Continent 'at turning point' as PM pours billions into defence spending

- The UK will spend an additional £75bn on defence over the next six years in an attempt to counter the rising threat from Russia, China and Iran.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said 2.5% of Britain's GDP would be spent on defence, putting the industry on a war footing.
Mr Sunak said the action was needed because authoritarian regimes were acting together to further their interests.

A war footing?😂 Russia is spending double digit amounts. We dont even spend 2% now, thanks to the nuclear deterrent coming out of the defence budget. Which also means we won't spend 2.5% either. Donkey's years from now, when inflation would have eroded spending further as well.

All this handwringing over a .5 to 1% increase in defense spending. At worst it’s a 1 out of a 100 shift to defense. Yet somehow that is some kind of economic shock????

2.5% by 2030... what's that.. .4% ? 75 billion so.. 10 billion a year.. that's.. what 20 planes including crews and bombs and support contracts.. Just wondering... doesn't feel like a strong ally. As for 'as soon as funds allow' ... all we do is spend money we don't have why would we ever have funds if not now. All feels like a weak half assed effort when the forces are so beaten down over the last 40 years.

Sunak sending billions to Ukraine, while Britons cannot keep heat in their houses and have dinner at the same time.
This extra in defence will certainly help those Britons too as new things are needed, new jobs are created, new buildings are built more employees are needed.
