This sounds really good Miguel so well done with the re-mastering. It definitely sounds like it is of the Can't Buy a Thrill time. In fact the black and white image above is a part of the CBAT cover. It's always nice to hear a new Steely Dan song. Thanks for posting.
as an long long Dan, fan, hearing this song for the first time 8/24.. 3rd time playing it now I can already feel this song weaving itself into my DNA..
Im hearing bits and pieces of ideas/chord changes/vocal Melodie’s etc. of.midnight cruiser, barrytown and one or two more early ones that I can’t quite put my finger on. Love me some Steely Dan! And I love how Don’s younger voice is so full sounding. I haven’t found anything confirms this, but I think he had a nose job before Aja was recorded. His voice is noticeably more nasal. He makes a remark to this effect on the Aja doc.
Lyrics don't seem to be anywhere online, so: I remember very well the day you came in town The music played like a holiday and we thought we'd never come down It's been like a ghost town since you left for parts unknown How could you stand to take your bags in hand and leave us alone? The train don't never come on time When you're away the sun don't wanna shine Some day I'm gonna make you mine Sakka Joweda, my friend When you gonna come back and see us again? We waited so long You can't do no wrong Sing your song Every day the gas man would leave flowers at your door And we all knew it was because of you that he joined the Army Air Corps When you danced at Randy's bar the band would swing like ne'er(?) And all they do now is play the blues now, they've got it real bad This time we'll never be the same I wish I never seen the day you came And every night I call your name Sakka Joweda, my friend When you gonna come back and see us again? We waited so long You can't do no wrong Sing your song (Instrumental Break) This time we'll never be the same I wish I never seen the day you came And every night I call your name Sakka Joweda, my friend When you gonna come back and see us again? We waited so long You can't do no wrong Sing your song Sing your song Sing your song Sing your song Sing your song [That was really good!]
It wasn't me that discovered it. The outtake emerged online in 2020 or so, I just did a light remaster for the fun of it! Originally uploaded by @saltspicious after a discussion on reddit. Thanks.
Guitar riff under Fagen saying "Sakka Joweda" has sort of a Bowie / Bolan / May quality to it. I dig it. Early Dan is a lot more "of the times" than their later stuff when they really carve out their own jazz-rock niche.
It never got a release , it's a demo , enjoyable to hear the band and individual players and pick out certain elements of the song that ended up in presumably later compositions the guys didnt like it enough to develop it further so you're not alone in not caring too much for it.
Feels really nice to hear a "new" steely dan song again
Even their outakes are better than a lot others actual releases, they were that good.
Wow! How this tune was left on the cutting floor is beyond me. Fagen & Becker = Brilliant songwriters!
Just when you think you've heard all the Steely Dan outtakes!
Right?!?!
wow a Steely Dan song i have never heard!!!!!!!!!

Songs with meaning. Fagen and Becker were very thorough songwriters and musicians. I don't see that too much anymore.
I'm a big fan of the Dan and this is the first time I've ever heard this song!
Wow. Yes. The Gershwin Brothers of our generation. We were blessed growing up in the 70's. Great comparison. Thank you.
Rogers and Hammerstein of 70’s
Great song and I'm happy with the improved fidelity. The song reminds me of "Brooklyn (Owes The Charmer Under Me)" and "Pearl Of The Quarter" ...
yep, right on

Since the beginning they showed their genius!
Sounds like Barrytown at first. Vocals sound like Countdown Structure sounds like the Pretzel Logic sessions
How to say you’re a Steely Dan fanatic without actually saying it. ☝️🥴👍
Good parsing

Did he call it his Jerry Lewis phase?
I've always wondered about this myself; I like how he sounds on this earlier stuff best as well.
Love this song! The story being told is quite similar to Josie, love it

“The band would swing like mad”
Sort of seems like he’s saying “this town will never be the same” doesn’t it?
I love it! First time I have heard it............ Thx for sharing
Interesting cut. It's like it's get up and go ,got up and left by the second verse. The noodling keys at the end is nice. 😎
Sacagawea, Native American woman who helped Lewis & Clark
Great solo on the outro by DF , great to live in a world where vague mention of song titles from way back become tangible entities. Thanks for this.
Dan outros are always special. Respect Xxx
This is brilliant. Great audio and discovered its a CBAT outtake
love the percussion
Never heard this one, thanks much.🙏😷🎵👀❗🎸

Sounds like Sacagawea to me.

I have always liked Steely Dan , Even though they were named after a Medical Dildo !
@@Mrsplanetmaster9 Steam driven dildo?
No, the answer is BECAUSE they were named after a dildo.

never heard this tune on the radio in the '70s. Don't care for this song at all.

The must of been, very stoned when they recorded this one. They're my favorite band, but this one is dud,the melody and tiempo,s etc!
@@claytonflinchum3962 LOL, let's see you write a song a fraction of how good this is.
there's nothing wrong with this song other than "DUH, I DIDN'T HEAR IT BACK IN THE 70'S".
