  • One of the detectives brings a box of brownies from a "friend" of his. All the guys sample them several times and discover they have hash in them. The result is hilarious as it all unfolds.

      Spending 20+ years as a jail guard and a prison officer I guarantee you this is more accurate . Like the time the jail commander sent me and my co-worker out to burn some evidence ( pot ) . lol After we were done we ate a whole bag of licorice .

    Not only a classic episode of Barney Miller, but a classic episode in the history of all TV sitcoms.
    This show had a fantastic ensemble cast, with characters -and actors- who complimented each other so very well. I miss TV shows like this; Barney Miller, WKRP In Cincinnati, Taxi, Mary Tyler Moore, M*A*S*H*...
    It was a wonderful time for television comedy.

    Nick had a nice singing voice. Fun fact: The actor who played Nick, Jack Soo, was in the movie version of the Rogers and Hammerstein musical, Flower Drum Song. It was one of the first American movies that featured an all Asian cast;
    sort of a proto-Crazy Ritch Asians. I remember him singing in a duet called 'Sunday, Sweet Sunday' with his love interest, a showgirl played by this gorgeous Asian-American actress by the name of Nancy Kwan.

      Everything in this scene was perfect! Not over acted or over articulated.
      Today's version there would've been another sober character asking too many questions.

    Someone took a poll of the NYPD years back to find out what NYC police felt was the most realistic police show on television. "Barney Miller" won. The feeling was that the manner in which the drudgery of daily police work was portrayed as well as the shabby working environment, the stupidity of NYPD upper brass and the crazy people who would walk in was the most accurate.

Abe, Jack, Tim and Hal a great combination that even when scripts were weak their diversity and humorous interjections made them work. We'll always remember Wojo, Fish, Barney, Harris and Yemana. Whether Florence or George, Archie and Edith, Chico and the Man, Al Bundy's disfunctionals, the time of class TV entertainment has past.

    CLASSIC...........................Reminds me of Taxi...when guy was given to the answer, to the driving test...do slow...So he aske's the question again ..go slow...so he says S L O W..

      Wow. That scene from Taxi ran through my mind as well. Go figure, since Yamana asking if anyone saw his legs and Rev. Jim asking what a yellow light means were the rare times where I actually belly-laughed from a sitcom.
