Gaucho has enough songs to be double LP master piece. But greed of record label and Donalds and Walters fight for artistic resulted bad for all parties including audience. Thanks to everyone who kept this treasure and let us hear this musical gold legacy!
Astounding! I'm just loving the mixes you sound folks are putting together! Don't know how you're doing it, but I'm grateful. I just can't imagine if D&W had been able to come up with the lyrics to replace the nahnahs; and then released this gem!! :-()
Kind Spirit don't go Tell me why the time has come to fly on by Kind Spirit don't go Such as shame the room won't be the same Don't leave me here to fade without your flame 😎
Once again, gentlemen, BRAVO! I agree; we only imagine what could have been, haunting melody and beautiful even just with the "Na, Na"s' I'll just throw it out there that it's probably Gadd doing that incredible drum track. You catch the high-hat cymbals closing so beautifully. Great work.
This is actually Billy Cobham on drums. Apparently, from what I've heard the vision for those guys was to feature Cobham on a trilogy of songs on Gaucho where they could showcase him. I don't know which other songs was supposed to be part of the trilogy, but I personally believe I Can't Write Home About You was one of them because of the potential for a groove that would fit Cobham perfectly and the fact that it's one of the South America inspired songs that was supposed to be on the album. When you think about it and listen to the demos from the Gaucho sessions, it's no coincidence that the album cover art is such a strong South American symbol. So much of the Gaucho material is inspired by music from Mexico and Argentina. We don't know what Heartbreak Souvenir sounded like, but we have The Bear, Gaucho, I Can't Write Home About You, Kind Spirit and Hey Nineteen that are all heavily inspired by South America in different ways. Cobham's drumming was perfect for their version of that.
The released albums were what they were. It's too late now. They are imprinted on our ears and on our memories. They can't be changed. We don't do time travel. Some of these reconstituted tracks sound NQR to my ears.
Seems to coincide with a raw time for Walter and Donald with the long effort to complete Gaucho, hassles with the label, Walter’s taxi accident, and maybe knowing they would need years off…….I have a cover version for solo guitar 😊with links to chord charts for this luscious song : ruclips.net/video/wU-0JmtfhN8/видео.html
@@IronMan-tk8uc I think a lot of people wanted to sound like Steve right about then. He was the big hot thing in 79'. But it definitely wasn't him according to the engineer who tracked this :)
Not so much anymore. I wanted to distance myself away from the community after it had some backlash.. I still have the juices flowing though, but I'm probably not as good as before.

Such an amazing song. This could have been one of their greats, if completed. How could they have abandoned this?
How the hell could they not finish this!!!!! Such a great track.

Another classic Steely Dan outtake.

I agree! I actually hardly knew that the hi-hat part even existed until I examined the track in full detail.

@@michaelcaplin8969 That's amazing. Thanks for that info. my friend.

@@joshkelly794 Another good possibility, thanks.
Excellent start to my morning.
This is incredible!! Love this, and love you!
Great but so sad. This quality's so good.
Thank you for this.
Fascinating

"Na na na " is sharp!
Fantastic. Thanks so much.
Wish they could have added this somehow, without over compression of this otherwise great and if not close to their best work.
👍✌❤

I have to disagree with the sentiments stated here. As good as this is, it didn’t belong on Gaucho. It belongs in a movie.
It's sounds very Royal Scam-esque to me.
Demo with finished rhythm tracks?
Steve Gadd, Drums!
It wasn't him. I'm still trying to find out who it was. All I know is that he was a new guy they were auditioning.
Upon another listen, I think you may be right.
It isn't? Sounds exactly like him, including the bass drum@@michaelcaplin8969

@@michaelcaplin8969 The only other cat who had a similar style in my view was Buddy Williams, due to the also strong bass drum game.
Commendatori!!
Do you play Melee on Slippi?
