Thanks for this story, Lee. Michael J. Fox holds a special place for thiose afflicted with Parkinson's (I'm one of them). He tirelessly fundraises and is helping doctors to find a cure. I'm so glad you gave him that gold record...he's done so much for our community. As I always say, "Having Parkinson's is like having a horrible hangover without the party". Thanks, Lee and I hope you tour with Judith and come to Nashville! I'll be front row center if you do (on my trusty scooter due to mobility issues). Mwah! Taryn

How wonderful this is. We are supporters of Michael's foundation as my hubby retired and was diagnosed with Parkinson's after more than 40 years on the graveyard shift as a Registered Nurse in emergency room and open heart. Those are the cards we've been dealt and we are rolling with it. Exercise, yoga, music, all important to keep him going.
We were on the way today to Phoenix for an appointment and all the Saguaro 🌵 were giving the "Leland salute", it's really cool to see them 🖕🖕🌵🌵
Be safe everyone 🤗 and have a fabulous rest of the day😉

These small acts of unexpected kindness make life so much more magical! What a beautiful and meaningful gesture, thank you for sharing this story. Michael is such a sweetheart! Another great lesson from this also is that we put our hearts and souls into our work and we never know the lives that will be profoundly touched by it. Can it be more magical? This is our God's given ability.

I love this. I did a similar thing with my musical hero, film composer John Williams. I took two years away from my career as a side man to fulfill a bucket list dream and record a cinematic instrumental album called AD ALTA, back in 2016. Shortly after I finished it, John came to town to conduct the Nashville Symphony one night, and I had hoped to give him a copy of my record and shake his hand, just to say thank you for 4+ decades of inspiration.
Unfortunately I had just missed him, so I sent the album to his home with a letter of thanks. To my great surprise, he sent the cover back a few weeks later, with his autograph on it. I burst into tears… What a kind gesture by someone I’ve looked up to for so long!
    Been enjoying your channel!

Just revisited this post. That was certainly a noble jesture and I'm glad you finally got an acknowledgement. How swell would it be if whomever gives out those records could replicate one for you. I shared your concern with parting with an important article not sure where it would end up. I have several regrettable donations which I made that went nowhere. I also shared part of my life with a person afflicted by Parkinson's and am glad that MJF and others get 1,000% more care and acceptance than one did years ago. Thankfully the days of lobotomy, forced est and other awful "treatments" are gone. Would love to see a cure in our lifetime.

Thanks For Sharing - MJ Fox & I overlap in age by just a few years. His TV series Family Ties and especially the BTTF Trilogy are at the top of my list for 1980's related TV/Films he did. When the original BTTF was in the theaters (1985) I was a senior in high school. I loved that Guess Blue Jean jacket he wore. So, I went out and got one. It cost $120 and I literally had to beg my parents to help me out with the cost. Reluctantly they did and I was ecstatic. I still have that jacket today! I haven't worn it in years. Memories like that are priceless. Your channel is built around them and I look forward to hearing yours.

Great story Lee. Thank you for sharing. You are very kind to have done that. I'd like to share one relating to Michael J Fox foundation for Parkinson's. I played drums for most of my life until PD took that away from me at age 62....or so it thought! Not wanting to give up music, I worked with a music therapist and drum coach for a little over one year now and have regained about 70% of what I had lost in my ability to play. This is because when you play percussion, it lights up all of the neurons in the brain of which Parkinson's robs. I thought this was such an important medical finding that I reached out to the Michael J Fox foundation and asked them if they had any interest in doing a documentary on this. I was told that they didn't but if I wanted to make a donation, that would be welcomed to make one. I can't believe that I got that kind of response from them but I did. I'm sure that Michael knew nothing of this but wished that there were a way for him to know.

Great story Lee. I had a similar situation, although in my case, there was a much sadder ending. I was friends with a musician named Mark Linkous, who made records under the name Spaklehorse. One time when I was cleaning out an apartment, I found a little electric reed organ, which had a sound that I felt would fit in perfectly with the type of sounds Mark liked to use on his records. I gave it to a mutual friend, who passed it on to Mark. I never heard anything for a while, before tragedy struck and he took his own life in 2010. I still wonder where that little organ ended up.
