Ive had my Z9 for over 1 year and I love it. As a lover of new tech I'm always looking at other brands, but at the price they are asking for the top models it would be hard to change. Wish list for me would be 30fps in raw for bird stills.
Thanks for your video and comments. Nice to see you're in Dallas. A couple of quick asides. 1. The weather sealing on my Z9 was/is awful. If you open the Kensington lock, all the rubber starts pealing off (front and back) and becomes incredibly annoying. You can't put the Kensington lock rubber gasket back in. Nikon knows this (and sent me a form to send the camera back in), but it is a persistent problem on many Z9s and ruins the weather sealing. 2. Color Science: I've only been shooting a few years, and purchased the Z9 upon release because I shoot primarily action, sports, wildlife and knew what I wanted out of a mirrorless camera (i.e. silent shooting, long battery life, high FPS, accurate AF etc). The Z9 has been terrific for much of this. That said, color science is not only different between brands, but even from camera to camera within the same manufacturer. I agree with your basic premise, and that is, the colors are pleasing out of camera (perhaps because that's what we are use to) - and the Nikon files seem to be more malleable to manipulation. 3. The rubber tabs (i.e. HDMI) could have been individual, instead of grouped so only the one needed is open. I completely understand you wanted duel recording for video. Makes sense. I'm not a video guy yet (would love your input on this), but also understand your wish to view via internal luts (BTW: are you using the new shutter angle feature?). Also get the need for a tally light. Surprised you didn't find the lack of a "flippy screen". As for Nikon adding several of your wishes in firmware updates, I think the Z9ii in a bit less than one year may be announced, so they may be holding on to that for the new version. As a stills photographer, we haven't even seen zebras in stills (why?) yet (when it is in video). It's clear that the next iteration of the Z9ii will likely have a higher resolution EVF, possible faster frame rate (i.e. 30), pre-capture in RAW, higher sync speed and some of the other video advantages of having acquired RED. There may also be another camera with global shutter and unlimited sync speed. Time will tell. Thanks for your video -
Not currently looking at the 135 just cause I don’t think it has enough use case for our workflow on wedding days! I have heard great things about it though!
Wondering if you did indeed replace the Z9 or added the Z8. Currently testing the Z8 - really like it, but actually thinking of a Z9 for the added grip. Used the price difference btw the two is about $500 for same condition. With the Z8 if I had the Nikon grip and 2 spares I'm up to the Z9 almost (would need 1 more CF Express card so gotta add that in as well at $200). Used to shooting medium format cameras so size is not so much an issue.
How do you manage around the non dual recording? Do you switch cards and backup your files multiple times through out a wedding day? Or do you just trust your cards?
A little bit of both! We trust in our equipment a lot and take good care of it and replace cards as they get old, we’re using Angelbird CFE cards and they work beautifully! We also film important moments on at least 3 angles so if anything happened to one angle we have more to pull from!
Nice video mate, it would be great to see some videos looking at how you grade your footage and how you process your NRAW files. Looking forward to seeing some more of your videos in the future!
How is Nikon able to keep the price on this 3+ year old camera at almost same levels as original asking prices ? The tech is at least 5-7 years old now ?
People still willing to Pay it, and with inflation, the Price, is actually lower than it was 3 yrs ago. It is a Decent Camera, it can do something my POS D850 never did properly, and that is Focus
Your background video screen is incredibly annoying, I almost stopped watching because of it. But I enjoyed the information you shares, so just blocked it out with my hand
Great video!! ive had mine for just over two years and at 753,850 clicks! LIKE A BEAST
It is a beast!!!

I think Canon and Sony still hasn't caught up with the specs of Z9. Autofocus, may be they are marginally better . Z6iii also has no real competition
There’s no beating Nikon right now 🔥

Thanks for your insight! There’s always pros and cons to each body! I think we’ve been lucky with ours!
I got mine converted to full spectrum and will continue to use it for a long time.
Great to see another filmmaker uses Nikon Z9. Do you own a 135 1.8 yet? I’m hearing it is a filmmakers dream lens, even though it has limit uses.
Not currently looking at the 135 just cause I don’t think it has enough use case for our workflow on wedding days! I have heard great things about it though!
Good to see more Nikon Weddings shooters in DFW! Just got a Zf (mostly for photo) and eyeing the Z8 / Z6iii soon for all things video....
DFW represent! The Z8 would be a great choice for video, you should definitely pick one up 👀
@ within the time I commented, went ahead and grabbed it and love it haha. Would love to see a tutorial on how you expose & color your films!
I love mine. Deciding if I want another, or maybe a Z8 instead.
i dont think you can go wrong with either choice🔥

just picked one up used. what lenses should I pick up?
Whatever Lenses you want to. No One can pick the ones that you want/need. It all depends on what you shoot, and your Budget
@
Soooo still waiting to hear what lenses I should pick up
@@tazsmith
Ones you want/need
@ but what ones are those?

You must be trolling, as very few, and I mean Very Few, buy a Z9 without any Photographic Experience.
0:20 where ya get the Nikon teddy bear from?
I got it at Fort Worth Camera here in DFW!
Because z9 is too expensive for me, I'm looking for z8 or z6iii. Which one should I choose? Should I wait for new A7V?
Do you have Extended Oversampling active ?
Yes I do! It was one of the first settings I turned on when I got the Z9! Should I do a video test on it to see the difference between it on and off?
@@kindredwedding would be nice. haven't seen that anywhere.

Thank you so much! Will definitely have to do a video on color grading a wedding sometime! 🔥
Having to use DaVinci resolve is honestly a bonus 😅

What shutter count you at 🙈
It may have a frame count, but it does not have a shutter to count for.

Really 😅
6725. I still shoot like I am shooting Film, where every click costs $0.65
I have a Z9 and Z8, which I love, and a Zf which I hate. I will never use all the capabilities of these cameras.
There is absolutely so much to these cameras, Nikon did not hold back💪🏽

Nice
Thanks so much!
One thing for sure: Nikon Z9 will never get Precapture raw because it has reached its limits.
Not necessarily.
