Brad, you're one heck of a good businessman. To take time to make videos for your customers, explaining your decision to NOT cut, goes above and beyond. I don't know why you take the time to explain to disgruntled, couch potato viewers about YOUR CHOICE on how to run YOUR business! I never once thought you lazy, you know how a business runs to make profit, that's in your, and your families best interest. The ones who put you down for your methods is one who hasn't mowed much, probably just their own yard. My husband does our yard and he uses the equipment that helps more so it doesn't reek havoc on his body for the next 2 or 3 days after. Judging a person's way of doing a property, doesn't make sense. I do like watching your videos and seeing the techniques you use. The humor with it is fun.👍
Your reasoning makes tons of sense. The risk going month to month was especially big, given the way your contacts are weighted. The only other option for you to was to specify a new month-to-month rate which varied by season. That would have protected you in the event they dropped your contact coming out of the busy spring/summer seasons. But, you had additional personal reasons. Anyone that watches this and concludes that you're lazy or stupid just isn't paying attention.
#1 You're not lazy. #2 You gave full transparency #3 This is your business. Handle it the way it will work for your Family, yourself and on a business level. I Appreciate your skills and info.
I Love the bluntness of this video everyone shows the good stuff about being a lawn care provider Every one hides the bad stuff the bad properties the bad customers or in your case the bad board guys I also had to get rid of properties due to just being to much and less cost

Great video. Amazing to encounter yet of another example of somebody mixing his/her profession (knowledge) with another, equally important, ability, being a "TV" personality on RUclips. So many "TV" personalities are just that, just "TV" personalities (actors etc) but have other people feed them with material to showcase. Being able to do it all, have specific knowledge/expertise and experience, being able to present it in an interesting way, edit it and get "out there" is actually an very rare ability and I admire that. Respect!

It’s easy for those that haven’t ran their own business to see the $13,000 contract but forget all of the sweat and time that goes into that. To factor in all the time, equipment upkeep, and the board members...I totally get it Brad. At the end of the day, it’s your business and sometimes you see things that we don’t. Thank you for the breakdown. Also, I like the MP3 audio file. I listen more than watch

I love making overgrown youtube videos Brad, for alot of same reasons you do. More family time mostly, I used to have a bigger lawn business, and made more money than working solo, but the stress of having to depend on employees to show up, do good work, and everything else that comes along with employing people is just to much. I love working solo, It's so nice only having to depend on myself, and I really do prefer doing the overgrown stuff anyways, been doing them since way before youtube started and was thrilled to see people like watching them.

Landscaping/lawn maintenance is long hours, hot, exhausting and dirty work. I absolutely cannot blame you for trying to make the workload easier or faster........home life is farrrrr more important......if you have kids, theyre only young once so take the time to enjoy that instead of working every moment of the day.
This is great information. As far as anyone telling you you're lazy, I doubt they run their own business, and if they do, they're running it wrong. Maximizing the time we spend not working is what we all strive for. Well, maybe except for those folks who LOVE their work. But even then, doing nothing but working is boring, no matter how much you love it. Anyway, thank you for putting this together. Not only is it appealing to watch someone else do the yard work :-), but your channel is also loaded with great information.
Hello Brad. Have you driven past this property to see how the new lawncare company maintains it? Look and see if they have rut and damaged the lawn from mowing to wet? I also totally agree with all your reasons. One needs to balance work and family. Not always easy.
Number one reason I subscribed and will watch now is “I’m mostly a stay at home Dad”. You’re living my dream scenario in life! Enjoy my daughter to the fullest and make money on my own terms! Keep it up Sir! Screw the haters!!

You do an amazing job, never let anyone else tell you how to run your business. Most of these folks leaving negative comments are working for other people and dont have the balls or willpower to run their own business.
Makes perfect sense to me... I'm still holding out for a Copper Creek Cuts Lawn Care Brad action figure on a mower. I want it so bad! Please make this happen :)
This is my 4th year and I started to do the same thing on my lawn care business. If doesn't make sense and is not profitable I won't do the job or I will drop that account. I love the RUclips idea you just shared. Thank you!
Absolutely, my metal manufacturing employer closed out the plant just before a hefty percentage of employees would have enough years worked to qualify for optimal retirement benefits. There was no coincidence in the timing of that decision.
Makes perfect sense to me. One of the perks (and there aren't many) of being a business owner is being able to pick and choose what you are willing to accept for jobs. You're right, the folks that have never owned a company may not understand everything that goes into a decision like this. Most importantly to me (as a fellow small business owner) is putting family first. Even if it's just one Friday a month, it's worth it! Your candid comments about making money off of the RUclips videos may be taken as "ego" by some, but to me it's refreshing honesty!
For employees, my dad always says children are the best employees for cheap labor ... my dad used to pay us a little block of hubba bubba gum for picking up cigarette butts 😂
Brad I enjoyed this video. You seem to have a finger on the pulse of your viewership and those haters who leave those ignorant “lazy” comments. I was thinking the same thing before you started talking about it. You have a nice gig going for yourself. Nice save on that pond bank! Keep doing you. Notice the haters hate, but they still watch. You profit from their ignorant mindsets, which is the best part.
isn't that the dream for everyone? Do less work / more work that you enjoy for less effort and more time with the family? I love the vids amazing to releax to :) BTW isn't it the biggest reason most people that choose to work for themselves is so they can determine their own time working/ what they want to do?
As a fellow business owner I am with you. Some jobs just aren't worth the issues that come with them. And yes. there were many times, especially when my kids were young, that I took days off just to do something with them. You can always make more money, you can't make more time.
Those who say you're lazy for any reason or you need to work like a man are the ones where the most work they've ever done is climbing the basement stairs up to the frig and back down again. Best thing to do is just ignore them.
Thank you for sharing this video! I am so happy to hear your passion for lawn care are and how you are rewarded with the options to operate as you see fit! It's encouraging to others considering the field, and taught me aspect to consider in my business. God bless you!
Brad I have the same mindset. Have to make that hourly rate that is set and I heard the whole you price is higher than expected and I say the same thing about Quality
Running a similar business to you in Australia I understand all the points you've made in this video. It shits me to tears though when you genuinely love a job but lose it to a change of management who really doesn't understand what efforts you are putting in above the cheaper contractor. I myself have pretty much given up residential jobs to take on commercial contracts as there is a lot bigger profit margin and most commercial contracts aren't looking for particular results. They don't care if the shrubs are round or square. As long as they are tidy and kept tidy.
As soon as you mentioned the 'underpay in the spring/summer months' and the 'overpay in the winter months,' and thus the year balances out, and that the contract had a possibility of fizzling between the two, I was convinced you did the right thing. I didn't need the rest of the video. Obviously, anyone calling you lazy has never done a day of physical labor and how physically and mentally exhausting it is. Also, the long-term effects of doing things 'the manly way.' Also also, good for you for doing things for people for free in exchange for the youtube revenue. Both parties come away happy, and your youtube visitors get X-minutes of satisfaction-evoking entertainment.

I love how you got them to see it your way when you first took on the contract: "So you want to pay me the same amount of money for doing a better job". Very good approach.
I was a commercial i surance underwriter. Brokers would bring me an account and say "I really want to give you this business. Your company proviides much better service. All you need to do is give more coverage for less premium." Drove me crazy.
There is a saying:
It's rare for a man to go to his grave wishing he had worked more. It is more common for a man to wish he'd spent more time with family and friends.
♡♡ Take care of yourselves and each other.
You’re being logical. Your priorities come first and if you don’t value yourself no one will. I support your decision good luck.
This is the difference between someone who knows what he’s talking about to someone who’s just doing a job. Congratulations 🥳 amazing work as usual
Brad, you're one heck of a good businessman. To take time to make videos for your customers, explaining your decision to NOT cut, goes above and beyond.
I don't know why you take the time to explain to disgruntled, couch potato viewers about YOUR CHOICE on how to run YOUR business! You have a GREAT work ethic and it's NOBODY'S business on how or why you make your choices. In the words of Bruce Lee; "Empty heads have long tongues." Keep up the GREAT work, Brother!
I get it. I will be 67 in August and was a heavy duty mechanic for over 45 years. I have no back problems, joint problems and still have all of my fingers. I let the tools of my trade do the work they were designed to do. I did work hard but I also worked smart.
I completely understand you!! I’m a also a lawn care business out in Southern California. I also do all the work by myself. I started letting go all my cheap clients and focused on the ones who pay on time and appreciate the Quality of my work. I’m not as busy however I’m making more and the best part is I get spend a lot of time with my family and friends more. Being a business owner is awesome dude to the fact that we can choose what jobs to take. Bottom line: this is your business you run it however it pleases you. People always love to hate or have something say when they have absolutely no clue how to take care of a lawn. Keep doing you the best thing someone ever told me was move in silence.
I'm 5 years into my lawn business, and couldn't agree more with you on this one 👏 👍
In other news, Local Florida man works smarter not harder, providing better for his family and being able to spend more time with them.
I don't know how I discovered you... I think it was yesterday or the day before but I find you to be quite humble and very hard-working.
I had no idea watching someone cut grass could be so satisfying... weird. Thanks for what you do and for being so up-front about everything. Cool guy, you is. lol Chin up! Don't let the haters get to you! ^^
#2 You gave full transparency
#3 This is your business. Handle it the way it will work for your Family, yourself and on a business level.
I Appreciate your skills and info.
Not only do you do a good job maintaining lawn care, but you've got a dang good business sense too. Congrats to you!
I Love the bluntness of this video everyone shows the good stuff about being a lawn care provider Every one hides the bad stuff the bad properties the bad customers or in your case the bad board guys I also had to get rid of properties due to just being to much and less cost
Never thought I would enjoy a lawncare channel, but you sir are very entertaining and talented!
i like how you keep saying "brad specific" more people need to think about works best for them in the long run! Good for you for doing whats best for you. stay safe!
Respect!
This was a very good video. very well explained
I agree. His decision to drop this contract makes perfect sense.
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Wow, you are an absolute genius and amazing at crucial conversations. Thank you so much for making this video. I run a video production company and learned how to better navigate agreements and conversations from you today. God bless! Subscribing for you.
I really appreciate that feedback and you tagging along for the ride. Thank you Sir!
That’s how it always is, nobody ever knows just how much work goes into a specific job.
@@FishFind3000 true! They see the “big money” and forget the effort it takes to keep and manage that contract
Excellent video with very smart commentary! Life is all about balance. Work smart, not hard. Thank you for sharing some very good comments and insight and common sense. Thoroughly enjoyed!!
As soon as you said HOA I thought I would never. 😂
I love making overgrown youtube videos Brad, for alot of same reasons you do. More family time mostly, I used to have a bigger lawn business, and made more money than working solo, but the stress of having to depend on employees to show up, do good work, and everything else that comes along with employing people is just to much. I love working solo, It's so nice only having to depend on myself, and I really do prefer doing the overgrown stuff anyways, been doing them since way before youtube started and was thrilled to see people like watching them.
rumor has it that Adam LZ has a few thousand hours of pressure washing that he needs done, and he's in florida 🤔
I was also thinking about this but im surprised that it was already commented
Who?
@@ChrisLascari A car youtuber who recently bought a whole comound with a lot of grass that needs care. That place is massive and according to him its about 26.000 square feet
Brad, you have some excellent logical points you brought up when it comes to dealing with haters on the comment section, and cheap/ problematic customers. I love your responses.
Amen, work smart...not hard. As you get older working smarter becomes more important especially when your body doesn't recover as fast as it did when you were younger.
"Work smarter, not harder." Seems to me that you're doing exactly that. Well done!
Family is the number one most important thing in the world and it makes since that you didn’t rebid the job because of the new board. Well I hope it all works out in the end.
I like your attitude my man. Definitely nice and courteous and still firm when need be. 👍🏻👍🏻
Not that you need my approval, but solid business decision! Congratulations on over 200k. I’m excited to see how big the channel gets!
My wife and I watch your videos quite often and you are one cool person, businessman, and a very respectful man. We hope you know that there are watchers on your side, and I find it sad that people are so negative to your or anybody's videos on RUclips. (Watch or choose not to and move on..right?)
You have a very reasonable and strong head on your shoulders and personally if we lived closer, I'm sure would make for excellent friends. I hope your local and RUclips businesses skyrocket. 👍
The big thing for me is that the grass isn’t even atrociously long. It still looks good and is walkable
I was thinking the same thing
He explained you can walk in the grass but its holding way too much water (he showed how his feet go deep down) and his mower being its very heavy can damage a soaking lawn, plus he risks damaging the mower.
A great explanation anyone should be able to understand. Great video! Family time is precious as you highlighted in this video.
Work smarter not harder your doing what's right for you I love your videos 😀✌
You're lazy! Not. Work smarter, not harder. Nice video and lays it all out there. Thanks for sharing your truth here. I've seen a few of your videos and this one has me hitting subscribe!
The whole idea of an HOA is alien to me. Some board controls what goes on with your lawn? Why would anyone willingly live in such a situation?
The "Idea" is that it maintains standards and property value will not be affected by your neighbors. But power corrupts and people start tripping. Aka politicians
@@nuckleavee8258 Except there are almost never any positive stories, only horror, that come with HOAs. If anything it seems like being in a "diverse" society is a lot better than a HOA, unless of course, you're a Karen. I'll take a loud neighbor any day over an obtrusive one that thinks they control my property.
@@nuckleavee8258 Of course you can do something about neighbors playing loud music all day, you dial 911 and tell then the neighbor is playing loud music all day
Just found your channel and enjoyed this video. I did landscaping back when I was younger, so I completely understand your views and points in the video.
Great work Brad!!
I've learned so much from you about PR and how to interact with customers. I might not mow lawns, but I learned so much.
This is a great look into both you as a businessman but also you as a youtuber.
Family is always first. Spend your time with your family, you never know when they are going to go.
Love your vids man and just started my own landscaping business with my wife out here in Vegas. You are a huge motivation to us so keep doing your thing. Thank you Sir.
Was in the business for 30 years, never got rich but raised a family and put two sons thru college . Had one HOA customer 29 years ago for one contract year, nuf said.
You do an amazing job, never let anyone else tell you how to run your business. Most of these folks leaving negative comments are working for other people and dont have the balls or willpower to run their own business.
Thanks for explaining your decision based on your position.
You're so funny at times. Love watching your channel. Informative and positive to get anyone in a good mood.
Makes perfect sense to me... I'm still holding out for a Copper Creek Cuts Lawn Care Brad action figure on a mower. I want it so bad! Please make this happen :)
copper creek cuts Brad by funco....that would b a good one....with multiple shirt colors😅
I respect anybody that put family over money love your videos i actually go to sleep and wake up to these videos keep them coming
if these HOA's ran a golf course it would go out of business the first year
This is my 4th year and I started to do the same thing on my lawn care business. If doesn't make sense and is not profitable I won't do the job or I will drop that account.
I love the RUclips idea you just shared. Thank you!
Yup they would have dropped you right when you were about to make your good money months..I agree with what you did 100%
Absolutely, my metal manufacturing employer closed out the plant just before a hefty percentage of employees would have enough years worked to qualify for optimal retirement benefits.
Its great to have options.
The RUclips’s part was a great point!
The most honest explanation of work vs earning vs time. Great work!
For employees, my dad always says children are the best employees for cheap labor ... my dad used to pay us a little block of hubba bubba gum for picking up cigarette butts 😂
Put your own kids to worK Jason
Hubba Bubba.. "Big bubbles, No troubles!"
Wow, what an awesome owner to communicate with clients the way you do. That shows true care in the product you provide
Was thinking the same thing. People who say you're lazy haven't been doing landscaping for 20 years. Shit takes a toll on you
Wow I was so impressed with the videos you sent to the possibly frustrated customer. So professional and so diffusing. Beautiful.
To have a employee mindset is destined to stay an employee. Better to think like a boss
I love the vids amazing to releax to :)
BTW isn't it the biggest reason most people that choose to work for themselves is so they can determine their own time working/ what they want to do?
As a fellow business owner I am with you. Some jobs just aren't worth the issues that come with them.
And yes. there were many times, especially when my kids were young, that I took days off just to do something with them. You can always make more money, you can't make more time.
Yeah that was a smart choice. To much work for little pay. Yeah in cali if we need employees or extra help for the day. We hit up home depo
Very wise mindset. Awesome use of the seven Pillars of Wisdom. I appreciate you and thanks a lot for sharing. Much continued future success.
I think that makes a lot of sense. It’s whatever makes you happy.
Those who say you're lazy for any reason or you need to work like a man are the ones where the most work they've ever done is climbing the basement stairs up to the frig and back down again. Best thing to do is just ignore them.
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! Agree 💯
As long as they are tidy and kept tidy.
be careful not to become over-reliant on youtube, the income is very sporadic and isn't necessarily reliable
Ego? Seems like a well articulated business decision. And on top of that I’m a Makita fan😂
