    Unbalanced force is along direction of gravity, but here why equal and opposite forces perpendicular to it is considered

    Why it can happen only if we take only small mass

      If we take a large mass, its weight will be more than the force of surface tension, so it sinks.

    But when a peice of paper is kept it absorbs the surface water will it break the surface tension then

      Hi Aryan,
      Yes, as the piece of paper absorbs the water, its surface tension changes. That's why after some time, the paper sinks in.
