Man, I miss Capcom fighting games having acid jazz OSTs. I mean, of course they where of their time, so it makes sense why they don't have it anymore; it's not the late 90's anymore after all. But I still miss it :/.
I've never played CvS1, just a shit ton of CvS2. I've honestly never even seen much of CvS1 before, but hot damn this game's stages are SO much cooler and more beautiful looking than CvS2's stages! I mean, 2 has a couple of nice stages (though they do get a little too cute for their own good with their implementation of 3D models), but it's NOTHING like these awesome stages. Just look at that back alley stage with your character's shadows reflecting on the walls!! Why the fuck do we not have something like that in a modern fighting game!?
I sometimes wish capcom would've included the CVS 1 stages as unlockables in CVS 2 I mean it all ran on the Naomi hardware it couldn't have been too hard
SFV could really stand to borrow some of these stage intros and designs. And that music is freakin' sweet. Also, Ken's character select art makes him look WAY too much like Charlie Sheen.
Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator takes notes, heck the models change full body lighting depending on their position to the stage. Alas, that doesn't help its popularity.
yeah, I had mainly KOF XIV and SFV in mind. Shame for Guilty Gear, but I can also understand why it's not that popular, it's way too much anime-style for me. Can't describe it better, but I hope it's clear :)
I love how he uploads this right after his latest week of Urien video just so you can see how bad it is to play SFV compared to a better game like CvSNK back to back.
honestly ive always like the aesthetics, music, and just overall presentation a lot more than CvS2. Tho 2 is definitely superior gameplay and character wise. One thing im confused about tho is how are Dan and Joe in this version? They were'nt in the original CvS for dreamcast, i thought they were only added in the "Pro" Playstation port.
LOL For YEARS I couldn't really figure out what Raiden was saying, as a kid I thought he was saying "Say ya prayers, Wayne!" I'm like, who's Wayne? And why is his beef with him so big that he needs to announce his demise at the start of fights not with said person? lol. But this game brings back a lot of fond memories, I still have it too, I might fire up the Dreamcast to play this.
DOUBLE REPPUKEN!!! *Bison Blocks projectile like a boss* *Geese gestures bison to bring it* *King of South Town* *v.s.* *Leader of Shadaloo* LET'S FUCKING GO!!!
I love this game and it's one of the Golden gems of the Dreamcast fighting game era. Music was fantastic, gameplay was fluid and comprehensible to get aroind, just the overall sheer fun I had with myself and family in this game.
My favorite fighting game ever... this game was the one to introduce me to fighting games in general and I loved playing it almost every day. Great video Max!
No Max, that Zangief art is the best, just look at his shit eating grin! Also this game's UI shows that you can have a simple clean interface that is stylized at the same time.
Oh snap. It's Guy's stage from Alpha. Just across the street from that store that has the Street Fighter 2 poster in the window. (At about three minutes in, the second battle). I've never seen this version of CVSNK
I think I remember playing this game when I was younger. I believe it was one of the first fighting games I've ever played as a child. Thanks for bringing back old memories, Max.
I love this quarters up series! and holy shit i always wondered what cvs1 looked like, and god damn its spritework is so nice =] And when i saw those shadows on the wall i was pretty damn amazed i have to play this game just for that stage for real.
I dont care what anyone might say: Imo, Capcom Vs SNK 1 was more enjoyable than the second one. Yes, it had more polish, medium attacks, more complete movesets, a better arcade mode, etc. ... But damn, was the UI lame. Landing a winning blow in Capcom Vs SNK 1 felt awesome, just because of said IU, the awesome annoncer and the insanely hype song playing.
yep i.ytimg.com/vi/Qn8DNjUPxH0/maxresdefault.jpg I could swear Max either talked or showed his at some point. Theres pretty much arcade sticks for every system and if not you can always make your own pretty easy
Did you encounter in this stage when Bison is about to take of his robe, and Akuma just kills him from behind? Then you fight Akuma in fact. That was just printed in my favourite memories of this game forever. Great game!
Mostly to show how good you are. You get points based on combos, using super finishers and utilizing the advantages of the groove you chose. At the end of arcade runs you'd often run into bosses based on your Groove Score. Using continues took a chunk of Groove so you'd have to make up points if you wanted to face a harder boss. They'd also be your final score for the game's scoreboard as well.
No problem! As you watch you can see when he does things, it scores him and grants points accordingly. Also when he gets hit/fails to tech/gets KO'd and the like he loses points. This game was pretty rough on your performance. I feel MVC2 was a bit more lax.
Which bosses were in this game BTW? anything on the same level as G/Ult Rugal and Shin Akuma, or no? I know games like SVC Chaos had some crazy fighters.
The stages in this game were some of the best that Capcom ever made. Artistically it's probably the best they've made IMHO. For aesthetics alone I like it over CvS2.
It would had been fitting if Max had chosen ken to fight Terry so that ken would had gotten his revenge from losing to Terry at Death Battle. By the way, could some one explain me to what level system in this game is based on and how it works?
I have no idea, I think that is random, I tried a lot of stuff since the game's release but I still can't figure out a way to trigger a specific boss stage.
If you select a SNK character first you fight Bison If you select a Capcom character first you fight Geese Max picked Joe and Geese first on his teams so he would fight Bison
When you got to Bison's stage it was fun to watch your inputs going up live on the top left corner of the computer readout screen. Such a fun feature =)
3x quarters. But you would've gotten the poopoo ending. There are 2 real bosses. That takes place on a awesome rainy Japanese rooftop with lightning at night time. Kyo does have his kicks, but to get it, you have to unlock his EX mode. This is my number 1 favorite fighting game of all time, followed by guilty gear X for Dreamcast then killer instinct gold. I think this game has the best character sprites, levels, moves (giving two versions of each character with the ex option) and content. Getting to akuma or rugal at the end and fighting them on that stage is so satisfying!
Sure, the stages look really great when you're not used to them and don't get sick of them. But imagine not seeing the new beach stage from SFV for 15 years and then suddenly seeing it again. SFV is not that bad, it just needs content. And plenty of it.
SFV's stages can actually look pretty neat when you look past the character models. However, I think Max is talking more about the aesthetic and artstyle mixing REALLY well with the shadow affects. SFV's artsyle STILL isn't that good, it's STILL got terrible scores on reviews across the board, and so far Capcom has been RIDICULOUSLY slow at doing anything to make the game appealing to casuals. It's just not gonna happen. We're gonna have to face it, SFV is probably gonna die a LOT sooner than SF4 did. SFV needed a HELL of a lot of content at the start to get anywhere WITHOUT all of the extra dlc. With games like Smash4, Tekken (in general nowadays) and KOF14 coming out giving people a huge bang for their buck, it definitely doesn't help SFV with sales when people see some pretty damn good alternatives. If we're taliking about looks here, Smash, Tekken 7, GGXRD, and MK win against SFV HANDS DOWN. Capcom thought the Street Fighter name would be enough. It wasn't.
The entire CVS/SVC Versus needs to be re released, real talk. I remember teaching the local gamestop guy Kim Kaphwan and he was so amazed, the game was just so cool
Oh man, I remember the thumb blisters from this game. There's secret endings based on performance and everything. Definitely want to pull this and the old Dreamcast out of storage now!
Wait, the Final Fight Stage's theme still has the rapping (and F Bomb) in the version Max is playing, but I thought the only western version that was uncensored was the PAL PSX port?
Wow Max thanks for playing this. I never saw CvS 1 before. Soon as I finished watching I downloaded a copy for NullDC. Just beat the arcade mode first try with Ken and Terry. Man I like this much better personally than CvS 2. I hate all the stupid grooves in 2. The stages and intros are sick. Burning a backup copy for my Dreamcast right now!
Guys, i just peeped, Joe's running animation looks alot like Joseph's from Jojo. Coincidence? Similar name, Capcom/SNK made Fighting Game, Capcom and SNK love Jojo to death and have basically openly admitted it. Yup...this is indeed a Jojo reference. The meme lives
How is it Dan and Joe appear in your game and not in mine?! Is there a certain condition for that or are you playing the Pro version of the game? I love this games and fighters in general but 2D sprite based games look so good. I play Cvs SNK 1&2, Guilty Gear, Blaz Blue and SNKvsCapcom as well as 3D fighters like Tekken and Soul Calibur, but I really hope for a CvsSNK 3.
I remember using mugen back in the day. I used the stage in 5.20min as Ken's background and put Oasis - f*cking in the bushes as the sound track. So Epic!
I don't know if having Balrog and Bison called with their original M. Bison and Vega names is a glitch or not, but it killed me. XD And have to say it: What stages!! Just wow.
I have the PAL version of CVS Pro, and this arcade version looks WAY better. I liked the idea of the Ratio system relating to how strong each character is in the lore, but CVS2 is much more loved as they refined what was good in this game.
I have the Japanese version of this game, and I'm a huge nerd when it comes to home Arcade ports, now is the dream cast version a straight up 100% pixel perfect port of the sega Naomi version? Because people of been telling me that even though the Naomi was still just a smidge powerful than the Dreamcast, Sega was still able to get perfect from what they said arcade perfect port is that true?
I wished Capcom used this kind of UI because i feel it is more stylish and clean than CVS2 imo. Kinda wanted a re-make of CVS1 with CVS2 rooster -and extra characters like Leona, like why the hell she haven't included yet, or any other games that is not fighting from both company, like Jill from Resident Evil or any Metal Slug characters.-
My favorite Capcom game they ever made. So original and unique. It had so much character and personality their games today completely lack. I don't think Capcom can ever return to making original titles like CvS unless they can actually retain the talent that made this possible and also stay true to their vision while not catering to mainstream grips and woes. Stop being Cashcom and be Capcom again.
[Rugal uses his famous Genocide Cutter he's had since 1994]
"This guy thinks he's Nash!"
[Insert sad Rich Evans image here]
lol, Max has been playing too much SFV. He forgot Rugal came first.
I want SNK to shine enough so we can have a Capcom vs SNK 3.
Duke Magus Someone already did a M.U.G.E.N download for that
Crimson-fox Twitch We want something authentic.
Man, I miss Capcom fighting games having acid jazz OSTs. I mean, of course they where of their time, so it makes sense why they don't have it anymore; it's not the late 90's anymore after all. But I still miss it :/.
likewise CrossfacePanda, likewise.
I've never played CvS1, just a shit ton of CvS2. I've honestly never even seen much of CvS1 before, but hot damn this game's stages are SO much cooler and more beautiful looking than CvS2's stages!

I sometimes wish capcom would've included the CVS 1 stages as unlockables in CVS 2 I mean it all ran on the Naomi hardware it couldn't have been too hard
Is it odd that I want to see Max play the KOF games, starting from 94' and up?
Edit: My mistake, peeps.
No it is not. I would love to see that.
I'd love it too.
yes is odd, since he has to start with 94
But I thought it all began in 94?
RainDaemonic And it kept on rollin' in '95?
SFV could really stand to borrow some of these stage intros and designs. And that music is freakin' sweet.
Also, Ken's character select art makes him look WAY too much like Charlie Sheen.
Holy shit, now I can't unsee that.
The Rogue Wolf 3rd strike music was amazing aswell. sf4/5 music is really bad LOL
8:53 those shadows on the buildings look awesome! The style of this game is amazing, modern fighting games should take some notes.
if it costs too much effort, they won't take any notes lol.
Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator takes notes, heck the models change full body lighting depending on their position to the stage. Alas, that doesn't help its popularity.
I've seen in KOF 13
yeah, I had mainly KOF XIV and SFV in mind. Shame for Guilty Gear, but I can also understand why it's not that popular, it's way too much anime-style for me. Can't describe it better, but I hope it's clear :)
-Quarters Up!
-Playing on a console
I love how he uploads this right after his latest week of Urien video just so you can see how bad it is to play SFV compared to a better game like CvSNK back to back.
you sfv haters are on a roll
dam skippy.
Nostalgia goggles hello this looks like shit
I am guessing you sucked at it.
+TheNinjaGallade A few days ago on Twitter. Takumi: "Here in Japan ppl call SFV "Duty V" : Nobody wants to play it but everybody has to."
Those Bison sprites are so awesome. The animations and voice acting are awesome as well!
CvS Dictator is my favorite Dictator sprite.
It would be nice, if we got an #CVS2 online game for the #PS4.
That UI and Music tho! damn! Presentation!
13:13 you mean Nash thinks he's Rugal
Exactly!
8:35 - 11:50
These shadows projected on the wall... DAMN, THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!
This was the game that truly makes me fall in love with the fighting game genre. It has the sexiest presentation in fighting game history
I hated that they reused Chun Li's Alpha sprite for this game. It looked so out of place. There's also Morrigan.
yeah Morgan looked way out of place
morrigan has only had like one sprite ever
Yeah, and they did a completely new one for CVS2, resembling more to her Third Strike sprite
honestly ive always like the aesthetics, music, and just overall presentation a lot more than CvS2. Tho 2 is definitely superior gameplay and character wise. One thing im confused about tho is how are Dan and Joe in this version? They were'nt in the original CvS for dreamcast, i thought they were only added in the "Pro" Playstation port.
***** Ahh ok, thanks.
Talking about SNK, it's been a while since your last KOF XIV video...
Why not just watch his latest KOF stream?

LOL For YEARS I couldn't really figure out what Raiden was saying, as a kid I thought he was saying "Say ya prayers, Wayne!" I'm like, who's Wayne?
DOUBLE REPPUKEN!!!
*Bison Blocks projectile like a boss*
*Geese gestures bison to bring it*
*King of South Town*
*v.s.*
*Leader of Shadaloo*
LET'S FUCKING GO!!!
Too bad we didn't see the "car crash" stage. That one was pretty hype.
Rugal threw Cammy 4 times and she died
Presentation, music, stages and overall charm of CvS 1 + gameplay and characters of CvS 2 = the fucking best fighting game of all time.
I love this game and it's one of the Golden gems of the Dreamcast fighting game era. Music was fantastic, gameplay was fluid and comprehensible to get aroind, just the overall sheer fun I had with myself and family in this game.
How many times has bison died? I feel like it's at least 5
Bison is so hardcore that he died with a smile on his face :)
his canon deaths are, I believe, died in alpha 3, died in sf 2, died in sf v
Guy comes back to life more than Dragon Ball Z characters XD
Nah! Yamcha and Krillin still beat Bison by a milestone when it comes to coming back to life. XD

I actually grown up with the first Capcom vs Snk. Good memories!
I discover the second game much later.
My favorite fighting game ever... this game was the one to introduce me to fighting games in general and I loved playing it almost every day. Great video Max!
Yo those shadows in that alley stage are sick.
I love CvS those games were great back in the days from the 90's era. I still love Dreamcast.
Michael Patrick The Capcom vs SNK series was in the early 2000s.
Is it just me or does this game seem better then the second game. I played 2 but not 1 so maybe I'm wrong.
The stages and the music were so sick in this CvS,, holly jezuz
I think I remember playing this game when I was younger. I believe it was one of the first fighting games I've ever played as a child. Thanks for bringing back old memories, Max.
Two things:
1. Quarters Up is still alive and that's cool
2. The thumbnail's missing Max.
Man, this takes me back! Had many a late night playing this vs. a friend that I lost. Good memories!
19:09 "M. Bison" 20:03 "Vega"
The game got it right in this one.
I completely forgot just how interesting backgrounds could have been, I think only KI and MK have anything interesting to look at now :/
Guilty Gear's backgrounds are also pretty good to look at.
Once again proving that Geese is the biggest badass in any fighting game
Easily my favorite game out of all capcom vs snk, thanks for playing this Max!
Max!!! What ver. of the Game is this? The Japanese or US release? and whats your fight stick set up on the Dreamcast?
240rx7rksti89 This is the PRO ver. which is only released in Japan. His fightstick is custom made.
I love this quarters up series!
and holy shit i always wondered what cvs1 looked like, and god damn its spritework is so nice =]
And when i saw those shadows on the wall i was pretty damn amazed i have to play this game just for that stage for real.
My favorite version of Iori's laugh is in the CVS games. That wheeze he let's out right before each exhale makes it feel the most real.
I dont care what anyone might say:
Imo, Capcom Vs SNK 1 was more enjoyable than the second one.
Hm hm hm...
Ha ha ha...
*HA HA HA HA HA HA!*
is there fight sticks for dreamcast? or is it max playing on pc with a fight stick?
There are sticks for the Dreamcast but I think that they are pretty rare.
awesome, didn't knew it😂😂.. thanks 😉
yep i.ytimg.com/vi/Qn8DNjUPxH0/maxresdefault.jpg
I could swear Max either talked or showed his at some point.
Theres pretty much arcade sticks for every system and if not you can always make your own pretty easy
TVindustries5000 lol, cool thanks 😊
God, that Final Fight stage is so sick. The music, the shadows, everything.
Yes there is a special Akuma final boss. There is also a special sub boss (Morrigan or Nakoruru) you can get as well.
I remember accidentally opening Morrigan's stage. It's the one with the weird clock?
Well yeah, Link, Demitri, and Joe Higashi are all voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama, so that's why they sound the same.
This was my jam! Thanks for taking me back. Great vid.
I still have and play this game on PS1 and Dreamcast every once in a while. I love this game!!!!!!!!!! Great video, as usual, Max.
When max slams on the classics I love it! It's my favourite content of his.
SNK artwork has them proprerly proportioned. Aka a 150lb fighter doesn't look abput 250.
Did you encounter in this stage when Bison is about to take of his robe, and Akuma just kills him from behind? Then you fight Akuma in fact. That was just printed in my favourite memories of this game forever. Great game!
I always wondered what's the Groove points about?
Mostly to show how good you are. You get points based on combos, using super finishers and utilizing the advantages of the groove you chose. I clicked on this video just to see the UI. First few seconds I hear MAX approving of it as well. It is really that cooool
"Shake well before serving. Come on, wake up."
I'll never understand why this was added into the game.
Oh gosh, I loved this game so much when I was a kid. This and CvS2 were my all time favorite fighting games. Those were golden days!
Capcom vs SNK(series) in my book are the best crossover game ever
The stages in this game were some of the best that Capcom ever made. Artistically it's probably the best they've made IMHO. For aesthetics alone I like it over CvS2.
17:30 That's because Joe's voice is Link's too. Nobuyuki Hiyama.
It would had been fitting if Max had chosen ken to fight Terry so that ken would had gotten his revenge from losing to Terry at Death Battle.
By the way, could some one explain me to what level system in this game is based on and how it works?
It would have been interesting to see Max on Geese's route instead.
What determines the route in this game?
I have no idea, I think that is random, I tried a lot of stuff since the game's release but I still can't figure out a way to trigger a specific boss stage.
If you select a SNK character first you fight Bison
If you select a Capcom character first you fight Geese
Max picked Joe and Geese first on his teams so he would fight Bison
That makes sense. Thanks!
When you got to Bison's stage it was fun to watch your inputs going up live on the top left corner of the computer readout screen. Such a fun feature =)
Hey Max D.? Is the the year on the image of the Quarter, the same year of your birth?
after images on all the jumping animations are so dope
3x quarters. But you would've gotten the poopoo ending. There are 2 real bosses. That takes place on a awesome rainy Japanese rooftop with lightning at night time. Really liking those stage intro's =)
In the stage when you fought Terry and Guile. could you say that Edge from Rival Schools was one of the three guys sitting down?
That capcom drawn orochi iori picture is so dope man, still love it till this day
The entire CVS/SVC Versus needs to be re released, real talk. I remember teaching the local gamestop guy Kim Kaphwan and he was so amazed, the game was just so cool
11:48 And this is why you can't taunt to Max, folks. He'll pwn you in a matter of few seconds.

2D Fighters >
definitely have to dp on hardest difficulty boss rage.
Slow downs are on purpose. They were critical hit moments like counters or dizzy moments coming.
This old game still rocks at my local arcade. While I'm glad someone bought my used KOF XIV copy and I got most my money back.
Wow Max thanks for playing this. I never saw CvS 1 before. Soon as I finished watching I downloaded a copy for NullDC. Just beat the arcade mode first try with Ken and Terry. Can't stand these awkward ass sprites. Some look like shit and some look really good but then there's Morrigan.
3:40
Oh, so that's where the japanese table laugh from Botchamania is from.
I remember using mugen back in the day. I used the stage in 5.20min as Ken's background and put Oasis - f*cking in the bushes as the sound track. So Epic!

I consider this better than the 2nd one. Also the stages are Sick. Some of the best ever!
I loved CvS 1 because you can play with classic stage musics
That Geese Bison moment was siiick af
I wished Capcom used this kind of UI because i feel it is more stylish and clean than CVS2 imo.
Kinda wanted a re-make of CVS1 with CVS2 rooster -and extra characters like Leona, like why the hell she haven't included yet, or any other games that is not fighting from both company, like Jill from Resident Evil or any Metal Slug characters.-

One of the best fighting games ever made
As much as I love burning Osaka and of course Johnny Beer in CvS2, the backgrounds in this game are on point.
