I am so sad Obeka isn't green. Of course I understand why, both from the lore and game balance perspective, but it still saddens me. My favorate creature in MTG to this day, is Primordial Hydra, and this would have been the perfect commander to use with it. But again, I absolutely understand why and agree that Obeka should not be green
@@connorl0204 Not sure if it would be a better commander in hydra tribal exactly, but it would be a far more powerful commander overall, and when talking about primordial hydra specifically. The reason obeka would be so overpowered in green is because of how incredibly easy it would be to boost her up to 20+ power with trample if you wanted to. Combine that with reds ability to grant you extra combat phases, that pretty just ends the game. Sure, primordial hydra and hydra's growth would work wonders in combination with that and likely take out players in one swoop, but it's not needed, just the current upkeep triggers people play with obeka would go completely off the rails with that many triggers.
The Desert Bloom Precon really surprised me with how good it is out of the box, and with minor improvements. Yuma is definitely my personal favorite new Commander from OTJ. And I never really took to any other Naya Commander before like I did with Yuma.
Good for you! Naya is one of my favorite color combinations, and I agree that this deck works quite well right out of the box. Especially since it includes Hazezon in the 99. The only *priority* upgrades I can think of are cards that let you play extra lands (e.g., Exploration). That and more draw power and ramp, because green.
Have a feeling Stella Lee is going to raise the prices of a lot cards over the next few months. I mean we already see it with cerulean wisps. Bet we see refocus and other cards go up some too
taii wakeen would be a ton of fun with all the cheap red "deal 1 damage to all opponents creatures" spells used in a "Ghyrson Starn, kelermorph deck". Turning "end the festivities" into a board wipe would make a lot of enemies
16:10 I believe the internal term is mana-washing or colour-washing, mana-washing can include colourless mana and snow mana so you can cast something like Arcum's Astrolabe or the Eldrazi that require colourless mana, , while colour-washing only allows you to spend mana as though it were mana of any colour. No idea why they haven't implemented this given how many of these cards we are getting now.
If anyone hasn't played the Gonti deck btw, it's well worth checking out. Easy to upgrade, plays really straight forward and fun. That said, Kellan and Obeka are just... so much damned fun to build.
I too want to build Riku, but the deck's strength- it can be prepared for almost anything- also leads to headaches running through all the combinations of modal spells in your head.
rakdos the muscle is better than your average mill deck, since a lot of decks run graveyard recursion to get their wincons back in the event of being milled, but very few decks have any exile recursion for cards that were exiled from your opponents effects, on top of that its card steal so you could accidentally run into some interesting combos that are otherwise impossible outside of wubrg decks
According to EDHREC, the site doesn't scrape decks that are 100% identical to precons. You have to - at least - change a single card for the deck to be scraped. I can neither confirm nor deny if this is true, but thought it might be worth mentioning regardless. This should curb the "precon-effect" to some extent, but - of course - it's still going to be quite strong in most cases.
I bought the Gonti precon as the art looked amazing and it has a different play style to what I'm used to. I'll play around with both Gonti and felix in the command zone, they won't be as powerful as Obeka and Stella though.
I brewed around the new Riku and let me tell you something: Turning Riku into a nice voltron commander is actually a very decent wincon in that deck (that or making a flying deck with Talrand and Murmuring Mystic, if you manage to draw them early). After you've taken care of hitting your land drops with his impulse draw and also got some nice card advantage this way, you'll eventually want to close out the game. Turns out, there aren't many modal spells that buff your team all that much, but there is a decent amount of double strike available. That means Riku can become quite lethal quite quickly if he remains in play.
@@shawn9613 Moxfield isn't loading for me right now, but there are a couple decent double-strike options that are modal spells. Twinferno, Raze the Effigy and Savage Beating come to mind. There are obviously also a decent amount of red spells that only grant double strike (or double a creature's power) without being modal spells. Those might not be worth running, though.
I think Olivia could've been great if it wasn't for +1/+1 counter shenanigans and instead give every outlaw all outlaw types. Turning each Warlock and Mercenary into Assassins, Pirates and Rogues could've been decent enough. After all old Mercenery creatures could then search for pirates, warlocks, assassins and pirates too. And those cards like partner Breeches or Fransico could trigger of damage done by Warlocks, assassins, mercenaries and rogues. Overall being a Maskwood Nexus only using the 5 outlaw types and affecting creatures of that type would've been a great face commander and allow stronger batching.
rules question: so for stella lee, i suppose she can tap to copy the 3rd spell of the turn right? it says " activate only if you've cast three or more..." so when i cast the 3rd spell, after i paid cost, it is counted as casted? do i have to wait for it to finish resolving before i can use her tap ability?

The community is getting predictable with what ends up being popular and this set was just full of sleeper commanders that by all rights should be more popular and I get that’s it just released but it’s baffling how underrated and overshadowed some legends are to cards like obeka when every deck is gonna look 90% the same she may has well of been a precon. Lilah is way more interesting then Stella to me because how obviously busted Stella is but I prefer open ended to on rails and Stella is in the club of busted precon legends. Kirri should have cared about saprolings I think it would have more legs then.
The fact that a common card nobody cared about until literally under a week ago (Cerulean Wisp) is now close to 10 dollars and out ot stock on most places speaks volumes of how important Stella Lee is: The popularity of the card will not reach the popularity of some of the others (At least for a while anyway: Markov now commands outrageous prices and he was a precon commander) but the fact that people are seeking out combos means it can potentially impact the cedh meta in a pretty big way and even more casual players will probably enjoy running spellslinger decks that are actually far easier to run than many other Spellslinger commanders and certainly far more usable than Zaffai and that nonsense deck from Strixhaven.
The power creep in this set is rediculous. Been playing against the same 3 new commanders over and over in MTGA and its annoying. However i have found my shelob deck works best against them. Cast shelob, cast one of my many fight spells and hit their commander with a 1/3 spider and boom i get their commander and anyother cards they play. Once i have their commanders ability with shelob they scoop pretty quick afterwards. But any other deck that isnt blue will have a hard time keeping up with these broken abilities
Ppl are lame; always the broken auto include commanders that are copy pasted from the edhrec top 50……jeez can yall learn to be unique & casual in edh or just go play 60 card competitive formats?

Better than gargos and zaxara? Both are actually hydras that give you insane advantage for playing hydras (and other x spells)

Working on a Taii Wakeen deck atm, she's pretty fun with all those red Defenders who tap to deal a damage to all opponents.

Obeka is amazing. I picked it up in a draft on Friday just cuz I couldn't resist. Just need it and Dragonmaster Outcast out and you pretty much win...
I started making an obeka once she was spoiled and im glad i did cause the prices of upkeep cards jumped up as well.

Those spells gain "Mana Shift (any type of mana may be used to cast this spell)."

I always refer to Flying and Lifelink as "Flightlink." Fits right in with "Flample," in my opinion.
