New RV Steps

  • After using our side entry Truck Camper for over 5 years, it had become clear that new entry steps were needed. The original steps worked great when the camper was off the truck and lowered down, however, when the camper was on the truck, and higher, the steps were always too high necessitating an additional step be used to bridge the gap. To rectify this problem, I built a new set of longer steps to be used when the camper is on the truck and the original steps for when the camper is off the truck. Another goal was to make a new set of steps that was height adjustable, and fold-able for storage when traveling.

You are an incredible craftsman Charles and the video quality is first rate also. Everything about this video is professional. I'm so impressed. I've never liked the conventional scissor-step concept used on most rear entry truck campers. The steps are narrow and in most cases, a bit wobbly. We use a 3 step Little Giant folding ladder (same 9 inch steps) which fits our camper perfectly without any modification and at it's current Amazon price of $81 is much cheaper than the Glo-Step products. Since it doesn't attach directly to the camper it can be moved around the truck and used to access areas high on the camper for servicing (fridge compartment for example) and also allow easy (and safer) access to the roof ladder. Since it doesn't attach, it's super easy to set up and remove. I use a cable lock (when needed) to secure it to the truck so it doesn't walk off while we're sleeping in a rest area or parking lot. I removed the entire back seat in our Ram 2500 so the entire area is used for storage and there's plenty of room for the Little Giant. Love your videos :-)

Thst camper is already over the payload capacity of your truck.
Why keep adding weight. Camco makes a nice step platform that would weigh a hell of a lot less

Excellent Job. What is the height of that top step?
