  • We head to Goodwin Orchids in Leesburg, Florida where we meet with owner Donna Goodwin. They specialize in Vandas Orchids, but you can find also other species. Their plants are brought from Thailand, and they are always blooming and beautiful. Donna explains how to grow and take care of them. We purchase three lovely plants to add to our growing collection of orchids, over 100 plants.

Agreed. Very nice people. Donna is so knowledgeable and sweet. We love the place. As a matter of fact, we heard from OFE Orchid Supply that they are the best vanda growers. Thanks so much for watching.

Vicky, I don’t know about ofe . I know he is always hosting shows. But I never seen his vandas in his store. Nature nels and other girls has you tube channels never showed Vanda . I am very picky when it comes to plants and nurseries. They are look good on you tube . Then when you visited their nursery , is not what it looks like . It’s so disappointing. Like smily garden nursery. I was there because someone taking videos and posted in you tube. When I get there is not what it look likes in the picture. It’s over crowded plants and overwhelming. It’s hard to maneuver.

@@vickyslikes great video's both of them, thanks. I preferred Goodwin's. Everything is automated, regulated, treated and kept clean. Smiley's in my eyes is quite the opposite. No pest treatments, things growing all over. I know Smiley has a lot of rare orchids but the Vanda's at Goodwin's are so strong and vigorous. Their vigorous care routine, including quarantining new arrivals for at least 6 weeks are all so important to have a strong collection. I felt like smiley didn't place much care on that, mixing all her plants and ignoring pests. It's very different growing approaches. One is more traditional and organic. The other places more emphasis on separating the weak from the strong plants and trying to get them to be the healthiest that can. I have often debated which approach to follow. The traditional way is more relaxing and enjoyable but I am a perfectionist so the traditional way is not for me, especially if we consider how many pests we can get due to importing plants from all over the globe and mixing them all together providing them with perfect breeding environments. In fact that is how I will sum it up, goodwin's was like a chicken farm for orchids, efficient, a well run operation. Smileys was like a bug paradise. Literally any bug arriving at smileys would have the biggest smile on their face, tell all their cousins to fly on over and enjoy their little garden paradise. I know that will come across harsh and I don't want it to but I am a logical thinker, I don't believe in the traditional organic approach and prefer goodwin's way.

recently made a purchase of Vanda orchids from Goodwin Nursery, however, my experience with their customer service left much to be desired. In particular, I encountered difficulties in obtaining product-related information from the representative, Donna. Her lack of responsiveness to my inquiries did not align with the level of service I had expected from the establishment.

We are so sorry you had that experience. They've always been very kind to us. Thanks for watching and making a comment.

I'm just now seeing this. Sorry if I wasn't as responsive as you would like. Were you here in person? I always give out instruction sheets, and I usually walk around the greenhouse with customers answering any questions you might have. And I'm more than the representative, I'm the co-owner. Please visit again sometime.
