There’s a purple belt in my gym that helps our instructor, he has short legs and I’m so fucking happy finally someone teaches me how to adapt the movements

@joshua2585 mate why are you being a smart arse about it. No, it's not an exclusively white belt thing to forget someone's name, but it's the experience you have when you join a gym for the first time and there are 30+ people you've never met. Usually by the time you've got to blue belt you'll have been there long enough and will know everyone's names. Of course that's not categorically true but it's largely true.

That kinda makes me feel good. I'm a white belt and only relate to asking to drink water and thanking for the roll. I love technical drills and accept I'm the one being steamrolled while I learn.

The irony is the "leave your ego at the door" sign in the back ground. I know its all in fun but the only reason this is funny to anyone is because its been too long sense they have tried anything new and it boosts their ego to feel more accomplished than others in one area of their life.
@@SuperTmman No, it doesn't have as much to do with ego as it dose with just making fun of people who are either beginners or just different and don't quite fit in and or havn't quite learned all of the soscial etiquette. I would say that most beginners are not disrespectful,and they are not coming in with an ego.However, there may be some exceptions though.

No seriously, what does oss/osu mean?
I started training for almost a month and it's awkward when everyone says "oss" and I sit there confused hahaha
Ous is a way to say "Hello, yes, alright, okay"
It's like the equivalent of a "yes sir" in the military. With the literate, dictionary definition, it doesn't really have one. It's more like an expression.
I think it's a Japanese thing.
OSS is not used in Japanese martial arts in Japan but every martial art in Brazil has used it from ages. Brazil is the country with the biggest number of Japanese and Japanese descendants living out of Japan, in fact there are more Lebanese in Brazil than in Lebanon.
The most acceptable explanations are:
1- Oss started to be used at the Japanese navy school as an expression like Yes sir, Roger that, excuse-me, thank you. Onegai Shimasu
2-Some people defend that this is a contracted form of what could be translated like Put the pressure on yourself until reach the limit of your endurance. (Osu Shinobu)

Should have added when white belts brag that they tapped a higher belt even tho the higher belt obviously let them do it
They LET them do it? I sincerely do not believe that. Higher belts that claim they've 'given' a sub away are just to proud to admit they probably made a mistake that was capitalised on. Plus, going relatively easy on lower belts is okay. Giving submissions is not; no one learns from that.
