Great video.. what you use on the repair area to get it repaired ?
what kind of electric heater you are using what wattage and voltage thanks great video
My garage is too small and full so I'm thinking about using one of those pop up 10 foot square pavilions and covering it with plastic and painting the front then the back. I am thinking to paint it to the back of the front doors then the back doors and the hatchback. Hopefully not too much dust gets in. I did my wife's 2020 corolla bumper last year after she backed into a tree so hopefully a whole car won't be too much. It's an old Focus so it's not valuable, lol.
Sounds like a solid plan to me. Keep me posted on the result. If you shae some photos to my email garagenoise247@gmail.com I may share it withe the community to inspire other.
How to masking gap the fender and door? If no protection that gaps eventually paint will over spray to inside and messing up
Excellent job Chris. Im starting the bodywork on my 04 GMC and stripping it down to primer substrate or metal. Is it best to use a 2K epoxy then a high build for the blocking. Im learning a lot from you. Thank you
If your going down to bare metal on the truck than yes 2k epoxy primer.
What about for masking behind the fender and where the door meet?
Thats always tricky, somtimes I'll insert foam tape or get on the backside of the fender with 2 inch tape
Well explained specially about coverage now I have a quistion for you let's say I brought some base coat neat and it's a 50/50 mix and I wanted better coverage could I mix 65/base coat neat and the other 35/ 2k base coat thinners would that be ok? Thank you for the video alway injoy your videos stay safe
Yes but your dry time would be slower . I wouldn't do any more than that tho.
I like the video is help full what if I spray base coat is not perfect is ok to sander before put clear top coat?
Yes, but if you sand basecoat you need to put another coat of base coat before clear.
Great so always 600 to prep old paint for new clear? Can you do 800-1000 or will it peel? I noticed when you scuff up the old paint it wasn't always flat and there were some shiny spots and you can see scratches. When you reclear it will fill all those sand scratches and imperfections 100%? Or will you still see some sand scratches or fine streaks in the sun?
Not sure about what you see in the video but you don't want any shiny spots. 800-1000 is fine as well. You won't see any scratches under clear with 600 or 800-1000. Appreciate your comment brother!
Good video. I used spray cans and I got a different color. What can I do to math the paint?
If it's a close match you could blend into adjacent panels
So you don’t use any blending clear when you color blend ? Does that leave a nice transition without overspray?
I do use color blender, I have several videos on that topic ,but I don't always use it depends on the color and temperature. Appreciate your comment and the support!
Nice work. i would like to know how do you prevent dust nips due to ure spraying in a garage area with out spray booth?
There's no way to totally prevent dust or trash in the paint even in a booth you get some trash. There are a few things to do , blow the car off really well . All body gap near where yor painting, wherever dirt can hide. Blow yourself off ,wet floor down. Make sure you have clean/dry air to paint with. Hope this helps
@@GarageNoise thanks for the reply. Keeping a consistent clean job is hard 😅 its part of painting routine i believe
How do you keep from getting dirt in the paint? It looks like your shop looks like mine, no paint booth. I always end up with trash and dirt in mine.
Most trash comes from you or the vehicle. I blow off the vehicle real well before masking. All jamb and seams get blown out, anywhere dirt might hide. I try to blow it off outside. I also make sure its masked well so no trash is able to blow out of a gap. I do get some trash but you get some in a booth as well. You could also wet down the floor. Hope this helps thank's for watching and being part of the channel!
Blow yourself off well too. Trash can come off your closes. I paint out on the floor also and my buddy has a booth at his shop and always complains my jobs come out cleaner than his. My theory is in a open shop as this there’s a lot less air movement or draw across the vehicle as opposed to a booth which are typically 30’x14’ or so and the exhaust fan draws a huge amount of air from outside the booth into a comparably small square box. Even though the booth has filters, it’s still not 100% filtering all dust. So theoretically you’re drawing all the air from inside the shop across your paint. If this makes sense? It’s the best way I know how to explain it.
Can I apply Nason base coat paint and Clear over rustoleum filler primer
A 1k primer? Technically no, it could have a bad reaction to the primer and wrinkle.
Chris what is the part number , brand and filters for the respirator you used in this video. Also can slow reducer be used in 70-80 degree when painting silver metallic paint.
Here is a link to the mask I used. Works really well.
amzn.to/3rhB3V5
As far as the reducer yes you can use slow in that situation. It's always better to use a slower reducer for the temp your spraying in.
I do plan on uprgrading filters to 3m.
Chris, what happens if the flued setting is set to full or wide open when spraying clear coat?
You can spay with it wide open most painters do. More clear coat will be applied so you want o spray a bit quicker.
Exactly! You’re right Chris most painters do that way, but they need to a bit quicker because it creates sagging or running clear coat.
Those 3M guns are nice. Wonder if they come as a set? For primer, clear or paint. Is there a faster way to sand an old car than using a DA? Takes awhile, lol.
Also how did those chips happen?
DA takes to long in old cars you better get a dewalt DWE6401DS disc sander + replace 5" for 6" backing pad +soft pad and sand the car with 180 these dewalt tool is very powerful you are going to thank me latter is what i use in old classic cars.
@@fernandosaldana3665 Awesome, thank you. Disc sander? I went down to 80 grit and still takes awhile on the DA.
@@bobbydelamar606 try that tool is not even $100 but blow out the paint like nothing
I would say be careful using a grinder you don't want to heat up the panel you could warp it! I would stick with a orbital an use 36 grit paper.
Few weeks after painting the paint on the car start swollen, what's the cause. Thank you
Not sure what your issue is . Not familiar with swelling paint. Can you explain a bit more?
Followed the steps to paint the car alright but few weeks after painting I realised that the there are several places around the car swollen up,I mean the paint on the car, when I used a pin to check I realised it was a paint that has swollen
No way shops take this much time. They do a quick filler and primer and blend spray. Overspray and dust everywhere.
What is a drop coat ? What is a medium coat ?
Good question, is a final coat on the blend area to help the orientation of metallics and the blend . One coat about 6-10 inches away from panel. Sometimes called an orientation coat.
@@GarageNoise sprayed at same gun settings and hand speed just moved back off the panel ?
@@EChunter yes , just one coat only if needed .cause multiple coat can cause sand piling which will make paint rough
@@GarageNoise thanks. Information is appreciated.
