    I made this new set of wheels for my 2x72 belt grinder because I wasn't satisfied with my old bearings, this time I used 6201 type.
    Whith this project I was also able to try out my brand new set of carbide lathe tools, kindly provided by banggood. Follow the link below if you want to learn more:
    goo.gl/3xrxQb
    They also provided a 10% discount code on eletronics: Elec
    Check out what they have to offer:

    Thanks to all my subscriber for the continued support :)

      Ever considered stripping the fat wheels off a cheap skateboard? Or cutting the axles in half between the wheels.

      Any chance you can post up some dimensions? I plan to build a grinder soon, just don't know what dimensions to give the machine shop for those wheels.

      SKF are very good bearings. We use them on industrial equipment and they hold up for years. Sometimes we create a shell sleeve type washer to cover the bearing seal from harsh abrasive material, which might be good for a belt sander application. But these are good quality bearings in my experience.

    • @jandastroy
      @jandastroy 7 лет назад

      I have seen plastic shelled bearings before too in dirt and weather prone equipment, only ever had to re-grease them. Everything else on the machine though...

    I am planning on making those wheels out of HDPE. Do you think it is a good idea?

    • @BlackBeardProjects
      @BlackBeardProjects  7 лет назад

      Sounds like a lot of work xD If you really are on a budget get some longboard wheel, they come ready to be used with bearing and everything, sure they won't last forever, but either will the hdpe probably :') If you are thinkig about hdpe wheels I suppose you have a lathe right? I guess you can find some cheap aluminum round stock if you look at steel scrap yard! :)

    GOOD STUFF! How come you did not just remove the small bearings from your current wheels and enlarge the holes on the lathe for the new bearing?

    • @BlackBeardProjects
      @BlackBeardProjects  7 лет назад +1

      Thank you brother! :D I did that because my old wheels where my very first lathe project, so not very precise at all... This time I'm sure my wheels are true all around since I turned them on a shaft! At least that's what I hope :')

    • @copasetic216
      @copasetic216 7 лет назад +1

      It's very specific to the application. But a few good rules of thumb for aluminum - fast RPM of the workpiece (lathe) or cutting tool (mill). Aluminum, being softer material, is better to cut with a sharper tool and a more aggressive clearance tool. If you're using indexable carbide, see if you can get a tool with a small nose radius and a chip breaker. The last thing I will say is that in my experience, 9 times out of 10, the reason for chips not breaking is because the feed is too slow. When I first started on the lathe, I fed everything slow. But eventually realized that too slow is just as bad for your tools and parts as too fast. So play with feed rate. And try spinning the aluminum a little faster. Cheers

My nephew made custom parts from aluminum in his workshop in Colorado...without protective gear...first he started having trouble with his memory...and sadly he ended up commuting suicide at 38 years old!!! His autopsy showed that his brain and body had toxic levels of aluminum!!!
    I don't ever want this happening to anyone else!!! God bless you!!!

    Are the wheels just cylinders or is there a crown in them as well? I could probably make this myself if it's just flat cylinders but i have no clue how to turn a crowned pulley precisely on a manual lathe. I dont have digital read out either, just a scale in imperial (I use metric) and lots of run out so its kinda hard to be repetitive.

    • @BlackBeardProjects

      The two front wheels are straight. The tracking wheel has a slight crown to it, I made it using the compound slide on my lathe tool post :)
