This song really is an absolute fucking masterpiece. On the recorded studio version, even seasoned professionals have a hard time following the drum sequence. And the synths simply are hypnotic.
I'm not even exaggerating, the In Rainbows from the basement performance is literally my favorite thing on the internet haha. And yeah, probably 30% of the views on this video are probably from me haha.
I don't know- my parents listened to Abba with me all the time as a child so I grew up hating it. Kids will automatically hate what their parents think is cool/good. I think a better option would be to lock all your Radiohead albums in a cupboard with a sign saying "Do not touch or listen", and let your kids inevitably break in and discover it themselves.
I have always looked at Kid A like a film. Kid A is the protagonist and we are set in a dystopian futuristic world where we are all robots made to see life with two colors in our heads and any thought that questions our current state makes us wonder what they are trying to say. In this world there is a ruling power that has ventriloquists and all we have are hands on sticks, assuming that we are the puppets made to function like this robot, Kid A. At the end of the track we join Kid A, our hero, into the new world, or as in screenplay terms, break into two as he invites us, "Come on, kids." This "new world" is represented well on the National Anthem where it is completely different from the world as it was before in the Act I, calm and peaceful but something ominously wrong, a hypnotic inducing world where we are brainwashed to believe that everything is ok. And when we hear the National Anthem, we realize things are not so. This is what I think the whole album Kid A is about. I will always analyze the lyrics and this album and hope to release a RUclips video going into detail what I think the Kid A universe is about.
Yep, I saw it in Switzerland and at all the others concert they uploaded on youtube! I thought that I was lucky to see this one live but it's one of their classic now :)
the song is actually about the possibility that this human being has already been created but portrays it in a dark way, as if the person or kid was taken away against their will to be experimented on. lines like "standing in the shadows at the end of my bed" either refer to a guilty feeling or even a kidnapper at the end of a literal bed, "rats and children follow me out of town" is referring to the Pied Piper, but is also comparing the kids to lab rats, being experimented on and cloned.theory
what's wrong with ppl who don't like Radiohead: they're not matured yet. give them 10 years. they'll realize how wrong they were when they reach the 20s or 30s... Radiohead fans today, take pride in the fact that we're all musically more matured. its just a matter of time... They havent become Radiohead fans... YET.
Every time i listen to this song i can't help but think about the Voyager 1 and 2 space crafts. Yes, i know it sounds crazy and messed up but it's just so eerily beautiful if that makes any sense. I always picture Voyager 1 just floating out in space.... strange

Radiohead just make me feel good, I love this version so much.
Amazing how a truly hermetic studio song can come alive. Radiohead and nobody else.
That's a really good adjective to describe this album "hermetic" haha, nice.
