I have been making paddles for our canoes since about 1993, but am humbled to admit I learnt a lot watching this! Hard to take in that this was your first paddle ever.. wow, I am so impressed
Really enjoyed the video, well edited showing all the stages and tools. I haven't a bandsaw and can't get a blank so I think laminating the paddle is probably best. It realy makes a difference when people share
Very entertaining and beautiful paddle, I really loved the soundtrack, I'll prolly jam some guitar solos over it in the near future. Thanks fur sharing.
Well done. You are a good woodworker. I envy you guys who have lakes and rivers. I am from South Africa. One question though, for rowing what is the optimum ratio of length to width of the blade? Are there scientific results?
Depends what you are doing. Longer and thinner blades are better for long distance, shorter and wider blades are better for shallow water and going quick with a higher stroke rate
Try hemp oil or Tung/Teak oil. Linseed oil needs wood preservative as well to prevent rot. Badger Paddles sells a super hemp oil for paddle treatment. Added bonus over varnish of being much easier on the hands.
No, it's not in the least. He put a link to the music in the description, though. Track available, but it's a remix of something - not full details. Anyone?
Make the paddle like a spoon shape so it pushes more water. Curve the handle for more power This old style not cutting it no more! > Know how much energy is lost by not doing this? LOTS.! Its the 21 Century! Time for changes NICE JOB THO to bad didn't spoon it and curve it .
@@janviljoen7001 he hee i try to use a trolling motor if i can myself. depends on size of your boat Normal about 2 foot long blade. Width depends on how strong you are . I like 18" wide> remember the paddle is spooned to catch more water as it pushes the handle is slightly bent to the spoon side for power strokes
If you are paddling a long way or just casually, having a less powerful, more flexible blade will be much better, and kinder on joints. Also if you soon it it isn't symmetrical on the back and front, which you need for some strokes.
@UC7dTIYmAcC4odasVuikHWnw no lol your wrong. Spooned paddles are for racing only. Bad for everything else, and negatively effect steering. What you can do as a half way is have the blade slightly forward offset from the shaft, but you still have symmetry issues with that
@@jamesshort6856 i agree Time to change the paddle, You want as much energy as you can get out of a paddle, and less work, and you want them to be light

I like the way you are very safe with the table saw . You use a separate piece of wood to push it through . GOOD ! That's the safe way to work .

Thanks, glad its a help for you
:)
Compliments from Canada. Looks like you are on your way to being a proper voyageur. That shave horse you made came in handy.
There's method in the madness....somewhere haha Many thanks would love to get lost in your wilderness for a couple of months, aaaahh someday ;)
Great use of scraps. You can spend a lot of time on this process, but it's great therapy. Liked how you dated this video with a World event @ 9:00.
Lovely paddle, great video and I like the cooper's mare...
Showoff! ...nothing beats perfection, if you're into that sort of thing, LOL! :) Beautiful work.

Love the finish with all the different layers of wood - practical and beautiful!
Great job - trust it will be a good working paddle.
Beautiful work !!! Best regards from Germany Heiko (boat builder)
Frontierless the paddle came out great thank you for sharing i really enjoyed the whole build process, all the best to you and yours
Thanks Ron much appreciated!
Dude this thing looks absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work, thumbs up!
Thanking you sir!
Wow fantastic. Well done. I love the colours of it.
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching
The paddle turned out beautiful! Nice job.
Нормуль смастерил, есть что посмотреть. И всегда умиляет обилие станков и инструмента, даже конь-педальный наличиствует.... И как я без них,👍
Sweet paddle! Love the video.

Looks great.

What about a cordless hand planer?
Very nice job.
Nice, Johnny.

Glad you liked it, more projects on the way for you so, thanks!
nice, excellent job bro. regards from Indonesia. :)
Many thanks!
Looks good laddie boy
Awesome video! At 7:00, what is the name of that type of tool? I imagine its a plane, scraper or even a draw knife of some sort.
It’s a spokeshave
Well done!
nicely done!
real nice job
Good work! How much time you've spent to do it?
Would layer after layer of linseed oil alone make the paddle impervious to water?

Lovely Job....
Kannst du auch mal ein Kajak Paddel machen ?
Damn He making wood samiches with glue !!! Yum yum !!!
Put a clamp or a couple drywall screws on that dancing scroll saw!
Hi can I ask what Hand Held Metal Detector you are using thanks
What glue did you use?
Great looking paddle! How did it work out in the water?
Paddles lovely a little heavier than it could have been but not a problem ie not as heavy as my cheap aluminium & plastic paddle
Hi Guys! Some guy says, the song in the background is from Battlefield 2...?! Not for me when I google it, so... what is it really? Thanks!
I'm scrolling looking for the music before I even finish watching the vid. Must find.
Great job thanks for posting. Cool music too. What canoe did you buy?
Beautiful job!
Can I ask you what type of glue are you using?
Looks like PVA. If so, that's the only flaw. PVA is water soluble. There are good marine grade glues that are perfect for this kind of use.
Voll cool ich baue eins in der Schule, ist eine echt gute Beschreibung 😁
👍
What is this clue?
this is the BATTLEFIELD 2 theme music!!! gosh i spent the whole video trying to figure it out!
No, it's not in the least. He put a link to the music in the description, though. Track available, but it's a remix of something - not full details. Anyone?
Hemp seed oil that is all .....

Very very annoying music 🤷🏻♂️
Nice work. What type of wood was used for the project?
