Hearing of Dick Butkus' passing, reminded me of my dearly departed dad. We alwaus watched football and basketball games together, when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s in Chicago.

They didn't say she represented Maryland, only that Maryland was choosing to lower its state flag at the same time that many U.S. flags were being lowered across the country. I will look it up in a moment, but my guess is maybe it was her birthplace.
ETA: made an attempt at a search, but all I could find seemed to indicate it was being lowered by the state because the US flag was being lowered, and that rules, so nearly as I can tell, is in most if not all states. At any rate, the point still stands that they never said she was the senator from Maryland.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease - the NIH (National Institutes for Health) notes that the disease "affects motor neurons-those nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. Voluntary muscles are those we choose to move to produce movements like chewing, walking, and talking." It's a disease that slowly takes away so many abilities of the person and often they waste away. It's a truly tragic disease that takes its toll over years and takes many well before their time.

I know when my ancestors came over on the boat from Italy and my uncles opened up their shops here in the US fixing shoes and clothes and nobody questioned what they did but I guarantee their mother (my grandmother)was the person who taught them how to sew. Double standard here. So Beverly Willis certainly was a pioneer and a person women should look up to especially the time period. Forgot Singer Johnny Nash. He died the same day as Eddie Van Halen. He is known for songs like "I Can See Clearly" and "Hold Me Tight"
