That plastic piece on the tailgate is actually to protect the tailgate from rocks that might be on the bumper so you don’t damage the paint.
and don't forget ice build up also , cause that will dent and scratch it too
As a second gen Ram owner myself, I totally get why you are loving it. These trucks, besides the god awful dash, are flippin awesome. Can't wait to see it once you've "finished".
Manuals actually made more power, the autos had smaller p-pumps from the factory to try and save the trans
Yes sir!!!!!
Yeah this guy bugs me. He doesn't know as much as acts like he does and he pretends like he's this crazy subject matter expert when he doesn't know jack
Main reason was because even with the higher horsepower pump the standards still had a slower 0-60 time than the autos
@@mustang8258 That's the sad reality these days. Sounding intelligent can be the same as being intelligent. In reality it's just pretentious dumdums that are basically attempting to fake it til they make it.
EDIT: Now with that being said. The kid has good taste, judging by his truck.
@@keith2860 blame that on gearing and inadequate clutch. The pumps were not detuned.
They were referred to "Dodge" all the way into 09/10. It'll always be Dodge to me
That’s what I still call them
And still had dodge on the dash through the 12s
Yep, I called my 2007 a Dodge all the time, too.
I think it’s all semantics to most people.
Finally someone who understands😂
I love the life your putting back into that classic Ram! Looks amazing!
I'd leave this truck as it is and build the army truck on the donor truck's chassis.
Agree
2nd that
I agree and I third that. Leave the truck alone and find another truck for the army project
@@russellfrew6334 Agree 100% X4
Ya I was scratching my head on that one. Why go through all that work. Leave this truck be and start anew.
What a beautiful truck, a lot of love went into it and it shows.. for someone as young as you to appreciate the truck and modify it in such a period correct manner is awesome! Can't wait to see the next one;-)
That's a badass truck. I'd love to see it do an Ike Gauntlet run.
I agree, now that she is all tuned up making some good power, I would love to see it run the IKE.
For sure that would make a great video.
That truck in the brochure is totally the truck from Walker Texas Ranger, a true classic.
Love the story on this old truck.
Kase has done an Awesome job on fixing the old girl up to where it is looking like new again.
Really a sharp period correct styled truck.
There is some guys like loud and proud that have to put the dumbest looking 22 and larger rims on everything, with rubber band tires and stupid with reticules looking offsets, they just ruin these old trucks.
Kase has rebuilt this beautiful truck, and it just looks so right?
agreed
Time to start TFLClassicHeavyDutyTrucks!
I’d like to see it on the gauntlet
Very nice truck Kase, you have done a great job with it. Often the hardest thing about a project is the financial bucket never lasts as long as you need it to. Nice video you 3 guys do well together.
"the new dodge. The rules have changed. And the world of trucks will never be the same again" -dodge 94'
That second gen changed the truck world the rules have changed!
Im in my 30's now and remember a lot of these 90's vehicles new as a kid. I am so happy to see more and more people start working on and restoring these vehicles.
Much respect. Glad to see someone in this group doing this kind of stuff.
My 97 has 310k on my 2500 Cummins . It’s super clean with a built auto and I’d never sell it . Every year I touch up paint the frame and them fluid film the underneath
Love the truck brother. awesome job on the restore of an awesome truck. Keep up the great work and looking forward to more updates.
I just love how Kase is passionate about whatever project he's involved in! I'm not a truck guy by any means, but damn, that thing has grown on me. That's the definition of paying tribute to a great vehicle. Looking forward to seeing more where that came from! :) Cheers from Québec City, Canada.
Dude I just bought a 94 Laramie slt single cab long bed with 144,000 on it, so mint!
Has all the service receipts and only thing wrong is the cracked dash (typical) and a starter.
$1,000 cash...
Can you believe that?! It still starts and runsbut it’ll click every once in a while. Cheap fix! So stoked on it!
Looks good bud! My favorite year of Ram trucks.
Impressed with the upgrades and refresh! Manuals forever awesome truck sir!
I would add that I even watch the bike channel for the occasional glimpse of this old truck, like the other day when Alex called it Kase's Tractor.
That was the best part of that whole video for me.
Not really a street bike guy, grew up riding dirt bikes, then quads, and don't really ride much more then my diesel gator around the farm now days.
These guys make great videos and they really seem to have a lot fun, which makes them fun to watch rather I care about the bikes in them or not.
I basically have this same truck but with the V10. I have a 1995 Ram 2500 Single Cab, Long Bed, 4x4. It's in pretty amazing shape except the paint on the cab, given it's an issue on almost all cars in those years. It's even a Colorado Truck. It's a family truck, Grandpa picked it over the Cummins back then cause he didn't like how loud it they were and it had more HP and 50 more ft lbs of Torque. 300 HP, 450 ft*lbs.
I fell in love with dodge’s second gen trucks when I got a second gen Dakota. Since then, after working on my Dakota, and doing research on the other trucks and their platforms, I couldn’t imagine buying any other generation dodge pickup. ❤️
Another great feature on this truck. You've done a ton to it and have made it one of the cleanest 2nd gens around! You're knowledgeable about it and the engine as well. You reconditioned that truck inside and out. I like the addition of the yellow fog lights in the front. I think 2nd gens are one of the best looking trucks out there, it was a revolutionary design when they first came out and were styled after a big rig. Most of these trucks today aren't fixed up like yours. You didn't mention injectors, so I assume stock for now, but a little bigger size and some delivery valves and you'll be close or over the number you're going for easily. A future compound setup will be a delight and you're well on your way with the S300 which will be a great high pressure top turbo.
He did mention injectors, he said he got bigger injectors around 9 mins
Yesss! bring this truck to a dyno please!
Great looking truck glad you saved it! I'm a ford fan but all in all I'm a truck fan and especially love it when a older truck is saved and not just rotting in a field some were! Good job bro
sweet ride! Just be careful and don't kill the reliability of that 5.9 by getting too crazy with the power mods.
It’s a straight six turbo diesel
lol. As long as you can keep fuel to it these engines will hold close to 800 hp on a stock block with studs and valve springs.
Lol kill the reliability of a 5.9... takes some effort to do that
@@jackk8422 yep it does, like more than tripling the power output for example LOL
I think 1300hp and 1450 ft lbs is what we have seen out of the 5.9 on serious steroids.....
Dodge and Cummins, those two words got me into diesels. 😀
Cummins builds some of the the best engines around, yet Dodge puts them in such a shitty truck LOL
Well GM tried to get CAT to detune one their their engine but refused.
I remember how revolutionary this truck and body style was when it first came out when I was a kid. Thanks for the video!
idc if you're a Toyota, RAM, Chevy, Ford, JDM, Classic Car, Lowrider, Exotic or Hot Rod guy you gotta admit, this is a good looking truck. Great job Kase!
Worth every penny and every second bringing that thing back and the amount of pride being behind the wheel very nice
I dig the oem replica equipment, especially the radio
Great video guys! Excited to see where Kase takes his truck.
One of my friends had a Dodge pickup similar to that except that it had a automatic trans. He used it as a daily driver as well as towing a 5th wheel. The one big complaint he had was that the auto trans couldn't last. After the second trans repair, he sold it and bought a brand new Chevy 4 door pickup with a turbo diesel and a 6 speed auto. That thing got better highway mileage than my 4 banger Tacoma!
I've got a 96 with the manual, but has that midwest rust unfortunately. Single cab, two tone long bed, leather. Is stock with exception of air suspension kit. Truly a unicorn
Awesome job Case - the truck looks so good and factory complimentary! Don't throw that beauty away!
It’s a cool build. Well done!
I saw you driving on ken pratt in longmont the other day wish i could of said hi but i was going the other way , truck looks great its what caught my eye super clean cummins
Maybe next time!
i have a 1994 project now with factory fog lights...yours looks good..im taking notes
I just got a 95 12V 4WD 5 speed but the bumper was all chrome. I’ve put the black top on it, side part, but my fog lights seem to not fit due to the radiator in the way.. any suggestions?
I have a 1999, looks about the same as your's, with some major upgrades done, almost all for better fuel mileage. If I just bought your truck, I'd get rid of the larger wheels and tires and go closer to stock. AND I'd upgrade the headlights to the double bulb sport headlights, then add a BriteBox so when you switched to high beams, the low beams stay on too. BIG improvement at night.
Would have loved to hear it fire up. Sure I can fine a plethora of other videos of the same truck running, but I'm invested in this one! Hell of a build, good work
Nice work on the Ram👍🔥 I installed Banks exhaust on my '05 F350 6.0 diesel and was very happy with the quality!
Always love watching these videos with Kase! Keep it up dude! You're KILLING IT!
Also, i LOVE this ram. The 12V is such a stout engine! I've worked on TONS of generators with this engine. Never ever ran into one with issues.
That truck looks great. I love that you are keeping it close to factory on the body. When I was a kid and those first came out I remember thinking man that looks like a big rig the way the hood is on them. So cool always been my favorite body style. I own a 5th gen 1500 now and I love it. Way to go Case. Very cool truck.
Nice ride!! You will really like those amber fog lights in whiteout conditions you may see this winter. I live next door to you in Utah. I think if you’re losing traction in third, your power estimates seem accurate but I think you’re building torque on the upper end of your estimate. Very nice build, love the single cab. Have a wonderful day everyone
I have a 5.9L 360 V8 and it does not feel like I have 230 horsepower until I got rid of the stock metal clutch fan and switched to E-fans and I gained back a out 10-15 horsepower. It even helped gained a little bit of mpg but not like crazy mpg just enough to make me not have to go to a gas station so often now lol.
love the ram, hate that army truck idea...
Awesome truck. I own a 97 Dodge 2500 4x4 12V with alot of the same mods. Love these trucks.
Beautiful! He could get mid 20’s for that thing now in the condition it’s in. Great job case!
That is exactly what I was thinking too, this truck is an easy $20K + truck now.
Not a chance. No one in their right mind would pay that much for a 2nd Gen.
@@Sackmatters I have seen low milage survivors bring in the 40s , more then they cost new. I saw a low milage survivor something like 45k miles same setup as kase’s truck go for $32k . The classic diesel truck market is on fire these days.
@@Sackmatters you’ve obviously not done ANY research on a 12 valve 2nd gen. Especially one like this that’s clean, and a manual! THOUSANDS of people would pony up for that type of truck.
@@Sackmatters ha, have you looked up clean examples in your area?
My current truck is a 2000 Chevy Silverado that I bought for $2,600 with 363k miles. That was just shy of 6 years ago. The biggest expenses I've had was a reserviced transfer case for $900 when I bought it. Fuel pump died on the road and cost $600 to replace. Then a used engine this past summer for $1,100 plus $600 freight. Just about every single normal wear and tear item replaced as well. I fortunately have done all the work except the fuel pump. So I've spent a lot of time and relatively low money but it's has been completely worth not having a loan payment. The truck now has over 437k miles and going strong.
What a great truck! Always fun to do the work yourself.
Job well done, love Dodge myself have 2005 5.9 Cumming done a few items on it.
Looks great! That's a pretty rare-ish truck with that manual. Look forward to seeing future mods. It must be put up against a newer truck just for fun!
Love it dude!! Keep up the good work guys!
the plastic on the tailgate protects it from gravel you left on top the bumper
Kace, third time watching this episode! Do you have a build list for the parts you bought??? Where did you find your rear bumper for $250? Plastics for the front bumper, etc.... would be very helpful to us that are restoring our second Gens... 🙏🏼 I’m currently working on a new to me 96 12v 2500 4x4 auto club cab long bed with 164k in the clock.
I also got a Reman radio for my TJ a few years ago. It only had a headphone jack and no bluetooth. Now I wish it had it!
The cheese grater on the tailgate is to minimize paint rubbing & scratches when the tailgate is down & touching the top of the bumper
You should have done a cold start !want to hear that turbo
Heck yea lets hear some cold starts.
and burn outs@@jdfleetguy28
It looks great now let's see it offroading on some great trails to see what it can really do. Please?
Im sorry, it won’t happen. He’s put a ton of money into it that it is now just a road queen.. i’d be hurt to take it offroading.
@@mauiboy96768 i agree and these trucks aren't meant to be offroad rigs, they're for hauling
I bet that would do fine as an off-roader. Let's get the TFL ORI!
It's a lot shorter than the F-250 they just got rid of, so I bet it would do better than that.
@@JahyMoonwalker off roading is hard on vehicles, why do that to this beautiful gem?😂
@@shitloveaduck I agree I would say that was some real off road driving he put it through on the Happy yack race course.
The old gal was getting a real workout in that video. Loved watching him put her through her paces.
Sweet truck! I really like that everything looks pretty original on it.
the manuals made more power stock then the automatics did. had a bigger p pump. the automatics are the ones known to blow up but can be built to a stronger degree then the manuals (96 12 valve guy whos built his whole truck himself)
This has been a really good series. I have enjoyed it. Nice truck!
The 12v manuals made more power
More than what? Automatics?
@@jason328d6 yes
Yeah in some models the 12v auto made almost 30hp less than the 5-speeds because the auto was so weak
Ya 180hp for auto trucks, 215 for manual
They made more power but they were still slower on an average
0-60 than the auto, even with the 215 pump. which is part of the reason the standards had more hp from factory.
"Is this the 5.9?" come on Tommy!!, you run a truck channel!!!
94-95 automatics with the 47rh ran 160 from the factor and manuals ran 175 and then they ramped that up 96-98 automatics had a 180 pump and manuals had a 215 pump 👌🏻
I dropped a 3k built motor in my 3k 1994 4runner lol. Love to see the old trucks getting taken care of
Love the truck! Crazy how the Colorado diesel makes similar numbers to this truck when new. This was way more potential, obviously.
That radio looks like the exact same radio unit that was in the Plymouth Breeze I learned to drive in.
Truck looks GREAT! You have done a marvelous job!! Cheers!
Jon
In those days, the manual did NOT have less power. Ever since 1994, the manual always had more hp AND more torque. We can thank the weak 47RE auto for that. It wasn't until 2003 when the 48RE "HO" Cummins finally matched the NV5600 numbers. And wasn't until the 4th gen when the auto finally surpassed the manual torque.
We had one of those old M trucks as a kid. It hauled more wood up steeper hills with mud and snow than it had any business doing. Cool Ram too,, you should check out Deboss Garage. He has swapped a few trucks and may have some helping ideas for you or maybe even a built pump. Cheers fellas!
I swear this dude has a wardrobe full of badass jackets!
I wouldn't be opposed to a whole parking lot of 90's heavy duty pickups. 16:56
That is a really nice truck, you did a great job restoring it. This request might be unusual, but i would really like to see that truck on a cross country road trip, or the ultimate road trip, to Alaska via the Al - Can highway. Maybe take a travel trailer.
Very Cool! I wish I had the know haw and money to do something like that. Keep us updated. love the classics channel
Manual makes more power
you have one dang nice truck there man! before the EPA got their hands on them and ruined diesels lol!
He didn't waste his money. 12 valve cummins trucks are on a steep rise in value and nice examples fetch alot. Manual trucks even more so
Cool man, cool...pretty handy when your room mate is a diesel mech, lucky!
Wrong, the manuals made more power I have an 02 same body style. H.O. was 6 speed only
When I heard him say that I stopped the video to see if anyone caught that.
this is the best build on all the tfl fleet
I agree 100% , I only wish the building process was also on video as well.
Yep. I agree. Too bad they didn’t get the workshop footage...love to see builds.
What’s funny is that I could spend like 1/2 the money & have a ford idi or 7.3 that’s like 500hp. You can get a 7.3 Powerstroke around here for 2-3k & have it with stage 1 injectors, straight pipe, & stacks.
Great job Case, looks like a great job.
Man my dream truck. I’d trade my 2014 Cummins in a heartbeat for this truck.
I have the 1995 Canadian sales brochure, tabarnak ! 👍
Don't mess with the motor without beefing up the transmission and the rear differential!!!
looks cool looks like its still from the 90's that's how you know you done did right.
I have a 2500 1996 with manual transmission 4x4 and it is a beast!!!
I think TFL should do a "Classics" Ike gauntlet head to head with all 3 HD trucks, mid 90's or early 00's
That truck is probably a rare find to come across one with those options I think they are kinda rare to find a single cab 4x4 diesel with a manual trans
I've got a 97 cummins 5 speed named Loretta, such an awesome truck and she can tow anything you put behind her! Dash is cracked to crap though haha
Wow it was really cool rugged practical looking when you bought it. now it looks very standard issue. Everything under the hood is awesome though
Always love that second gen rams!
Hope to see more of Kase he seems to know his stuff
I second that.
Roman has hired a real future auto journalist, rock star in this guy.
This dude has it all, the whole package, looks, charisma , confidence, and for me the most important attribute is his excellent automotive knowledge, he really understands what he is talking about.
I am still not sure why, but Roman or whomever makes the call, they seem to stick Kase behind the camera way to much.
He has the knowledge, the confidence, and skills to back up what he talks about.
There is not many auto journalist that I can say that about.
Too many clearly don't know beans about what they are talking about.
Kase really seems to know his way around vehicles, and it shows any time they let him be on cam.
What headlights did you use, and where did you get them from? Awesome build.
This truck is EXCELLENT!!! Very nice Case!!!!!!!!
Nice work Kase & Connor...good looking truck !
Kase did you guys shoot any video of doing the building of this truck?
That would make some cool videos as well.
I love this old truck.
I would find good old clean chassis and use that for your next build, this old girl is just way to nice of a truck to tear it apart now.
