OMG! My first car was a 1961 Comet 2 door. I can’t believe that someone would preserve one of these!
Many years I bought one with reverse out of it in mint and I mean mint condition for 75.00 dollars. I went to a local salvage yard and bought a transmission for 35.00 dollars. My brother and I replaced it and I drove it for eight years and traded it in on a 1968 Ford Fairlane that was 895.00 dollars. Oh the days, miss them.
Just LUV that extra cool steering wheel convenience knob. My uncle had one on his 57-58 Pontiac Star Chief, with the translucent steering wheel! Go Uncle Frank! Chrome- plated too! Oh yeah!!;
They might look cool but they're dangerous as hell. Hit a rut or have a blow out on a front tire and that steering wheel whips out of your hands and your fingers will find out just how dangerous in a really big hurry.
It's little remembered today, but the original Comet -- sold through Lincoln-Mercury dealerships as a standalone model for two model years -- was intended from the start to be an Edsel; this explained its upmarket body design and trimmings, compared to the Ford Falcon upon which it was based.
They were in fact, intended to be part of the Edsel lineup but when Edsel disappeared, they were a stand alone "brand" until '62 when they were placed in the Mercury stable.
The '60s and '61s, which are distinctive by those slanted rear lights, were not actually Mercury products though many were sold through their dealer networks.
that car was mine 16 years ago, I was the second owner and I had it for almost 4 years in Minnesota and I had the collectible plates 307-577 which was the plate number in Minnesota, it was an amazing car with a two-speed automatic. I have some pics too, I painted the engine bulb covers and it has had the same pain since then. AMAZING CAR. I miss it.
What a steel!
Love it!!!
I learned to drive in a 1963 Ford Mercury Comet ❤
I like the Styling ❤
The Comet was the only compact car with fins.
Valients had fins.
This Car is a regular guest on the Andy Griffith show ; My UNC owned a couple of these back in the day.
Especially the first season.
Sharp little car.
Hello from Southern Brazil, thanks for the videos, I have been watching almost all them for a long time now, they are all very good. About this car, it's obiously a Falcon with a little different design and I gess it's a Canadian car, isn't? This name, Comet, was used there. It musst be a very good car to drive, and durable as well, just like the Falcons here in our neughbor country Argentina, that were made for 30 Years, until 1992. The engine is amazing. Greetings, have a good day.
No, it was not exclusive to Canada. You are thinking of the 1960 Frontenac, a retrimmed Falcon sold only in Canada.
@@jamesbosworth4191 Thank you for your answer, even after one year you still read comments, this is a kind of record. Best regards from Santa Catarina State, Southern Brazil.
@@brunosergioporto8881This is the first time I saw this post. Didn't notice that it was a year old
The Comet took the taillights from the 1960 Edsel and slanted them.
“Canted” them actually 😊
Oddly had the head lights separated farther apart like the 1960 Mercury's. Most four headlight cars they were side by side, closer.
It is as originally intended to be an Edsel!
A tach on an automatic 6 cylinder? LOL.
The 60 Comet technically wasn't a Mercury, it was intended to be an Edsel, but with the Edsel no more, it became simply Comet.
I like it for some reason but, 12,900??
Right?!? I just grabbed one for $3,000 😎
Besuty😊
I don't believe the 60 Falcon had Ford badging either. This was based on that car.
The engine was not blue either.
Even the falcon six was red up to 64. I think mercs were gold.
Edsels had green & white.
Yes it did, on the hubcaps.
That is a 5.000$ car.
Not a Merc.
I wish I could buy this for my son’s first car! My brothers and I all learned on and than owned our grandfather’s 1960 Comet!!! I wish we kept it but as a teen girl in the 80’s, I was so embarrassed by the hand-me down! Lol😂
