Everyone goes through trauma and stuff, but at some point you have to find a way to grieve and cope with the feeling that she’ll never come back. Thats maturing and dealing with the horrible circumstances you were given. Giving her trauma wasn’t bad, it was the fact that she had to keep bringing it up instead of just showing it through her actions and letting the viewers see how she carries herself as a result of the experience.

I absolutely love firebending in live-action. Not just from visual standpoint but it's legit terrifying. In the original due to Nickelodeon restrictions we always hear about how destructive fire is but we never see it. Netflix untied the creators hands and as a result we see the air nomad genocide, the death of Katara's mom and many more scenes that make fire benders way more terrifying. I iamgine how haunting it would've been for Katara to watch her mother being killed in such a horrifying way.

They aren't Toxic fans. They point out the flaws and how the Netflix Version is Inferior to the Animated version while being only one hour Shorter than Season 1 Avatar in runtime. And the Netflix Version managed to Cut down Katara's Character from the Round character she was in the Animated version. While having everything explained instead of respecting the Audience intelligence

It's more a different sort of narration, cause even in the case Katara would say nothing and let her mother did, it would have gone the same, she was going to be killed and of course Katara have culpability like all people during terrible events, Aang have also feel guilt for being gone of the temple, it doesn't mean that it was his fault, even Gyatso, said it, even if Aang was there it would have make the plan of the fire nation, easier. Plus this scene is a scene where a spirit is kind of torturing a little child with nightmares creating guilt in her, so it's appropriate, and after all THIS IS A WAR, of course Kya was going to die in a fucked up way, and that people have culpability for not saving loved ones.
It's not her fault. Yon Rha was gonna kill Kya and later search the house either way. He literally said he would do it. Katara had no other choice other than try and use waterbending to stop him. Her failure to do so could've an interesting plot point what would explain why Katara wanted to master waterbending to fight so bad. So she would be able to protect those she loves and never again be helpless scared little girl like she was that day. Unfortunately, the writing team didn't really handle it well. It's a cool concept but it was not executed well

I just wished they didn't do the full backstory. The full reveal that her mother was protecting her as the last water bender n the north is more powerful if told in the southern raiders episode.
I'm glad they did it this way. Here Katara knows from the start her mother sacrificed herself for her daughter, which makes her selfless nature feel like living up to her mother's example and feel less forced than in the cartoon, and the firebender seems to be killing her in self-defense as opposed to sheer sadism like in the cartoon. They really are making the characters feel less 1 dimensional than in the cartoon which makes sense, because in a cartoon aimed at kids good and bad need to be simple so the kids get it. For teenagers who've experienced, and are still experiencing, and are yet to experience life's complexity, you gotta give them characters who are complicated and whose behaviour have believable origins or they're hard to relate to.
They're doing things differently. A lot of things unfortunately. My guess is to add depth to the story as they go. They showed more on the attack on the air temples too which wasn't in the original show apart from what was left to imagination. Katara's mother actually being killed wasn't shown either in the show like at all. But they have to revamp stuff to make it original in its own way and to catch people's attention. I honestly am not that impressed with it. Especially Katara's actor. She just doesn't really move like a waterbender to me and her movements show lack of practice honestly on top of her lack of aggression cause Karara was aggressive to an extent in the original show. Just one too many changes for me that takes away what really made the show eye catching along with the characters that gave them depth and story arcs.

By taking away Sakka's sexism, he no longer has a lesson to learn on kyoshi Island so instead the kyoshi warriors only exist to boost Sakka's ego now. In the original series, he always had the potential to be a capable leader, however it was his arrogance that prevented it, which is a lesson he learned through the series. In this version Sakka already is that capable leader however he has a lack of confidence which is the complete opposite problem he had in the original series. A lot of Katara's agency was taken away as well, they rounded off her edges and made it so that she now only makes decisions when they suit the men of the group, which I do not like. in trying to remove sexism from the series they ironically made it seemingly more sexist. I do not necessarily think all the changes they made are bad. However, I do think that they miss the point of the original series by taking away stuff like the war in Ba Sing Sae they end up taking away integral parts to character stories, for example, that war is absolutely integral to Iroh's story as it is the war he lost his son in. It is at this point you have to ask is the content they are replacing the original content with better? Does it actually flush out the story in an interesting way? Is the new direction they're taking meaningful? And ultimately, I think most of it is not nearly as meaningful as the original series. I only recently got into the animated avatar so I do not hold "nostalgia" for it as such, all my points are being made off the basis of the writing and storytelling alone. While I think the live-action version is serviceable and there are some interesting elements in it. I do not think it's a good adaptation in the sense that it doesn't seem to want to be an adaptation. It seems to want to be its own story existing within the same world and using the same characters but going in a different direction.

It seems as though they're going all the safest roads for storytelling and not actually doing something interesting with the new content they are adding. As I have already stated, it seems as though they are less interested in making it adaptation and just making their own story using the same characters and world which does make the marketing very misleading. @@91AizenSama I agree yeah. But this is something I actually like about it. Not just for gore or edginess. I like Katara actually seeing her mother being killed, it makes it even more tragic than the original, and it makes being more haunted by it than Sokka more understandable
