Thanks for making this - I've been watching various dovetail tutorials and they've all been super technical and didn't do a good job of covering the basics.
Bingo! Your video helped me resolve my problem in the first 1 minute 13 seconds where you point out that the instead of a 1/2” router template guide you should use the 7/16 (on the Harbor Freight jig). As soon as I made that change, everything worked perfectly. Thanks!
Your blowout might have also been the horizontal lock bowing bcz you didn't have a board on right. If you move the sacrifice board all the way to the right, you may not need to sacrifice. Also, one guy stressed doing the initial width swipe from right to left. Said that saved rough ends because of bit rotation.
Thanks man I have to build 16 drawer boxes for a job but it’s been a year since I’ve used dove tails I’m also looking at the harbor freight set up since last time I used the 250$ porter cable it was too fragile but 40$ harbor fright ain’t bad to learn from 💪🏼
Brilliant!! I bought this exact jig off marketplace and have been struggling to work out how to use it. I was missing the bit that goes on the bottom of the router to fit the jig!
Yeah - hand routers (prob big ones too) don't always have nice guide mounting. Mine has a hole without a locking or leveling bracket. Luckily, the hole is tight enough to work now, but I can see that will eventually not be the case.
Very good and informative video thank you, just what I needed. I have the same jig but with a different name on it, could i check one thing with you please? The surface the horizontal board lays on (the top surface) is yours flat? as mine is not and it causes the board to rock when clamping down and i'm sure that's not correct.😥
Great job. I have one of those that I got from a relative and worked with it for several hours and couldn't get it to work like I wanted. Did you try a through dovetail?
I'm not sure I have your patience, but your enthusiasm is infectious. Thanks for the video.

Perfect, thanks man. I wish I had this video along time ago.
Thanks for doing this! Super helpful to see your trials and understand the process.
