    This has got to be the most informative video on decoy spreads. This made more sense than the “simple” video that says put out a J or a U

    Subscribed as soon as I saw the Scripture verse ! I try to include one in all of my videos as well. Thanks for being unashamed brother.
    Last Friday I had a group of 18 mallards land in front of me with only 5 decoys in the water! It was awesome. That's all I had with me on that particular day and a lot of our standing water is already starting to freeze up here in Colorado, so options are limited.
    I will hunt the rivers as well, but a lot of that is jump shooting. Well still fun, I agree with you, there is NOTHING like getting ducks all the way into the decoys.
    As God told Peter, (and Phil Robertson loves to quote) "Arise, kill, and eat !" -Acts 10:13
    God bless you, man. Hunt safe.

    Very well put together video. One thing I continue to take note of in all these videos. A lot of them do not apply to areas where we hunt in MN and ND. Walking in the swamps and marshes and potholes is pure hell. Going out there multiple times is a nightmare. We just do not have nice hard bottoms. Some of these holes have many many feet of pure "loon shit". I heard one story of a guy who pounded corner posts for a permanent duck blind and he ended up going to 30' before he hit solid ground. And a lot of those spots are walk-in spots so no boat of any kind and very difficult walking.

    Do mallard drake deeks flair other birds like gadwall, teal, and widgeon? I hunt the coast and that’s mainly what we shoot where I hunt and I’ve been told that they do

    • @ChasingGreen
      @ChasingGreen  Год назад

      Not in my experience, but ducks do act differently in different areas. But we get plenty of gadwall, teal and widgeon over mallard decoys. Maybe something to experiment with in your area

    I’m from central Mississippi. And I have been struggling to just get on the x. I’ve tried running traffic but haven’t been very effective. Any tips for running traffic

    • @ChasingGreen
      @ChasingGreen  Год назад

      Ive done a whole video on this. You can searcy "chasing green running traffic" and it will pop up. It goes into great detail on the subject. Bascially though, you need to be under as many birds as possible, like just a few flying over through the morning isnt enough, you need bigger spreads with decent amount of calling, and you need right conditions. Preferably windy and cold. Very hard to run traffic alone or with just 2 guys unless your are in the right spot with the right birds. I highly recommend that video though, as i think it will give you the answers your looking for.

    I used to always throw a couple odd-balls off from the main group in a couple directions. If the ducks were wanting to land short, we would grab a couple decoys and head downwind 50-75 yards. Killed quite a few that way through the years, especially late morning.

    • @ChasingGreen
      @ChasingGreen  3 года назад

      Yep, it can be a deadly strategy for sure!

    I run as small as possible down here on the Texas coast have shot 3-4 man limits over 2 decoys but usually just roll with a half dozen gadwall and half dozen coots

      Small spreads definitely work! We run them a lot to

      @@ChasingGreen it's crazy cuz you can go 20-30 miles north to a rice field and try to the same small decoy spread and not get anything but then throw 6-10 dozen on that Ricefield and it's a game changer! Different spreads for different areas I've learned... but the main thing is finding the X and figuring it out from there

      The dog rarely kills a duck.

    When you run a mixed spread, what species of decoys do you run?

    • @ChasingGreen
      @ChasingGreen  3 года назад +2

      Teal, pintail, and about to be black ducks. I was with a guy who had a drone last season, we had painted black mallards in the spread...it was crazy how much they stood out. White on pintails and shovelers look good. Teal give different dimensions that look really good to me. Hens or brown ducks you cant hardly see at all so thats kinda what i focus on. Though i bet what a greenhead sees is much different that what i can see. Also like Canada decoys if im in a spot where i can use em.

    Its not called hunting, you are doing duck betraying, you are tricking them and killing them, hunting is something where your opponent has a chance to survive, even wild animal don't cheat other animals, but human beings have fallen so much that they are to trick the poor little birds to kill them

    • @ChasingGreen
      @ChasingGreen  2 года назад +3

      Wild animals dont cheat other animals? You obviously know very little about nature and how vicous the life cycle is. I highly suggest you study predators a little more in depth before commenting on the subject. I eat meat because it is good for the body. I believe it is a God created resource, i just choose to obtain and process it my self instead of going to the store and have someone handle and do who knows what to it. If you eat meat, then your just a hypocrite. If you eat dont eat meat, then we just have a disagreement on the purpose of animals as resource to the ecosystem, which humans are a part of as a predator. And the ducks absolutely has a chance to survive, in fact most of them do. They have a very good chance. It amazes me how someone can form an opinion with literally doing no research, put zero effort in trying to form an objective opinion. If you think the animal has no chance, you have no clue about how hunting works.
