    The other thing I always noticed about Carolyn was the fact that she rarely wore jewellery. Maybe her wedding ring and a watch. Even in the evenings she wore minimal jewellery. Also, her blonded hair was a huge statement - her hair was the part of her appearance that stood out the most.

      Yes, bleached every three weeks and very high maintenance. In fact, it said that her high maintenance lifestyle may have been part of the cause of the plane wreck because they had to leave after dark because she was late at the beauty salon.

    Since I got to know the story of Carolyn Bessette and her husband John F. Kennedy Jr, soon caught my attention her unique style, class and stunning beauty in photos and videos about her life. I was very in awe of her and chic understated behavior that was her essence. In fact she was a rare american lady. Thank you girls for talking about this timeless fashion icon. ✨🇧🇷

    I came into my own style in the 90s as well. Gotta say, my go to favorite color to wear is black. Love black and white together, adore tan and black. Grey, too. Solid colors, very few prints. Never realized till now I'm emulating the beautiful Carolyn Bissette. She sure was elegant and classy.

    Wonderful video ladies. If you are interested in Carolyn, I would highly recommend reading "The Other Man" by Michael Bergin, "What Remains" by Carole Radziwell, and "Fairytale Interrupted" by Rosemarie Terenzio.
    I am about 7 years younger than Carolyn, and many of us were dressing minimalist by the end of the 90s, but nobody did it better than Carolyn. The thing to remember about Carolyn, is that she wore what she wanted... it could be off a street vendor, from Hermes, or from an unknown designer. She loved clothes, and she had an instinct to what looked good, and what men liked. And of course as she became better known, she could make a designer just by wearing them once, and she became extremely cognizant of that. She was a girls-girl, known to be friendly to other young women, and help them with their own style. She was known to be kind, and she displayed a great deal of confidence, though, if you watch her physical transformation after she got together with John and became the target of the paparazzi, you can see that her own insecurities also began to surface. Because she herself had worked in PR, the last people she wanted to be around her was the press. She was used to being incredibly protective of her client (Calvin Klein) regarding the press. This led to the public seeing her as elusive, stuck up etc. And of course so many catty remarks were made that she was not good enough for John.
    Regarding Sex and the City...you are bound to see reflections of Carolyn in the show, Candace Bushnell ran in some of the same circles (again...read "The Other Man"!) and her New York was Carolyn's New York.
    While that New York is long gone, shades of Carolyn remain. You guys did fantastic with your outfits, and don't forget that Carolyn looked great no matter what she wore, it was how she carried herself. The legacy she left can leave us all with that confidence to emulate, and I think, given her history, she would love to know she is an inspiration to young women, even today.

    I love her style since I was a 90's kid. Recently, I was researching her and I found pictures of her wearing colors (red, orange, green, and even yellow!) and patterns. I think her minimal style was really connected to her social/work life in NYC but in her private life, there were some colors involved. I like that she mixed the same pieces, she was a fan of pairing the same blouse/shirt with different skirts, I think now a days she would still mix vintage pieces to her low/hight couture looks.

    Another connection to 'SATC' was Sarah Jessica and Jon Jon were an item at one point. I never made the correlation, and wasn't Mr.Big's name John? Makes so much sense since SJP was a producer of the show. Guess he was the one that got away.

    • @KateKay28
      @KateKay28 3 года назад +1

      Good video. Carrie’s SATC character is based, in the early days, heavily on the author of the SATC book and column, Candace Bushnell (even to the CB initials for the character and Carrie’ curly, wild hair and style). Candace dated a Mr. Big in real life and Carrie’s relationship with her Mr. Big was completely based on Candace’s real life experiences, just as Carrie did in S5 when she wrote her own book. The characters of Carrie and Natasha were very typical New York girls, just as Carolyn was before she married John. CBK absolutely was something special - you’re right about that! Great quality video and effort!

    Diana's wedding dress was a trend in the 1980s, not the 1990s. In the '90s, women wore satin nightgowns as dresses. Carrie's style from the series, on the other hand, is contemporary Rococo and has nothing to do with CBK's minimalism. Maybe Kate Moss style is close to CBK.

  • @queen-estherobasi4086
    @queen-estherobasi4086 2 года назад +3

    The comparison between Diana and Carolyn is a tad bit far fetched. Diana got married in 1981 while Carolyn got married 1996, 15 yrs difference so obviously wedding gowns evolved. Carolyn didn't start the slip dress the media just used her wedding as exposure.
