@fantasty 6Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama becomes the first European to reach India via the Atlantic Ocean when he arrives at Calicut on the Malabar Coast. vasco Da Gama sailed from Lisbon, Portugal, in July 1497, rounded the Cape of Good Hope, and anchored at Malindi on the east coast of Africa. With the aid of an Indian merchant he met there, he then set off across the Indian Ocean. The Portuguese explorer was not greeted warmly by the Muslim merchants of Calicut, and in 1499 he had to fight his way out of the harbor on his return trip home. In 1502, he led a squadron of ships to Calicut to avenge the massacre of Portuguese explorers there and succeeded in subduing the inhabitants. In 1524, he was sent as viceroy to India, but he fell ill and died in Cochin.

Thank you *Jaby* for being honest.
I don't expect you to fully understand and appreciate *"Jallikattu"* because it's a complex film with many layers, nuances and some local cultural aspects embedded in it.
I loved *"Jallikattu"* because I love this type of storytelling and filmmaking.
I'm a big fan of *"Lijo Jose Pellissery"* from *Kolkata, Bengal* and I believe he and his films have the potential to win an Oscar for India.
I've watched all of his films.
*Jaby* after finishing *"Jallikattu"* watch these following films directed by *Lijo* Sir:-
    1) *Ee. Ma. Yau*
    2) *Angamaly Diaries*
    3) *Amen*
The thing is 90% of *Hindi, Tamil, Telugu* movies are made to entertain the masses that's why they attract many eyeballs hence these films earn big bucks at the Box Office and so many people suggest you guys these films.
On the other hand, 90% of the *Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi* films are made for the classy audience. One needs to have high level of intellect to decipher these masterpieces and that's why these films are not very popular and that's why you don't get many requests and views from anything related to these 3 film industries.
In India films from this 3 industries win the most number of National and International awards and nominations.
*Jaby* for the last 5 years you've mostly watched average masala films to satisfy your subscribers but if you want to satisfy your soul and if you are genuinely interested about learning different styles of filmmaking and witness different style of storytelling from Indian filmmakers then you should start watching more *Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi* films.
*Jaby* don't care about views all the time and watch top quality *Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese* films and you'll discover a different India and you'll learn a lot as a budding filmmaker...

Morning people.. 😇 Churuli means a spiral. Basically this will be similar to your Jallkattu experience if the title and trailer is any indication. They're going after a phantom.
About how it doesn't connect you to the story, I guess it's because the Malayalam movies especially the genre of movies that are slice of life are very subtle and layered. What they show might deeply resonate with the public because it's just that portrayed. And being not familiar with the situation or characters it might pull you out of the story.

    • @Hari-kx2er
      @Hari-kx2er 4 года назад +6

LJP movies can never be described as slice of life movies at all. Amen was movie in the category of magical realism. There was an element of fantasy in EeMaYu as well. Nayakan his first movie was a beautifully made movie which told a tale of vendetta in a very unusual way. Double Barrel was a comic book movie. Angamaly Diaries was kind of realistic but the making of that movie was truly unique (it was kind of an exception) . Churuli seems to be a tale of fantasy, allegory and supernatural.

Dear Jaby, Malayalam cinema is what I call as a real serious cinema industry, due respects to the rest of the industries...they do not make kiddish stuff, atleast majorly......Malayalam cinema is for serious cinephiles who really want to study cinema, who has the seriousness and maturity about dwelling into the subversions and the subtleness, the sublimeness of character definitions, and the various gradients that happen in human emotions which makes it a part of a realistic experience. Its grey and very deep in perspectives. This industry makes institutional stuff. You need to give a separate time and space to understand the products this industry churns out, for it is therapeutic in experience. Once you get a sense of appreciation with the stories and making they churn out, you can be sure that you have matured several notches up in your perception of how to look at cinema on a whole. Cut away bollywood for a month and start seeing only Malayalam, then let me assure you, your appreciation for art, beauty, human emotions and sensibilities would have crossed several marks higher. The calm serene, Buddha level :). You cannot see these movies through bollywood sensibilities and templates, which is why you are not able to connect or stay focused for longer periods. For any therapy to work its wonder on you, you would need to distance your present acclimatisation for sometime atleast, to step into the new zone. Drishyam especially is a master class of diverse elements that makes up the ensemble which defines the character of the protagonist. Again it was made for diverse audience, who can appreciate both mass and class level movies. The first one hour is a must for the movie to score 100% to make justice to what the director exactly intends to show. Wish you the best Jaby :)

  • @adithyanairs1891

I have been watching your reviews for some time and I feel the both of you (Achara included) have a bias towards finding an active human protagonist in a movie when in all likelihood, the movie may not even have one. Sometimes, the protagonist may be a message, a belief, or an 'object' like the suitcase in Pulp Fiction. When you are watching Jallikattu, do not try looking for a person to follow for the 'trying' will tamper with your experience and only increase your frustration. Follow the 'events' in the film. I personally believe every film should be seen that way. The reason you are not able to follow anyone in Jallikattu is because the director intended you to not do so. Looking forward to your review as usual. Peace out.

Yes, Achara.. you're very correct. That IS indeed the "intention" and undercurrent theme of most Malayalam movies of the past 5 years (at least). They just invite the viewer to "come along on an abrupt and unplanned journey" and hopefully be entertained.. in a profound way..

Malayalam cinema has grown over time rather than just staying and trying out the same formula. Malayalam Films in general are movies that deal with human emotions and family drama and "Drishyam" was one shiny example of how a normal middle-class family in Kerala had to undergo what they went. The sound scapes, the cinematography.. It's a director centric movie. With due respect your reaction and explanation didn't make much sense to me..
Quick tip : it's a ensemble cast you are not rooting for one particular character. It's a visual experience and understanding the whole narrative experience of it.. Don't overthink brother. You'll get it eventually. He is an amazing director. And I don't even speak Malayalam properly. He is a force to reckon with in the future.....
While on the other hand. Achara you explained it quite nice. Anyway... Jaby still needs some exposure how film making works and not predominantly looking at it from a cultural standpoint..
