What is the Difference Between an Amulet, Talisman, and Charm?

- An amulet and a talisman are two different things. They are also distinct from charms. An amulet is a small object that can be natural or man made and is thought to ward off evil. Some people will refer to this as bringing good luck. It is a means of defense. A talisman needs to be man made and is thought to have the ability to enhance your own powers or abilities. It is more offensive. In modern times a charm is more of a sentimental piece that holds a memory or has specific meaning.

Charm.... Something that brings good luck (clover leaf, rabbit foot, coin, certain stones). Usually from nature. That's why we say good luck charm
Amulet... something that protects, ward off evil/negative energies, defense for the wearer. That's why called protection amulet (example certain stones like black tourmaline, minerals, seeds, bones etc)
Talisman... Man made, with rituals, it boosts ones ability. Like make you stronger, quicker, better speaker, better lover. It needs specific mantras to work, specific time to program etc

The Talisman and the Amulet?
In some witchcraft, you can think of a talisman (T = towards) and amulet (A = away). So talisman for power, money whatever, and amulet keeps away bad energies, other things you don't want anywhere near you.

An amulet and a talisman are not different. The terms are interchangeable in English. It's not natural vs. man-made. It's not repelling vs. drawing. It's any physical object meant to do magic.
A charm can be an amulet/talisman, or it can be a verbal formula (prayer, mantra, spell etc.)

Sooo…amulets and talismans are just another form of technology, like swords and writing instruments. They’re only amplifiers of abilities you already have. Or else they give you powers that you don’t. But still…just another kind of technology. Disappointing.

Medallions are generally flat and round and can have a variety of designs. They would never be an amulet but could be a talisman or a charm. xoxo
