I put one of these together myself. My kit came from Academy Hobby Model Kits. It's made from plastic, and all the parts snap together. Most of the labeling on the box appears to be either Chinese or Korean. I found the assembly and what I learned from it interesting, but I don't think the kit really does justice to the design. On my model, the gears tend to bind with the small hand pointed straight down. I also have to use 8 quarters to get the driving weight to operate the clock reliably (by reliably I don't mean keeping accurate time. Just to keep it running for more than a few seconds.) That being said, I really enjoy this clock, and want to try another. I think one could be built that keeps time to within a few minutes per day, and run for longer than a few minutes at a time, though I would probably have to machine the parts myself. One problem I have is the escapement swing arm tends to wobble a bit, and I think the friction in that mechanism could be reduced, perhaps by putting ball bearings in the bottom of the shaft. I also think, if I add a little weight to the bobs at the end, it would slow the clock down a bit, which right now it runs much too fast. Anyhow, this is an excellent introduction to how clocks work, even if it doesn't work perfectly. If you decide to do this project - enjoy. Note: I'm not telling you not to try, just keep in mind, it's a plastic model, meant as an educational toy and proof of concept, and not an heirloom timepiece.

hey there! Can you explain a little how this works? I understand that the weight spins the gears which spin at different speeds to represent hours and minutes and seconds ect, but why does the top need to spin back and forth? Does it slow the falling of the weight?

I wouldn't be able to get into the theory of his invention as I don't know. You could google how Davinci's Gravity Clock works.

We built it but we can't get it to work. Any advise?

+Traci Ross Sorry Traci, you may want to disassemble it if you can and go back step by step. Also, make sure to sand off or clip off any excess plastic from where you removed it from the injection trees.

Mine runs too fast what's the correct way to slow it down ?

+Mike Ball Not sure, did the manual give any tips? These are't very good at keeping time, more of a novelty.

Mike Ball, to make clock go slower, spread out the weights more on the horizontal beam that rotates back/forth. move the weights back in, nearer to centre, to make clock go faster.

If @@leewmlee 's suggestion doesnt work, lessen the weights.

Much appreciated and thanks for showing it all off for us. The price is very reasonable for what it is.
What I'm really after is a wooden wall example but with hour and minute hands. A guy at www.movinggraphics.ca/Clocks/OtherClocks.html was making them, but he's either not with us any longer, or isn't making any more for sale.

This thing is nice to look at but doesn’t work at all! Even if you could keep it running, it doesn’t keep time. It sits on my kid’s dresser and does nothing!

Same here. Been foolin' with it for a few weeks and came to the conclusion it's a nice idea but it's crap. (The plastic weight appears to be decoration and does absolutely nothing.)
