Just rediscovered these. I'd forgotten just how good and innovative (and funny) Barney Miller was. Not many other shows of the time would tackle social issues with such a sense of compassion and humour. The writing was fabulous and the delivery perfect.

These shows from the 70's could never be made today. They tried remaking Starsky and Hutch which turned into a flop.
Wojo is such a meathead. He's the least educated, most militant and abusive of them. I think he was put there for exposition, to explain the limited views of law enforcement officers and to bring attention to the low minded ignorance of cops.
The rest seem to rise above the dirt but he just wallows in it.
Those are the worst fake karate moves I've ever seen. Also why would you be chewing gum when you're practicing karate?
The Polish is terrible!
