I rented one a couple of months ago and it was awesome, it handles beautifully!! I like manual transmissions but this one made me want to trade in my 2019 BMW 430i coupe 6 speed manual.
The previous F30 generation was a snooze-fest. This car retains the comfort while managing to give a bit better driving experience all-around, not to mention, way better in-car technology.

Hi Thomas, Your original videos on the G20 on release was what inspired me to save up and upgrade my vehicle. Thanks to you, I'm now a proud owner of a G20 that I've now had for 3 months
I've had the G20 330i (in Thomas Blue, of course 😉) for about a year now and absolutely no regrets. Superbly refined car, good mid-range punch, and handles so well especially in Sport mode. The steering feel thankfully doesn't bother me personally, but can see how it might annoy Thomas. Only gripe I have is the Bridgestone Turanza run flat tyres I got with the car which aren't great 🙄. Once they wear out I'll get some non-run flat Michelin PS4s, which I'm pretty sure will make the car that much better dynamically!
To appreciate how much larger this car is, consider that the G20 3 series now is almost identical in all dimensions to the E39 5 series of the late ‘90s (the most elegant 5 series in my opinion). We love the E39 and look forward to many great miles in the G20.
The more I see Thomas videos, the more I sense Thomas is so proud when translating English to German or vice versa. A proud citizen. Good job Thomas, free lecturing 😛
Since I got the G20 I'm very happy with everything this vehicle has to offer. Probably I didn't ride so many vehicles to understand why you don't like the steering. I remember my first time with the G20 and it was amazing. After I test drove Jaguar XE, Volvo S60 and Mercedes C, the 3-series felt so familiar to me and so easy to use/drive. I really could feel the road and the weight of the vehicle. I felt so confident and I knew exactly the limits of the car. If you are looking for a new car, just go ahead and do a test drive of the 3-series G20. I promise you will be amazed and you will fell in love with this great car.
I understand what the reviewer means with an "artificial" steering. I was literally shocked when I switched from the E46 to a contemporary BMW. On my F20 I can feel unpleasantly how the electric steering motor interacts with my steering wheel and there is no chance to feel the contact to the street compared to the E46, 18 inch zoll tires are the minimum to get a sharper steering and more dynamic. I appreciate the superior comfort of modern BMWs, but sometimes I miss very much the playfulness of older models.
I think Thomas was a little tired while filming this. Even so, the review is top notch, as usual! Do you know if the car was equipped with the variable sport steering option? Maybe that has something to do with the steering feeling. One of the things that I appreciate the most is that Thomas has the courage to voice perhaps unpopular opinions (for the manufacturers) and consumers end up with a fair view on the product. Really awesome!
Yet another great review from Thomas’s driving lounge! You answered several questions I had about the 3 series. It’s a shame they didn’t completely fix the steering, but it sounds like it’s a significant improvement over the F30. Good thing the fake exhaust police didn’t have to make an appearance in this one
Great video. Nice car, pricey, but I'd spec the adaptive suspension for the calm cruising comfort. Thank you for going to the trouble to re-arrange the front view camera position and the extra test runs, for the autobahn speed tests - typical Autogefuhl professionalism - and always a distinctive feature of your Reviews! Great driving and amusing commentary - for car enthusiasts, as always. Best wishes.
I just purchased a 330i, based largely on your awesome and detailed review! Mine is animal skin free 😁. The car is amazing. Thanks for all the hard work you guys put into these videos.
LIKE for the review as well as for this car even if it is not my favourite brand. The trunk is surprinsingly big, I do like also that with your 1.86m high you have enough space on the rear seat. Nice engine sound, nice propulsion, nice cockpit, nice interior, nice car. Good job BMW! Good job Thomas & team!
25:00 Steering responsiveness at low angles is probably dialed down so road bumps would not induce steering. Of course I cannot say how severe it is as I have not driven it, but from driving Seat Alhambra I can say I would appreciate such function. When I drive with the Seat over bumpy road the car bumps even more because of too sensitive / non refined steering.
Thanks Autogefühl. Have to agree with you on the low end steering looseness. Just bought a pre owned 2020 330i with 7500 miles and noticed it while driving home on the highway. But boy is it otherwise a nice car. My first BMW. Tschüß!
Great review. You advised against buying a car with just the MSport suspension as it’s stiff. I am looking at a 330i MSport now which says it has MSport Suspension. If this is not adaptive suspension, do you think it would be too firm and uncomfortable a ride? Thanks
Wow, the ground clearance at the front looks very high, almost like it has XDrive ( XDrive cars come with raised suspension to fit the front differential and transfer box)
Great review, great car. But finally which one is more recommended for daily use: BMW 3 or Audi a4? Both are excellent at your reviews, but that is the final verdict?
Nice review as always! Thomas; how do you compare the steering feeling with X2? I really like the wheel of X2 with its direct feeling, is it more numb at the centre or the same?
Hi Thomas, very informative video as usually. I really like your observations and insight. Regarding the steering feel: was this 3 series equipped with variable sport steering? Which one gives better, more analogue feel? Greetings from Poland
Thomas, as always you are simply the best. 👏🏼Which 3 series would you pick? The 30i version or the 30d? Would you go for a better equipped 30i or a more standard 30d, as the diesel version is a little bit more expensive (at least in my country)...
@autogefühl , hi Thomas, could it be that the lack of natural wheel response you mentioned was occurring due to variable steering (servotroic) option which this car may have? The definition to this option as far as i know is " reducing responsiveness of steering in order to avoid losing control in high speeds". So maybe it is about this?
I like and appreciate the several comparisons between three suspension types. These impressions are important. As for power from this 2 liter turbo - it is plenty power and acceleration, for me at least. I drove 2014 Volvo S60 with 250 horsepower and 0-60 of 6.3 sec. and in the suburbs of Massachusetts, I always had to take my foot of the pedal as I was reaching 45-50 mph very fast. Well, if this BMW does 5.3-5.5 seconds? I'm more than satisfied then.
Those aren't available in a lot of countries and in a lot of countries ( esp. Asian ) cars get tonnes of taxes to them if they are above a certain engine capacity/cyl. which makes a 6 cyl 3 series cost as much as good speced 5 series in say USA.
Model 3 owner here. Test drive G20 a couple times before decision. Really like the BMW digital cluster and suspension. RWD feel was great. Tesla powertrain and software sealed it, though. Electric thrust is just a different level for far less money than I could find for an M340i.
Could be a very good moment for German car manufacturers to sell cars with more standard equipment or cheaper package prices... Also a 5 year as standard. This would get sales moving and restore confidence in their products..
Thank you very good review. I am following your 3 series videos from begining and it is always best. My 330i was to be manufactured at this month, but because of full quota it was moved to November. This means, that it will be manufactured with Euro 6d norm (and not with Euro 6d-TEMP like car you are reviewing). I am quite afraid about engine attributes like gas pedal response, sound and so on. Do you have any info about these upcoming changes? If so, I will really appreciate if you let me know. Or possibly, if you will be reviewing 430i (whose powertrain is same as 3 series), if you keep an eye on this. Thank you!
What's your impression on the steering wheel leather ? The previous generation has "real" leather which holds up very well, up to now, in my 7 year old F30. The new steering wheel doesn't seem to have that textured leather anymore...
Great review .. i would have few questions if you find some time to answer them please: how does this 330i compare to 320d , does 330i feel faster and do they feel the same in lower rpm or diesel is more punchy? How comfortable are the seats( that should be Vernasca leather) and do you recommend maybe Alcantara ( plus Sensatec). At the end is the car worth extra money compared to 330i F30? Danke
Spending on stuff like the dash and galvanised switches are good idea, the tech is where we really should cut down since that stuff becomes obselete and non functioning.
I believe that car had the M-Sport rack did it not Thomas? Having driven the M-Sport steering (which is on some sport lines like your review car for some reason!) and the sport line steering, the latter is vastly more linear and has a much less vague dead zone. The variable M rack is just super super messed up on the newest BMWs and it actually led to me getting an early sport line G20 instead.
I know it’s expensive but the adaptive suspension is so good it is sort of a ‘must have’ these days - especially if the road quality is poor (UK...😔). I wonder if in the future it will become part of the standard spec...?
Oh really? Inside villages in Germany, speed limit is 50 km/h and you can chose your driving lane just as u wish. In Germany, we call this "freie Fahrstreifenwahl". Keeping right is for Autobahn.
Thomas how do compare with regards to handling/fun BMW 3 series vs Audi A4/A5, given Audi has sport suspension 1BE and quattro and BMW best possible option (adaptive?).
My Dravit Grey with Cognac interior 330i M Sport is a great car and my fourth 3 Series. I really think that this G20 3 Series will prove to be one of the classics. I don't quite understand your comments re the steering as I think it is fine and I find that the Adaptive Suspension is not really necessary as the standard suspension is so good. Various settings in Sports Suspension mode make for quite a different and thrilling driving experience though.
BMW stopped making manual ones for gas engines versions of the G20. Only the base diesels still come with manuals and apparently those are hard to come by.
Hi Thomas. How is the adaptive suspension in 330i comparing to an adaptive suspension in 5 series? Is the 5 series more compliant and forgiving ride, or they are about the same n terms of ride quality?
Hi, in the video you mentioned about optional soundproofing package but when I go to bmwusa website, I don't see it. Is it not available in the US or is it for 2021 models only?
@@hojnikb I know they did stick to it for the E39 generation, which is my favourite. It'd be nice if they at least tried to stick to it somewhat, 30i and 2 litre turbo just doesn't feel right.
@@mynt253 330i making in excess of 255HP is more than worth of the 30i badge. And no, BMW did not stick it for E39 either. 20i was also a 2.2l, 23i was 2.5, 40i was 4.4 Only diesels were consistent with their displacement->naming.
@@hojnikb I'm not arguing that their power isn't enough to warrant a 'fast badge', but rather that they're reducing this engine size naming scheme they used to mostly adhere to, to a trim badge. At least they weren't overselling their cars' engines back then, today the name suggests a larger engine.
¿How many driving modes can I select in this model? Three modes: "Eco", Confort and Sport, or Four modes, the same than before plus Sport +? Anyone knows?
I think the most one will be 320d, my friend had 2012 f30 318d with litterly 0 optipns, no cruise control no rear sensors, nothing but still it was a great car really nicly build
Hello there, I am currently "Reviewing"a 2020 330i xDrive as a loaner while my BMW is being serviced (tuned f10 n55). Straight the point. This is a stealthy machine for 4 cylinders. Its really fast and punchy in sport mode, beautiful B58 engine BMWs guy have made, and handles corners like a fucking go cart. its a fun car to have for daily driving. There are factory burbles already if you get m sport mufflers, its sounds amazing (and aggression). The interior is a beauty if you have full package. One down side the turbo lag from dead stop. if you are at light and and in all sport settings, you floor it, and nothing happens for almost 1 second. Very noticeable. I'm not sure if its software related mapping by BMW or just the turbo needs more efficient compressor wheel for the lower 1-2k rev range. (maybe electric assist in the future? i335e?) Otherwise beautiful daily car and i have N55 that is tuned to 400hp (crank) and this feels "lightweight fast" just like my car. If you drive the 330i normally and in eco mode, you will get very good range too. I tried on 93 octane.
@@nesttea2239 Diesel and gasoline cars pollute the air, and air pollution from cars are a big health problem, a lot of people get sick from it, especially in the citys. Besides that diesel/gasoline cars produce far more CO2 compaired to a 100% electric car. So I think politicians will favor electric more and more soon, to help prevent global warming and to improve peoples general health. Many countries have already set the date 2030 for banning sales of all gasoline/diesel cars. In Norway over half of all cars sold now are 100% electric and the parlament has decided, that already from 2025 all cars sold must be zero-emission (electric or hydrogen). In Denmark today we will get a proposal on how to get more 100% electric cars in the country, and they say it will probably be done by taxing the cars that pollute the most.
@@Jacob-uk4kl this statement is only true if electricity production is low in co2 emissions. If you live in Germany for example, power plants run on coal! So it is FAR WORSE to use electric cars there than petrol ones, regarding pollution.

I have the same question, with a price drop of about 50% for low kilometers cars, both models.
I was so surprised that it didn’t have a sunglass holder or CD player I thought that was funny but I love my car, feels like a smart car
Thanks for the feedback!
Problem is, at least here in the UK, to have the adaptive suspensions you have to tick a package that includes 19 inch wheels...
aww
Hi, for your viewers, would you recommend the sport over the msport for the fun, comfort, and all round practicality?
whichever you prefer BMW 3 series or 5 series with same powerline ( e.g. 320d vs 520d)
Was so confused for a minute during the side filming of the car. Was thinking this was the f30 generation until he came to the back.
Great review !!! Tks!!!!!!
Nice review, as always! I wish you tested BMW with manual transmission. Could you test Suzuki Vitara Hybrid (it's MT only)? Best wishes!
BMW stopped making manual ones for gas engines versions of the G20. Only the base diesels still come with manuals and apparently those are hard to come by.
Like the shorts. Better than Doug Demuro beige ones 😃🤣
I wish US variants were offered acoustic side glass.
Extra insulation package? Are we talking about the same car????
Thomas, I have the same model with M sport and I dont have the issue presented by you with no response from steering weheel at low degrees.
It is actually not about the wheel being loose, it's about absolute lack of feedback from steering near it's center position.
@@dgukov yeah
@@autogefuehlit feels like you have to steer through a small blokade, it's very annoying I can tell you that. I will have the dealer look at it....
Hi Thomas. How is the adaptive suspension in 330i comparing to an adaptive suspension in 5 series? Is the 5 series more compliant and forgiving ride, or they are about the same n terms of ride quality?
Yes.
Thank you. Just to clarify if i got it correctly: The 5 series adaptive suspension, is more comfortable than the 3 series adaptive suspension, right?
I have 330d M Performance Touring. Love it.
Hey Thomas, do you know what's the real fuel consumption like on the 330i?
sure, all in the review
@@autogefuehl Hmm I must've missed that. I guess I'll have to watch it again... Thanks!
What to buy... 330i or 330e if the 330e is approx 12500 eur cheaper in your country?
Hi, in the video you mentioned about optional soundproofing package but when I go to bmwusa website, I don't see it. Is it not available in the US or is it for 2021 models only?
Might depend on market specs what is included, whats option and whats available
I don't know why BMW tune their steering this way, I guess not enough people complain so they don't change it..
At 13:45 he is informed that this car has a 480 liter trunk. It is no wonder but it is a good boot.
They should stick to naming the cars after their engine sizes with all models.
They don't stick to that naming scheme from at least the 80s. And it's pointles now that a single turbo engine covers multiple power levels
20i was also a 2.2l, 23i was 2.5, 40i was 4.4
Only diesels were consistent with their displacement->naming.
I don't like the counter clockwise gauges.
¿How many driving modes can I select in this model? Three modes: "Eco", Confort and Sport, or Four modes, the same than before plus Sport +? Anyone knows?
What would you choose: standard steering or variable sport steering on 330i touring? And why?
Maybe Camry is better?
Sounds like a bit noisy when on high speed
Has the Touring version more space at the back?
I think the most one will be 320d, my friend had 2012 f30 318d with litterly 0 optipns, no cruise control no rear sensors, nothing but still it was a great car really nicly build
In Eastern Europe, yes.in other parts, gasoline 250+.
This is a beautiful car but I missed the shoulder line. Anyway, I like the way you review the vehicle and the points mentioned. Good job!
Thomas do you know more about low degree steering problem which yoh talked about at 25:10,because i Experience the same thing now with my bmw g20
it's a setup thing. They believe it is good that way but its not ...
Is there better steering input with the m sport trim?
Nice as always
(maybe electric assist in the future? i335e?)
Otherwise beautiful daily car and i have N55 that is tuned to 400hp (crank) and this feels "lightweight fast" just like my car. If you drive the 330i normally and in eco mode, you will get very good range too.
I tried on 93 octane.
Hi there, could you elaborate on the good fuel economy in eco? How many liters per 100km did you get with the 330i
Which will hold the value best if bought today, a diesel/gasoline car or a pure electric car? I'm guessing the electric will
Electric will probably drop in price the most as technology is advancing the most compared to combustion engines
My favourite compact executive
Not many will get this package. This is not basic 3 series. It’s Fully loaded..it will cost you as much as basic 340 or a basic 5 series.
I couldnt agree more wrt inductive charging Thomas, nice idea but poorly implemented by all manufacturers
VW, look at these steering wheel controls and take note. 👀📒
