles favorites. I remember listening to it with him numerous times when he was alive and now I can't help but shed tears each and every time I listen to it. Rest in paradise both Israel and my uncle Tony 9/18 Thank you Tio Tony for showing me how to appreciate great music and our awesome music sessions ❤ I miss you so much.
My mother who passed away on Christmas Day 2014 from Metastatic Colon Cancer at 83 loved this song, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World"! The song is featured at the end of the 2004 movie "50 First Dates" starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore! 😊
Oh, Beth.. the expressions on your face exemplify pretty much everyone's feelings about Isreal. You, like I probably wish I'd known him in some capacity. He was a lovely human being.
Such a beautiful rendition of a classic. I’ve always loved how he played with the melody and made it his own, while staying very true to the emotion of the original. And, of course, I’m a big fan of the simple arrangement.
Love his version. So beautiful. Brought the song into a new place. My wife and I play this often such a beautiful voice. Sad he’s no longer with us. 🎸🎸
Have known this song all my life, but this is without doubt the absolute best version. The first time I heard it I just fell in love with ths amazing voice❤
I may have commented on this review previously, but let me first say I always appreciate your thoughtful reviews, Beth. In this review, your facial expressions alone tell us what a touching and extraordinarily touching and timeless this recording is. Thank you.
Thanks, Beth.. the "big man" was amazing... wish I had known more of his work and that he had been with us longer.. what a voice! appreciate your reaction...
Beth, I truly enjoyed your reaction and heartfelt comments to this beautiful song. No matter how many times I hear Iz's version of this classic I simply enjoy it. Thanks again for the reaction Beth!❤
I remember when my daughter was a teenager and she had a playlist that she wanted to listen to in the car. So I let her. This song popped up, and I was blown away. I was like how have I not heard this before??? Then she said “ you’re not gonna like what I’m about to tell you…” I was so heartbroken when she told me. This song will always make me think of IZ
Aloha, Miss Beth!! Mahalo (thank you) for sharing your thoughts on our beloved Bruddah Iz. But beyond that, you added history and facts about hawaiian music, something no other youTuber has done. Great job, as usual!
G'day Beth, This version while being really simple is so Beautiful & sooooo emotional giving hope for better things, along with Kermit singing Rainbow Connection no matter how bad things seem these songs just make the world a better place 👨🏽🐸🥰
Lovely. My daughter's school used this song as the music for short DVDs given to each student in kindergarten and 1st grade. The visuals were candid photos of the class taken through the school year.
He's a national treasure in Hawaii. "Hawaii 78", "In this life", "kuu morning dew". He started with the Makaha Sons ot niihau. "I remember you". These are iconic songs in Hawaii folk lore. His brother also sung with them by passed a little earlier.
I first heard this driving to visit a friend in the mid/late 90s. One of those "Sunday morning easy listening" shows on classic rock stations. And from that moment, this has been the only version of the song for me.
This song has been with me for so long, it is just such a feel good song for me ! Dont know if you know MIKA crazy kelly, but that is one song i would LOVE to see you react to (: hands down best music reaction channel on youtube! Greetings from Finland (:
2011, I walked my daughter down the isle (an avenue of palms) on Rarotonga to this song. At the time the clip you played Beth had 14mil views. I see now it has over 1 4b views. IZ was such a gift from heaven, only leant to us for a short time, though his legacy will last for all time... So glad you found him..
I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it, probably 20-25 years ago. I had no idea who it was, but HAD to find out, and get more of them. I wound up with the album containing this version and it has been on 'heavy rotation' for me ever since. It always hits me waaay down deep and I usually 'dew up' in the corners of my eyes a little.
OMHG! The IZ!!!!!!!! I cry over this. Then there is his "Country Roads" cover that brings me into the movie Whisper of the Heart. I am so glad you are doing this. He has so much to explore! I have a question. I come and go on stations, so I apologize if this should be obvious to me. Have you ever done Matasyahu? Like Da Iz not normally my style of music but captures me deeply anyway. King Without a Crown (again not normally my style) I became obsessed with.
I love this version so much. I also love a cover of this version that was featured in the Scrubs TV series finale by The Blanks, aka Ted's in- show acapella group; makes me tear up every time

Stay strong.
So sorry brother. RIP Jennifer.
Literally one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. Brings tears to my eyes every time. A lovely song elevated by a beautiful voice.
I have seen too many grown people tear up just listening to this man to not understand that he was special.
I cry every time it was my mom’s favorite song. Perfect balance of hopefulness and sadness.
Bradda IZ was a great person and singer. I live on Oahu but never got to meet him but at least 4 friends of mine
Met him . Every single one said he was so down to earth and positive. One friend said it was like talking to a friend .
In Hawaii IZ is still missed.
"Somewhere over the rainbow" is such a beautiful song by itself....but this version...this version is beyond great. It's gold.
I can't hear this without crying. Rest in Peace Iz... you left the world with a wonderful gift
This was the favorite song of my special needs son, we played it at his funeral, it makes me cry every time
May he rest in peace and fly easy 🥺🥺🥺💜💜💜🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Our world without IZ is scary but his light shines and gives us hope

IZ has such an angelic voice. Thank you for reacting to such a beautiful song sung by a beautiful soul.
I love when people appreciate braddah IZ. I was fortunate and blessed to attend his last public performance.
Iz will always be remembered as a very special human being.
Very much missed around the globe.
sometimes we wake up in the middle of the night knowing there is something we just have to do. He actually did it. Thank you.
This song ALWAYS makes me teary eyed. It's SO beautiful! Thanks for listening to it.
I really enjoyed your explanations of his voice and of course the backstory of his life. IZ rendition will always be my favorite .
And it only took him 1 take, amazing. Rip big guy 🙏

His version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World can take me from mad to normal it’s just that calming.

This song, just amazing. And I am one of those that always thinks of the ER episode. It was also a big hit in Germany 15 years ago.

Always loved this version. I think the first time i heard it was on an episode of ER, when Dr. Green went to Hawai'i to die.
I live in Hawaii and have heard this song many, many times. It still brings tears to my eyes. Rest well Bruddah Iz.
