...or at lest tape them from outside so there's less or no water coming in, until replacing them, which should have happened months ago. Kind of strange way of doing things to be honest. Could have lived upstairs after basic cleaning.
They have to demolish around all the windows including any previous renders, rebuild lintels, sills, etc. I'm sure it's a huge undertaking. I think their priority is getting a downstairs kitchen and living room finished. 😊

Just catching up on more videos. Really useful info on properties and land. 1. So now I know you cannot demolish a building, legal or not, without permission and you have to have a builder (no self build). 2. Rustic land without buildings may still be possible to build up to 200 m sq, again using a builder. I did think about buying a prefab wooden house to put on the plot (20k to 50k euros) so would need to see if that would comply. 3. All permissions could take 1 to 2 years so in most cases really only buying a existing house is viable and renovating it yourself.
Went through the same some years ago - trying to fix a house that was fully loaded with my crap... slowed me down completely and super annoying having limited access to the house AND my stuff... Solution = dual-shipping-container-workshoppy. Get 2 x 40 feet shipping containers set them up parallel with a 10meter gap, then build a roof over the lot to keep the harsh sun away = you have a lovely outdoor workshop + all you stuff is in a secure, dry storage (rodent free). A great lock-n-go option as the container doors are extremely secure. Probably the most usefully items I ever purchased. It has many extra uses, like temp parking lot when needed (hail storms, holidays, friends visiting etc etc), great BBQ spot in the rainy season, drying place for garden produce, you can extend the roof(s) on the outside of the containers for additional semi-dry storage for wood, more parking, etc etc - endless possibilities and not super expensive.

@@MAKEDOGROW Have you considered a temp building in the garden (or local storage space in an empty trade premises) for storing the long term store stuff to leave rooms clear to be able to work on them more easily?
@@MAKEDOGROW Yeah we packed most of our stuff into storage last summer so we could have our rewire and central heating done but now are back to living in chaos where we move things room to room 😂 hoping to have our bedrooms finished this year if nothing else 🤞
Love this series but I must admit I’m not a fan of your current plans. 1. The priority should be fixing those windows as a cold front is coming. The continued moisture will destroy your hard work. 2. Your bedroom should be in the loft area. Use an outbuilding or build a new structure for a craft space. 3. Open up the main floor to include a small guest bedroom and bathroom. Have a built-in shelf in the bedroom that allows you to hide a murphy bed. Which makes it Guy’s video editing space. All other walls should be removed. This will allow you to place the stairs in a better position and have a lot more usable space and a large open area for entertaining.
Kylie you can't just brush past the fact you got a massive box of yarn for Christmas! We need an unboxing video!! 😍 and sneak peaks of what you've been knitting/crocheting please 🤩
@MAKE. DO. GROW. omg they're incredible!! 😍 maybe you need a side chanel 🤣 out of curiosity do you order your yarn from Portuguese websites? We're moving to Galicia in the next month or so and have been looking where to get my fix from 🙈
I was saying, oh no, there’s more.....then you mentioned the loft. THE LOFT is the coolest space of your house, not temperature wise of course, but I remember being blown away by the space, it looked huge! I started watching way back then, I’m happy you’re going to share it again.
It will be really nice up there. We’d expose the old wooden beams, lighten up the space and add lots of storage in the eves. We just need to find someone who’s willing to redo the roof (adding a membrane and insulation and retiling) so we can convert it 😀
I'm already thrilled to have found your channel! You are so brave to have taken on this property, and I admire your courage. Your life is like a nine piece puzzle except you have all nine pieces! (I feel much happier with the state of our studio and workshop after watching your tour)
Would it be possible to take down the wall between the current kitchen and the room where the stairs will be? That way you could have a big open room with lots of light. But, with the structure of your house being stone that may not be possible. I look forward to following all of your progress!!
Nice to come across your new channel. We used to watch eco & beyond and enjoyed your journey in that. Now we can pop in here and see how things are going. Nice to catch up. Wishing you all the best with your big plans for this year! 😃
This reminds me so much of situations I have found myself in over the years of renovating multiple houses. My two sons have grown up and survived. They are both sworn off doing this themselves 😂 My heart goes out to you, as I sit in my cold house in France. We must all be optimists 😂
When you live in a farm like this the work will never stop, and that is a good thing, it makes you feel alive. As long as they are having a good time doing it then there is never too old.
Really enjoyed all the videos. Such a lovely house and plot you ended up with. House will look amazing when finished. I'm now planning to retire early this year, use the lump sum to buy a house near Alcoutim (cheaper than Vial Real de Santo Antonio) and rent my UK house as extra income. I like the idea of being able to pop over to Spain 🙂
So glad to see your projects for the upstair. I discovered you when you cleaned the water tanks in your garden to make a "pool". Far too col as I remember 😅 Can't wait to see the archives. And you've come such a long way already ! It had been a long time since we had seen the glorious pink bathroom 😆 The snug room is such a cool project ! As a crocheter myself I can totally picture it 😍 The positive thing I can see in all your projects and works-to-be-done is I have many years of your videos in the future 😁
Funny you mention extension cords. We have to run 300 feet of extension cords to run our lights. It will not run a circular saw though without the lights going out. =)
I may have said something similar before and, with no criticism intended, you have set yourselves a huge challenge to convert a traditional farmhouse with shallow foundations and a single level living area deliberately raised way above ground level whilst the space beneath is used for other reasons into a two storey accommodation. It was built that way for a reason and is very common in Portugal especially amongst certain land owning classes. I wish you well and every success.
Would you wanna live in a house where you couldn't get from upstairs to down and visa versa? It's better someone actually turn it into a comfortable home than it continuing to decay and sit empty.
Wondering why you don't replace the windows first so that you can get some air in the place. Also, I thought there was a chimney - so why can't you fit a wood burning stove with a new chimney / flue, then the damp might dissipate ?
With all the water that finds its way in, I'm surprised that none of it leaks downstairs! I know that this may be your "forever house", but I hope it doesn't take forever for you to finish it as planned.
Living in a tent isn`t easy especially during the wet, cold, winter stormy weather. I think you guys needed to replace the front door and make sure the house is weather tight. Having a budget set aside to pay workmen to fast track at least one bedroom & bathroom would make more sense than living in the freezing cold. Just my two cents.
Wow! Followed you from day one on the first channel, remember all the work done, but didn’t realize how packed the house is with stuff..!😅 Must be a thing to move it around from room to room once you need to work in there😮 Years of me watching you work assured 😂
I guess my only question was why did you choose to clear the land and do the planting and chickens first then tackle the house. I thought you would get the main room like kitchen, bedroom and living rooms done then deal with outside. It’s not an issue for me I just wondered what made you choose that order.
We started on the house 2 years ago, but getting even one room done isn’t that simple. We do all the other work because building work is hard, physical and monotonous … we want to enjoy life while we also rebuild
Why start making wine when you still sleep in a construction site? I get the DIY and relaxed approach but this bathroom and sleeping accommodation would be my priority before I start making wine and grow mushrooms.

Still a lot to correct and improve.. time enough to do.. good luck.. 😮😮
Love, love, love watching you both as you progress through your renovation project. Sometimes I wish I could be there and help, at least a little. 😄😄
Kylie, one can never, ever have too much yarn. I have just under 400 sq. ft. exterior measurements, still in progress **but** boxes and bags of yarn all over the place. Oh, except where I walk. LOL
Keep up the great job.
Impressed with how you got that bed in there - and how you're gonna get it out ahahha
Quite a lot left to do !!!!!! ❤❤
You two certainly have the vision thing down---along with the patience, perseverance, and mad skills to bring your vision to fruition. Thank you for allowing us to tag along on for this incredible adventure. Cheers, Ardith
Great video guys. I know the weather hasn't been great as of late and winter is cold, wet and sometimes miserable.. But wine 🤣
Hopefully see you both soon 👍
Wine definitely solves everything.
Happy to see a week of sun (though very cold overnights) ahead 🥶 ☀️
@@MAKEDOGROW Have you considered a temp building in the garden (or local storage space in an empty trade premises) for storing the long term store stuff to leave rooms clear to be able to work on them more easily?
We are currently renovating our house in UK that we are living in... It's so comforting to watch your videos and be in the same boat as you both 😊
We’ve done three previous build where we tried to live in one room of the property. It’s not fun … and the furniture jenga is just next level 😂
@@MAKEDOGROW Yeah we packed most of our stuff into storage last summer so we could have our rewire and central heating done but now are back to living in chaos where we move things room to room 😂 hoping to have our bedrooms finished this year if nothing else 🤞

Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟.
Aren’t you glad it’s not your house 😂
Good thing they can do what they want.
Thank you for this video.
Kylie you can't just brush past the fact you got a massive box of yarn for Christmas! We need an unboxing video!! 😍 and sneak peaks of what you've been knitting/crocheting please 🤩
😂🤣 there’s a pic on Insta/FB of my most recently completed project. That’s where I’ll tend to share stuff as it doesn’t really fit into our videos
@MAKE. DO. GROW. omg they're incredible!! 😍 maybe you need a side chanel 🤣 out of curiosity do you order your yarn from Portuguese websites? We're moving to Galicia in the next month or so and have been looking where to get my fix from 🙈
@@emmaclarke8331 yes, yarn from Portugal!
Check out welcomeyarn.pt
I have some experience in starting from scratch, so I understand all the frustration, exhaustion, pride, and joy at every task. From what I've seen, you are doing splendid so don't give up. You are a wonderful couple and I am so excited to see all the adventures you are involved in. Many blessings are going your way from me, for sure. Janice from Arkansas USA
Love the bathroom . . . you could start a new trend.
Maybe bathroom wine could become a thing 😃
Your life is like a nine piece puzzle except you have all nine pieces! (I feel much happier with the state of our studio and workshop after watching your tour)
It is going to be beautiful and I will follow you all the way as you will allow. Hang in there! xoxoxo
Would it be possible to take down the wall between the current kitchen and the room where the stairs will be? That way you could have a big open room with lots of light. But, with the structure of your house being stone that may not be possible. I look forward to following all of your progress!!
try a space heater for warmth and cooking
The property looks amazing, form the day you purchased it ..untill now Great job guys keep up the awesome work .
I admire everything you do. Keep up the great work and enjoy.
a lot of work, but still high spirits.
you 2 are really awsome
Make sense!!!
Thanks for the great video.
Make sure you finish before you get too old lol as life changes but you got lots of time and the tent is a lovely place. Thanks for the tour.
How old is too old?
When you live in a farm like this the work will never stop, and that is a good thing, it makes you feel alive. As long as they are having a good time doing it then there is never too old.
@@MAKEDOGROW Too old is when your mind goes to work without your body lol Cheers
@@Gelliny Exactly! Our70+ year old neighbours were recently up on their roof retiling it. Seems we have many years left 😂
@@offgridwanabe That's the best definition of 'old age' I've ever read. It will be put to good use!
Love your hair Kylie👍
Love your plans. Will be amazing! Best wishes to you. I admire
6:23 great choise btw :)
As a crocheter myself I can totally picture it 😍
The positive thing I can see in all your projects and works-to-be-done is I have many years of your videos in the future 😁
Funny you mention extension cords. We have to run 300 feet of extension cords to run our lights. It will not run a circular saw though without the lights going out. =)
I would get the yarn you bought out of the damp musty room!
I’ve checked on it, it’s fine 😃
How long is your hair Kylie!!!!! I can't wait to see your creative space ❤️
It’s not a lot of water, but many entrance points. Towels are able to soak all of it up before it causes any damage
You’re assuming trades people are available. There’s a reason we’re doing all the work ourselves (and it’s nothing to do with budget)
Wow! Followed you from day one on the first channel, remember all the work done, but didn’t realize how packed the house is with stuff..!😅 Must be a thing to move it around from room to room once you need to work in there😮 Years of me watching you work assured 😂
Yeah, lots of stuff. It’s the perpetual jigsaw puzzle 😃
Many years ahead for sure!
First channel?
I guess my only question was why did you choose to clear the land and do the planting and chickens first then tackle the house. I thought you would get the main room like kitchen, bedroom and living rooms done then deal with outside. It’s not an issue for me I just wondered what made you choose that order.
We started on the house 2 years ago, but getting even one room done isn’t that simple.
We do all the other work because building work is hard, physical and monotonous … we want to enjoy life while we also rebuild
In the previous video you mentioned a heatpump. Are you also considering floor heating?
Why start making wine when you still sleep in a construction site? I get the DIY and relaxed approach but this bathroom and sleeping accommodation would be my priority before I start making wine and grow mushrooms.
Duh! Because they want to! They have to have some enjoyment in life and a break from constantly working!
