I'm Kaz, a young farm vet working in Northumberland (but now on sabbatical in New Zealand!), which is in the North East corner of England. I grew up in the city and found myself doing this job by a very happy coincidence.
This channel is an attempt to show my friends, family, and anyone else who cares, what I do on a day-to-day basis. If you have an interest in veterinary medicine, farming, food or the countryside, join me for the ride.
I was always grateful for the prompt arrival of the vet for a backwards presentation whatever the time, not having the confidence or the strength to handle it myself. Didn’t have a jack but a pulley came in handy That breach reminded me of Herriot in Vets Might Fly where the most useful thing he did on the farm where he was billeted, and his war career, was sorting out a breach for the farmer and then confessing that he was a vet afterwards.
We were saying in the office last week how well those books still read.
Brilliant video, glad your back ,I have learnt so much from your videos and I'm not a farmer❤
So glad Sara 😁
I’m so glad that you’re back! I only just subscribed to your channel right before you took a break, so was very happy to see your return. I do like your documentary style and the explanations that fill in the gaps that some farmers either gloss over, or mention but get lost in the moment (as in, long term effects of breach birth on cows/calves). I guess I like learning things that have absolutely nothing to do with my life, 😅 so thank you!
Very welcome Sarah!
Love seeing you in action! Definitely looking forward to seeing your own coo’s 🤍
Next week if I get my act together.
@@farmvetfilms I have faith in you!
That was amazing
Fantastic video - I've paused half way to rest :) this video reminds me to appreciate that I only have to birth goats and sheep - cows are just soooooo mucky
But yep, this is a fantastic format - all the excitement of raw footage with the clarity and extra information of the voice over
Hahaha it’s an emotional journey 🥲
Great video. Thank you. You didn’t consider tubing colostrum to make sure he got enough quickly enough?
You’re absolutely spot on and that was the farmer’s job after I hit the road.
Well done. Another good (impromptu) video.
I do AI and also do 33 days PD test
Great format Kaz, great to see yourself work! 😅
A rare sight!
Great work. Well done!
Not the most fun aspect of farming with cattle is assisted calving! Decades ago had a massive calf stuck in a Simmental heifer. The presentation was okay but we couldn’t get the calf out. The vet attached a leather strop to the font hooves and a chain with blunt hooks to the eye sockets… three grown men still couldn’t move it. The vet made a large incision from the vagina at almost right angles to the anus / vagina line. The heifer was down the entire time and when the calf was removed it was dead…. Took well over two hours to get it out. The heifer survived but was a cull after that. The bull was a Simmental also. Exhausting and not for the squeamish.
Rough as!
I've delivered plenty of breach lambs but never a breach calf. I've 5 cows to calve this year jack available to borrow. Why is the red rope on the right leg a failsafe?
R for red, R for right! So I don’t make a mistake in the heat of the moment!
Whish I could be your intern 🙂
