    I've taken 1,500 mg of Niacin daily for over 30 years as prescribed by my healthcare providers. I get tested every so often, and have never had any problems with my liver enzymes. My understanding is that it becomes dangerous in amounts over 2,000 mg/day.

    Signs of liver toxicity:
    * Elevated liver enzymes
    * Jaundice
    * Nausea
    * Vomiting
    * Headache
    Doses with higher risk of liver damage:
    * >3-9 g nicotinic acid, but potentially as low as 750mg
    * >10 g nicotinamide/niacinomide, but potentially as low as 3g
    All forms of niacin have potential for liver toxicity, primarily be depleting methyl groups in the liver. You can avoid this by doing the following:
    * Match your nicotinic acid or nicotinamide/nicinomide dose 1:1 with TMG (trimethyglycine).
    * If taking nicotinic acid, take half the dose as glycine or 1.5x the dose of as collagen/gelatin. This is in a addition to TMG. So for 1,500 mg of nicotinic acid, you combine it with 1,500 mg of TMG and 750 mg of glycine (or 2,250 mg of collagen).
    * If taking NMN or NR, use 2:1 ratio of those forms to TMG- that means your TMG dose will be half the NMN or NR dose.

      @@idkijstmadethis4no yes the keto diet might work as new findings suggest schizophrenia is related to an issue with glucose metabolism. But there is also research showing schizophrenia is associated with methylation abnormalities, and more specifically overmethylation. Eating a lot of meat in this case as is often done in keto would be counterintuitive. The safest approach for schizophrenics would be to do keto while limiting meat/eggs and animal products in general and to get most their daily calories from vegetables. While also taking high dose niacinamide and zinc to over time lower methylation and decrease copper levels which has been shown to negatively affect impact the brain and is associated with anxiety and schizophrenia.

    I’m taking niacin. I started with 1000 mg. I up this by 1000 per month for 6 months. I now take 3,000 mg in the morning and 3,000 at lunch. I have taken this for 15 years. I had a cholesterol of 270. Before niacin, I was taking several different cholesterol medicines. I tried four different brands and they all drove my liver enzymes up. Now my cholesterol is 159 and my liver enzymes are perfect as a matter fact my complete blood work is perfect now but the main reason I started taking niacin clean the cholesterol in my veins, i take 6000 mg a day and I don’t feel any flush when I take it. As a matter fact, it even gives me a little energy and if all you’re looking to do is lower your cholesterol. What niacin did for me? Was it helped lower my blood pressure in conjunction with my blood pressure pills. With the blood pressure pills I was running about 130/90.. once I began the regimen about 18 months afterwards my blood pressure lowered to 110/70 and stayed there since. When I reach 65 they did the x-ray of the center part of my chest. Check the aorta for cholesterol buildup. The doctor was surprised to find that I had none. Of course I never told him how much niacin I was taking. I didn’t wanna freak him out. But I’m just one person and not a study. But I have 15 years worth of history. The other part of niacin is, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any of it has flush with it. Everything they sell now is flush free. They’ve done several study’s on niacin and it help the fatty liver to lower enzymes . This is diametrically opposed to what this guy is saying.. I take responsibility for the care of my body. I read a lot and make the best choices I can based on the amount of knowledge they put out there.. I never go on what one person says I always look for a consensus. I’m now 70. I can run now where I couldn’t 15 years ago. I am very active and have not gave up any of my favorite sports. The above number were at a weight of 208. In the past 3 months i started Ozempic. I’m now down to 160. I feel even better. As we age we have to take control over our body’s while still working with your family doctor. I just did my yearly checkup and my doctor was very impressed with where i am today. I still ride my dirt bikes and crotch rockets. I still bass fish, i scuba dive and now restore old cars. Just because we get old doesn’t mean you have to give up and go to a nursing home. Stay on top of your health and it will take care of you.

      Take niacinamide. Keep it at less than 3g. I wouldn't go over 2g just to be safe. Limit the amount of animal products you eat. The reason niacin works for schizophrenia is because it decreases methylation and absorbs methyl groups from your body. Schizophrenia has been associated with elevated methylation. Therefore limiting meat and animal products should also be a priority for schizophrenics since they contain extremely high amounts of methionine which is the main methyl donor in the body. Niacin lowers these methyl groups so you can tackle this by both taking niacin (niacinamide is much better for this), and also limiting the amount of methyl groups you get from your diet.
      This also applies to anyone who has anxiety/paranoia disorders for whom niacin worked to improve symptoms. You're most likely an overmethylator.

Ended up eating about 5-6 tablespoons (estimate about 20ish grams of niacin) full because the oatmeal “just wasn’t getting sweet enough”. Huge scare, my whole body did the usual flush but x100 more intense; candy apple red, jaw jittered for an hour, felt freezing, went into an irrational panic attack, crazy shit. Thank you for the updated information, and for clarifying the amount of TMG and glycine that should be taken when taking the nicotinic acid form of niacin.
    I tried taking NR for a few weeks, and felt horrible. Taking TMG along with it didn't help (though it did help me feel better quickly after I stopped the NR).
    I am, though, able to take plain old niacin (nicotinic acid). I don't have any problems with it... I feel fine, none of the symptoms that came up when taking NR. It completely controls my high triglycerides.
    To control triglycerides, and raise my HDL levels, I've been taking between 500 and mg of niacin a day, along with 200 mg of niacin-bound chromium and 1000 mg of TMG. I do experience skin flushing with niacin sometimes, but don't mind it.) After watching this video, I'll add 500 mg of glycine to the mix.

    Why would we want to control our cholesterol? Its governed by millions of years of evolution. Hdl to trigylerides is a better marker for heart disease, and its only damaged cholesterol that is problematic. Try not to damage it maybe. Try not to damage the arteries. Control our diet first. Fix metabolic syndrome. Plenty of LDL hyper responders with ZERO calcium deposits in the arteries. Even people with familial cholesterol problems die at the same rate as everyone else. It kind of throws the whole cholesterol theory out the window, much like the saturated fat theory. The thrombotic theory of arteriosclerosis fits much better. Damagrd arterial walls scab up and plaque up...causing blockages. The causes are vast. The science backs this up more than a mythical cholesterol number, which doesnt actually correlate to heart disease. Inflammation , glycation , chemical insults, pollution, stress , gum infections, leaky gut and LPS infiltration, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, seed oil consumption, suger consumption.. wars cause massive heart disease. ( stress) All these are more revelant to heart disease than the bogeyman of high cholesterol. Your post code correlates more accurately for heart disease than your cholesterol ever will. (It denotes, poverty, stress, food deserts) Cholesterol is the absolute weakest correlator to heart disease of over 40 or more factors. High cholesterol is associated with a LOWER mortality in aged populations. High cholesterol...Ldl, actually removes arterial plaque. If your cholesterol is too low...despite statins , you will still see plaque progression. Explain that? Cholesterol removes LPS from the blood. Cholesterol builds neuronal sheaths and cell membranes and countless hormones. Lower cholesterol ( from statins) causes dementia , alzheimers and type 2 diabetes). Forget about cholesterol. Just try go keep it undamaged. S healthy terrain is more important than a number. Just as many oeople die of heart attacjs with LOW cholesterol than with high. What up with that? Niacin can absolutely be beneficial to the body...but reducing cholesterol is the least of its benefits. More important is probably NAD production but it has multiple other benefits as do ALL the b vitamins. You can take heaps of niacin but if you are deficient in vit b 1 or vit b 12...good luck to you. Cholesterol is a white whale. For a theory to be correct it must be ABSOLUTELY correct, with no paradoxes or embarrassing circumstances where the theory doesnt fit. ( much like the saturated fat myth propounded by Ancel Keyes) It seemed sooo plausible....yet the full data says otherwise. Forget about cholesterol and make sure your arterial walls are healthy and you are not glycating or poisioning them. Focus on the terrain.

      You can be copper toxic AND copper deficient at the same time. Magnesium citrate can be bad for copper regulation, but other forms do not. I think it's the citrate that causes the issue though. Beef Liver is very high in good copper. Oxidized copper (like almost every supplement, it is blue in color) is bad and will likely cause toxicity. Copper is important for iron utilization, so copper toxicity or deficiency can cause anemia.

      It doesn't provide glycine directly, TMG [Betaine/Trimethylglycine] needs to first be converted to DMG [Dimethylglycine] *Which can act as a glycine site agonist with different properties to glycine* through BHMT (zinc dependent enzyme), then to Sarcosine [N-Methylglycine] by DMGDH (FAD dependent enzyme) , then to Glycine through SARDH (THF substrate dependent).
      That's a long chain that can have a lot of disruption, and besides that, once it becomes glycine, that glycine is going to be preferentially used down the creatine synthesis pathway rather than recycling back through Serine, Ethanolamine, Choline and back to Betaine. There are many disorders that could cause any of these chains to work poorly, but most importantly the addition of Niacinimide/Niacin increasing the demand for many of these enzymes/chemicals.

      @@corahnihlost923 Thanks for your thorough answer. Yet I think that since TMG can be used in relatively large doses most of the problems/disorders associated with the use of TMG can be avoided. I take 2 x (500 mg Niacin + 1000 mg TMG) per day and have pristine liver enzymes and a reduced homocysteine level

      @@dankurth4232 My bigger concern with using Niacin over Niacinimide to do with Glycine requirements would be the increase in Glutamate that Niacin induces through it's conversion to NAD+.
      Niacin goes through Glutamine-Dependent NAD Synthetase/Glutaminase to fuel de novo NAD+ synthesis.
      Glutaminase converts Glutamine into Glutamate by transferring Ammonia into the Synthetase step of NaAD-NAD+.
      The extra Glutamate being produced, combined with revving up the metabolism of Glutamine-Glutamate would warrant additional Glycine to balance out at the glycine sites on NMDA receptors. As well as additional Glutamine to ensure a proper balance of NH3 metabolism.
      Niacinimide is recycled through NAMPT/NMNAT, which is generally a lot safer of a choice, Oleic Acid is a good way of boosting NAMPT.

      @@corahnihlost923 Thanks again. With respect to your concerns it might be a good idea to add a ‚Glutathione Booster‘ (a combination of NAC, Glycine and Glutamine) to the ‚diet‘
      And certainly oleic acid is a very good supplement anyway, mostly available in the rather not so mild olive oil

      @@yougotshnaucked no it doesn't actually increase histamine it depletes your body of it and you temporarily yet a histamine release but then it is depleted out of your body and then when you get saturated enough you don't flush anymore I've taken up to 2,000 mg a day without flushing and didn't damage my liver. Some of these doctors just want to get people on drugs and I want proof where's the studies? dr. Abram Hoffer took it til he was 96 years old every day and did not get liver disease or die of a heart attack. He used to use it to control schizophrenia in his patients because people who are histadelic AKA too much histamine can be schizophrenic so it doesn't actually raise your histamine it leaves your body of it so when it's on its way out that's when you get the flushing or high. This goes away.

      I was told after trying NR it caused muscle weakness & other concerning side effects in clinical studies.
      Niacin releases toxins to detox the body, according to many doctors & experts of detoxing heavy metals and other toxins. I’m familiar w detox symptoms & I’ve definitely gotten them from Niacin, which apparently releases toxins into the bloodstream to help the body remove them. That alone can make someone feel off or even awful,. I’ve definitely experienced multiple times from regular Niacin. NR May have other side effects as well, other forms don’t cause & may cause more harm than good.
      Aside from the advice in the video, I think it’s a good idea to use regular Niacin (that causes a flush) and to start at lower doses...to afford stressing the body.
      Curious what Chris’s opinion is on this
