A designer could always rely on Iman, as she sold their clothes like no one else. She didn't have to be over the top of the runaway, her presence was just enough 👑❤
I thought the same thing. Linda did not stand out in the show. Perhaps she was stalking the catwalk to gauge the competition. Paulina and Iman were sublime. Veronica Webb had presence too as did Marpessa, Anna Bayale, and Dalma Callado. I believe Dalma was at the top of the heap at the time. I thought Paulina was amazing!!!! And still is by the way!!! Josie Borain was pretty impressive too, reminds me of 90's model Stella Tennant.
Models during this era walk gracefully... gliding over the runway... Such beautiful supermodels. Nowadays model walk is fierce or bubbly... really different. IMAN, ANNA BAYLE and DALMA were the best walkers.
And Moreover, unlike the today's Models, They Smiled like they were having Good Times! WE MISS THE 80'S VERY MUCH, when FASHION WAS GREAT AND PACKED WITH CREATIVITY!
Young Linda Young Veronica Webb Simon Le Bon’s (Duran,Duran) wife Yasmine. I think most of the members of Duran, Duran married models back in the 1980’s. Right at the height of their popularity they all got married except for one, maybe. So now I get it, the women of the 1980’s had a slow graceful twitch and moved almost like ballerinas. The women of the catwalk of the 1990’s had a quick fast flirty sway in their movement. Who is the other African American women with the short fro on the runway?!! IMAN is giving it to these girls, 🍯!!
my mother at 0:22 she enjoyed Gianni Versace more of course . Calvin is and was toooooo simple for my mother. She ended her career as a fashion model and starting designing for Gianni- thats how much my mom meant to Gianni. RIP Gianni. Iman is still a close friend to my mother. She even attended Iman's wedding in Florence. Its shocking to learn through experience how the modelling industry has changed-there was much more of a certain love between models and designers back then. I have only walked the runway 8 times in total, but ive learnt that through what my mother went through as a fashion model to what it is now-carayyyyyyy
I noticed the legendary Iman! She was super attractive, her other asset is the long and lean East African physique! She is the most famous Somalian in the world! She married a NBA player and then divorced him. David Bowie was her most recent husband!
I remember this collection very well. Calvin Klein appeared on the Phil Donohue talk show and presented it with all of these models. I remember he was very proud of the group of nautical striped sweaters at 7:03. He said they were silk, made in France and so expensive he wouldn't reveal the price! This was a very crucial collection in the company's history. At this time, Klein began an exclusive collection for Bergdorf Goodman. He said the off the shoulder dresses in red and black were in the store window. These clothes have a very sophisticated look. The fabrics are beautiful and the cuts have a perfect ampleness. It's all very 30s and 40s in inspiration but without being derivative from those eras. I think the company started to lose its way in the 90s, which is ironic since that's when Klein's minimalist esthetic was most mainstream. The clothes did not seem as luxurious by this time. By 2002 he had lost interest and sold the company.
@@90sfashion29 Well, I had it on VHS and watched it a lot in those days. I remember Calvin said the off-the-shoulder dress Josie wears at 3:22 was wool and cost $800. He also shocked the audience by saying the collection very intentionally did not feature big shoulder pads, which now seems funny because some of the coats and jackets do have shoulder pads that seem big by today's standards. But shoulders from 1983-86 were enormously big. They slowly retreated beginning in 1987 and were gone by around 1991.
Not Gurmit, it's Anna Bayle. Some of the other models are: Dalma Callado, Daniela Ghione, Francesca, Dianne De Witt, and Margaret Donohoe. Beautiful clothes, still wearable today.
@cornelius washington I just thought it wasn’t her, were we all know that the two women with colors who were famous supermodels at that time was her and Iman and i confirmed it was her after checking out some of the photos. I was just So sad that she already left us in this world to join our creator back in 2008. 😢
The interesting thing about Calvin's collections is that the clothes were so basic. Extremely basic. It's just a suit, a trouser pant, a short skirt, a blouse, a halter top, a cardigan, a belt, a dress and some gloves. Nothing inventive or jaw-dropping. You could almost buy the same look at lower-price clothing stores for a fraction of the cost. It's a look that's very easy to imitate with clothes from a lower-priced store. I wonder if minimalism - which CK was known for - is one of the reasons his collection disappeared. There's only so much you can do with so little to work with, over the course of several decades. I don't think Raf Simons was the right choice either. This collection is very wearable and stylized, but for today's market, there needs to be a bit more oomph. I hope the Calvin Klein collection comes back after Covid-19 is gone and businesses bounce back.
I beg to differ. There is a definite market for expensive, simple clothing. I think it’s to Klein’s credit that these clothes are simple so that they could be worn by almost any woman at any stage of her life or career. The Row has made a name for itself without resorting to stunts in terms of color, pattern, or marketing. Ralph Lauren is as classic in his styling for both men and women as was Calvin Klein. No great degrees of oomph. Just exquisite tailoring, materials, and marketing. Yes, the Gap and Banana Republic do the same items of clothing, but not everyone wants to shop at the Gap.
Thanks so much for posting this! Back in the days when designers showed REAL clothes (not circus freaks to get maximum Instagram likes from people who just want cheap, silly novelty) and models could actually SHOW those clothes, and knew how to walk (more like effortlessly GLIDE) down the runway. Loved when those short full skirts came out... I remember Dalma's red-skirted version was EVERYWHERE in the magazines that season... she really knew how to work it. She looked just like all the wonderful illustrations I saw of it in all the fashion reports. All these fabulous angles! And I loved how Paulina and Iman looked like they were having fun! I know some viewers will think this is boring and bland, but this was a different time when the shows were for fashion professionals only, and not for the novelty hungry general public. Every designer had their own style and the audience appreciated that.
Our girl from the Philippines, Anna Bayle. With the best super models during that period. The preferred models then are not only very beautiful but very good walkers. Unlike today.
I’m a simple person, I see Iman, I click.
Amen!
Same

I don't click for the reason of the same skin color. I click because it inspires me...
Iman is the best!

oh please, they all sold it quite nicely.
@cornelius washington Personally, Dalma is way better.
@@timothychung4811 No, Iman is a queen and will always be.

The Anna Bayle supremacy
the little black dress made her debut....Timeless
The little black dress was invented by Coco Chanel more than 60 years ago in the 1920's! It was out for awhile.

Look at the way these models walked, it’s boring to watch
It's not a Mugler, Versace or Gaultier show. Calvin Kelin's clothes are clean and simple so the walk has to reflect that.
What a snore of a collection.
Was that Andy Warhol in the crowd?
