Making a book safe

  • What is it about book safes that make them so cool? This one I have made with neodymium magnet closures and purple flocking on the interior. It turned out pretty good in the end but there were a number of issues along the way that gave me a few ideas on how to do the next one better, so expect a follow up with the new technique at some point in the future. Let me know what you think in the comments below, thanks for watching!

    That bonus build, waaaaaaaaaay better than scrounging the trash for scraps of cardboard to mix glue.

      but, toiletpaper is made to dissolve in water, not pages in a book. (Risk of clogging up the pipes)
      (Would work in an outhouse though)

    Great video! Best way to do this safe among others I've watched. I specially like the part cutting the pages with the saw.. . Instead of like others using a box cutter cutting page by page, it's way faster and better (I would not have the patience to cut page by page). Ah! Also the cat..LOL!!

    I still have a childhood book safe that I ordered from the back of a comic book entitled, "the principles of economics". It actually has a combo dial!

    Are those headless pin nails you used? And why 2 layers of wood paneling on one side?

    How can the blade on your scroll saw be so long? Is the scroll saw modified? What type of blade is it?

    Were you mic-ing the toilet with a hydrophone, or is it just the world's loudest toilet?

    Hello sir! You know sometimes wood gets fungi! how to remove it? is there a professional way?

    • @FrontierlessCraftsman
      @FrontierlessCraftsman  7 лет назад

      If its on the surface, standard cleaning products. if its in the wood itself you can kill it but not remove it.

    In all honesty, you shouldn't've flocked it...made a mess as you said, and didn't look good anyway. Should've left the black on the bottom, and the book pages in between.

    OMG I am laughing my butt off. I watched another video where a woman, using mod podge and an Exacto knife makes her book safe. Then I watch this one where a guy is pulling out the power tools. Luckily I am quite adept at using "men's" tools and I think your way is quicker. But, I can't stop laughing at how different the approaches are.

      Cutting the pages with an exacto blade isn't really a terrible way to do it. You can can like 40ish pages at a time. If you don't have power tools, it's a pretty easy way to do it.
