Yeah... he's noob.
Be carefull about misreading Ashiok everyone. The static ability of Ashiok specificly cares about you "paying" life. So a trigger or effect that makes you "lose" life like The One Ring doesn't get replaced with exiling cards from your deck.
I don’t understand why this is so hard for some people to realize. The fact that losing life ≠ paying life is very simple and straightforward, at least in my mind it is. Maybe I’m just too much of a rules expert lol
I mean it's more like people don't really register the card since it's new, and some of us are more of a visual kinda player, who needs to see how the card work to understand
@@vietquang8739 It’s a trading card game. There’s nothing to see. It’s cardboard. Everything that’s understood about the game is done by reading and understanding the words on a card and reading and understanding the rules. All of that is mental. One of the most famous lines in Magic is “Reading the card explains the card.”

If it said "if you would lose life", it would make the opponent HAVE to kill Ashiok to win most games (damage causes loss of life)
It's funny how he said that if he casts Liliana's contract after Ashiok you don't have to PAY 4 life and then he immediately did just that and LOST 4 life

It's funny he got no lands in the game at 37:00
so I rewound it to the deck reveal and this guy still does not run over 40 lands
with that curve and not running enough ramp in this format.
This deck is pray for lands until you play ashiok once and lose when she dies
you might as well just turbo her out every turn.
you should run 43-45 lands in almost all decks
and like 10 ramp cards
when every opponent is ragavan, atraxa, etali, and emoti
who all ramp to oblivion until they drop
an ultimatum level threat on turn 4 or 5
you need to run more removal and discard strategies or
more ramp and bigger spells
if necro is the strategy then run every tutor
and stop d*cking around

@@meplaygames6524 No pronoun is entirely accurate when referring to Ashiok, but it, he, and she have all been confirmed to not apply to the planeswalker. They/them pronouns are admissible, but it's best to use the dream render's name or another noun instead.

I pulled Ashoik for my pre-release Sealed pack, never drew them in any of my games either. I think Ashiok is just very shy.

NO CGB you arent stupid, this was very educational on how to play the new Ashiok and also what to look out for. Pay and lose are very different. On the flip side the lose life effect draw cards alot of them are meta. But i would personally remove the lIlis contract...there is more than enough card advantage and it does not benefit the Ashiok
Not sure if this helps or not, but when you "lose x life", it's a consequence of an action; when you "pay x life", it's a cost associated to an action.
For example, if you "pay 1 life" to exile a card with Necropotence, you're paying the cost (the 1 life) to exile the card; if you lose x life with The One Ring (for example), it's a consequence of the ring having x counters.

If it said “lose life” instead of “pay life” then your opponent would either have to remove ashiok to be able to kill you normally, or have to deal enough damage to deck you out entirely i.e. like 75-85 damage to exile your entire deck so you die on your draw. Would be nightmarishly busted if that were the case.
Not necessarily; it could be worded as life loss caused by your own cards.

I have fond, and also horrific, memories of Type 2 Necropotence play. I won my 1st regional qualifier back in the day with a mono black Necropotence/weenie/discard pile. Playing Necro with the new Ashiok is just perverse and super fun, for the person playing it. Not so much for the opponent.
Worth noting you can also toss The Irencrag into Mount Doom to blow up the board.
I watch every CGB video on all channels, usually only comment to complain or criticize.. but this is one of your best videos so wanted to drop some praise. Informative, interesting, competitive, fun- Ty
CGB has a fever and the only prescription is more card draw.
Defiler of Flesh from All Will Be One would be a great addition to this deck. Let's you "pay 2" instead of a black mana for permanent black cards.
Also don't forget Ashiok counts all the exiled cards that white loves to lock up. At least if you own them.

It’d be a bit strong if it prevented life loss - direct damage from creatures is life loss after all, or being bolted to the face. It just replaces instances where you’d pay life (in general, it’s something you do first to activate an effect) by exiles instead.
Btw, the play in the last game was to keep plussing your Ashiok and ult it eventually imo.
Love CGB realizing how his cards worked in the very last game lmao. “Can’t wait to read the comments” (53:25) was too real. My favorite moment was when he played Liliana’s Contract with Ashiok out, lost 4 life, and didn’t even notice (17:46). 🤣 Still, the deck dominating like it did even when built subomtimally shows both Ashiok’s power and CGB’s skill.

Excited to see the historic brawl decks you build with all the new cards and all the classics they brought back. Cards like Doubling Season, Primal Vigor, and Paralell Lives have made my wolf/werewolf token deck so much fun. A little janky but wins more than I'd ever expect it to. Pretty much had to edit all my blue brawl decks for Rhystic Study lol

I crafted the deck (only 1 rare 1 mythic) but one of them was lilianna contract.. i doubted the craft but like to play your decks as is.. haha cgb fan risk

Using Necropotence on MTGA looks like no fun.
That last game hurt to watch... You'd have died from having 4 creatures even if you didn't attack! You coulda gotten Sheoldred to gain some life at least instead of a Karn that did nothing! DX

stone of erech and Leyline of the void are both perfect for this deck
30:18 in most instances where they make a anime or movie off a IP it usuallly upsets the fans and doesnt work out getting alot of scrutinization. IMO i would like to see a anime of mtg even if it wasnt the best.

Necropotence skips the Phyrexian Arena Trigger right? The trailer of WOE is really cool.
No, Ashiok replaces PAYING LIFE, Arena is just lose a life.
Arena is an upkeep trigger so it still works. Necro does blank stuff like Sylvan Library or Howling Mine that happen in draw though.

I'm going to try building this deck on Arena myself but I am not sure I understand how to properly play it? Do you focus on milling or exiling for stacks to your nightmare tokens? What is the main goal for this deck?

It would be interesting to see more proliferate effects in the deck to leverage Ashiok's ultimate and mill/exile the opponent's entire deck after a Necropotence or Citadel binge...

Imagine people scooping to multiple Necropotence activations in paper commander like they do in Arena.

What's nice about Necropotence is that it "exiles cards and puts them into your hand" which doesn't count as "drawing a card" for stuff like Sheoldred.

This is why I hate historic brawl and historic in general. It’s the definition of feels bad when watching the opponent pop off in an uncounterable combo that means slow death. I mean, it’s why no one stays… why waste 10 minutes when you know you’ve already lost?
