    What many people do to make it even better: find a beautiful page inside the book (say something with a nice picture or drawing) and cut it out completely. Use cling wrap on the hard covers so the pages don't get glued to the covers. Then proceed as in this video. Finally, remove the saran wrap, glue the nice page to the back cover and glue the hollow part to that. Makes the inside of the book a lot more appealing.

    It's good to throw in a non-electronic project once in a while. I like this one. You know, a hollowed-out book was a pivotal part of the movie Shawshank Redemption. (I won't provide spoilers though!)

    Y'all should do some Raspberry Pi projects. It's something I have been wanting to do myself and maybe you could give some of the basics for a cool project.

    Wouldn't a Dremel Oscillating tool work great for cutting out the book? It shouldn't get as hot as the cutting wheel and should cut a nice sharp corner.

    Please do a DIY Bluetooth/Battery powered portable speaker. Maybe in a nice wooden box, with a carrying handle, and some quality parts from Parts Express. Glad to see Patrick making stuff again.

    Use a dark binding and I bet you could easily add a spot for a pinhole camera and use the book for surveillance. Maybe a nanny cam.

    perhaps, you could have gone further and added a circuit that gives a little shock when the book is opened!....
    By the way this is very good and useful... Above all, it always brings joy to all craft lovers like me. :)

    Has anyone tried this with a book with gold leaf pages? Will the glue still absorb into the pages with the leaf?

  • @slicedpage

    Using a circular saw is not a good idea for many reasons, the best saw is a fret saw that cuts in straight lines. I have been making book art for years slicedpage dot com and using such a saw is safer and more accurate. Cutting by hand is drudgery,painful and can lead to alcoholism as well as throwing the project at the nearest wall.LOL Thanks for the fun video guys, now you next project has to be hollowing out bricks. Another great Christmas gift. Build a collection,build a home !

    • @Dreded1000
      @Dreded1000 10 лет назад

      i was thinking if you used a book with a coiled ring spin rather than a glued spine so you could layout the pages flat without the covers near them and use the circular saw to cut once from the bottom and once from the top... only issue is that you could only make cuts the exact length of your circular saw diameter. or on a thinner book you could adjust the depth to make shorter cuts.

    • @Dreded1000
      @Dreded1000 10 лет назад

      Dreded1000 another way that would work well is to dip the book so all the pages are glued solid and then use a router to do the cutting

    • @slicedpage
      @slicedpage 10 лет назад

      Dreded1000 Gluing would work,making the book a solid as you said,trouble is,gluing all those pages is almost impossible without distortion,believe me I tried it. Anyhoo...now that we have 3d printers this method of making a hollowed out book may become obsolete when we make them from injected wood pulp.

    They have much smaller circular saws that might work better than the full sized one. Just be careful that you don't cut up a book that is worth some money

    @FurrBear buy a second book of one that you already have but remove the outer thing / line the outside with paper so it looks like a journal XD
